The teaser trailer showed us an armoured individual with jump jets.  The design seems to indicate some form of platform jumping is required.  Why else have them? Here are some of my speculations:

Combat

Maps (some or all) will have platforms (ie: scaffolding, floors ) and jumping to/from will be part of the new combat mechanics (see Halo).  Now the level(s) can be designed for actual combat or to get from Point A to B. Either way, DA:I's AI  controlling the squad had path finding problems (see cave in the Hinterlands). Will we see similar issues? Also, I expect this to be included in MP combat ( didn't Bio allude to some "new" regarding combat?)

Exploration

I doubt the Mako has jump capabilities. So, it's a "flat runner" and we must exit the vehicle and explore on foot.  Since the armour(s) has jump jets, I expect the maps to require their use. So, exploring hidden or hard to reach areas will require this ability, which may be a leveling option. I see Remnant Outposts, caves and hidden labs to be designed with platform exploration in mind.

The 64K dollar question is how often will we be jumping?

Any comments?

I like jumping. One of the first things I did after starting DAI was to jump everywhere (of course I stopped after a while). It also means no more "make huge detour because there's a stick blocking your way". It has potential. Really. It can add both to combat and exploration.

What I'm afraid of is... It might be there just for 'jump quests'. If done right and not overused, they might be fun. But there are also shards.

I still found pathfinding difficult in parts of DAI. Storm Coast being one of the worst cases. The slope looked the same angle as others I was able to walk, but nope. And it was hard to read the map to tell where the "paths" were, especially if they loop under each other so it looks like I've explored the area but I've actually only explored the path below or above it. I don't want more Forbidden Oasis mazes.

I'm all for jumping as well. I hate it when I have to go detours just to straight ahead somewhere close but just because a rock or another stupid little item is blocking the path, that I have to go alllllll around it lol.

...why? Did the addition of jumping in DAI make that game a platformer?

I think we'll be able to jump this time. I think Shepard was just uncapable to jump for fear of broken shins, or something.

Maybe it will be a 2D side scroller.

I think a more important question is whether or not biotic charge can be used mid-jump, sort of like the Death From Above Striker ability in Destiny.

As long as the jumping/platform segments aren't as annoying as some in Inquisition. (Cue horror flashbacks to shard in Lady Shayna's Valley in Hinterlands).

Who knows?  *shrug*  Guess we'll just have to wait and see.  I expect though, that it will have a cooldown timer that's tied in with our weight (like in ME3 with our powers) as well as our powers also being on that cooldown timer being affected by certain mods on the weaponry.

Ya know, if you go in heavy...   Expect to be there a while.  Because why else would you go in heavy unless you were ready to fight?
