Lady Mary from Downton Abbey. Never watched the show but I know of it.

Thanks

I'm hoping it'll be far enough in the future that my character will be a featureless ovoid of glowing energy

You mean like Miraluka , Echani and other near human species in Star Wars?

Which presumably all descend from the same primordial species.

I mean all the erm parts hook up correctly, children can be born if dalliances occur.

That needs to be addressed more often, tbh. And the Duros and Nemoidians.

So if racism is bad, is speciesism also bad?

Mass effect is set just a fee centuries ahead of now. Even if all humans imidiately entered into interracial relationships with intent of reproduction you wouldnt achieve single human race. That would take thousands of years. And even then it is doubtful

and I think the bunk science behind it has already been suitably addressed, so I won't re-shitpost on it at length. Phenotypes obviously didn't dissapear between the 1840s and 2010s, so I wouldn't expect them to dissapear between the 2010s and 2180s (or ever, given that AFAIK humans still live in varied environments).

Pretty good BSN thread, tho. I give it 8/10. Plenty of stupid but not enough creepy.

as an aside, I love the other bit on weakened immune systems in that article, tho. I'd be all for the humans evolving with their technology to envirosuit Master Race status much like the quarians.

Envirosuits have huge advantages: You never have to worry about what to wear. Doing laundry? Never again! Forgot your umbrella? Doesn't matter, you're protected!

Seriously... why aren't we wearing the suits already?

Eh it won't in this new canon, but in the old canon there were several half breeds born between humans and etc.

I mean if I recall correctly Darth Caedus aka Jacen Solo had a Hapian lover and had a daughter with her.

Yeah, but Hapians are human. It's not a different species, just a different society. Former space pirates actually.

Their genetic baseline is different from the standard stock human, same as Echani, Chiss and Zeltrons.

There are sufficiently alien both in DNA and culture to the galaxy at large to not classify as humans.

Well, BS science again. The only difference between them and "standard" humans is that they are more beautiful. Meh, not worth discussing. Star Wars in generally is stupid, despite being awesome.

This would never happen because evolution doesn't work that way especially since we have recessive traits. Evolution favors diversity (so long as they can remain in the current environment). If there is no diversity among our DNA there is no evolution. So if let's say the environment of a bird changed drastically and favored birds with big beaks if there is no birds with this gene hiding in its DNA then the species will likely die out. If there is no diversity evolution cannot act upon it. Beyond that do you know how many genes are involved in just skin color alone? This is why you have such a wide variety of skin color now. All of these genes would have to literally be in one combination or only a few. Crossing over would have to be eliminated.

The only way this could happen is if the majority I mean 99% of the human population was gone. Then maybe then you would see it, but it would be because of a massive event. Not because of evolution itself. Bottlenecking and the founder effect. Things like that. Recessive traits can hide in a generational line for years before they are expressed. I mean it would need to be a very drastic event and even if that happened because we are sexual reproducing it isn't very likely. Amish even though they have the founder effect due to small numbers still have never gotten to the point where they all look alike. Humans will always be genetically diverse unless we just stop reproducing all together.

As someone who studies biology and is looking to be a biologist I hate this article. The author has no idea what evolution is or does. Removing your body hair does not mean your genetic code will change. That's not how evolution works. You already have to have hairless body in your DNA for evolution to act upon it. UGHHHHHH. Evolution can ONLY act when you have genetic diversity that's already present. We all are born with body hair. This is not going to happen.

I am a biologist, and I disagree with you (In a sense, much of what you said was entirely correct). The OP, as far as I understood the position, was not opining that we should become so phenotypically homogenous that individual differences are effectively stamped out - instead, simply that racial differences become homogenized with excessive interbreeding of previously separated populations.

This, in a very general sense, absolute does occur and would be expected to. But as I pointed out in a previous post, in a far flung future where a human population so thoroughly reproduces without discrimination between appearances, you would still have variation in phenotypic characterizations like skin tone - because they are continuous, exhibiting a Gaussian distribution in a population. Just like height, or weight. And in a population of billions, this effect would be maximized - there would still be major variations in skin tone, but the distribution would be altered. No longer would there be large populations of people with a given skin color, but instead one large population with an average range of skin colors and smaller portions of the population on each end of the distribution, representative of previously common skin colors.

But you are correct in the sense that to have a more absolute homogeneity, a massive population bottleneck would have to occur. But in the general sense, the overall idea of what the OP was talking about would be expected to occur. But this would a) take an extremely long time, probably tens of thousands of years and b ) would probably require that we never leave Earth, as any isolated population due to space travel would phenotypically diverge with time.

At first I read this as facial features and I was like "Oh hell no, you'll take my beard when you pry it off my cold dead face".

Now I really just want them to let me have epic beards.

Those can be pretty tough to handle. I have a friend who dealt with a stalker that sent him nonstop texts and email messages for over half a year, and she wouldn't stop no matter how much he ignored her.
