From Eurogamer.net :

An EA marketing survey detailing Mass Effect: Andromeda has leaked online.

"Mass Effect: Andromeda takes players to the Andromeda galaxy, far beyond the Milky Way, where players will lead the fight for a new home in hostile territory - where WE are the aliens - opposed by a deadly indigenous race bent on stopping us.

"Experience the freedom to traverse and explore a planet-dense but seamless open-world galaxy, rich with discovery. Play as the leader of a squad of military-trained experts in an intense third-person shooter, with deep progression and customisation systems.

"This is the story of humanity's next chapter, and player choices throughout the game will ultimately determine our survival in the Andromeda galaxy."

"There is a major battle brewing, and it awaits you. It is unfolding across a galaxy of planets, with creatures and species entirely unknown. Draw your weapon, because the fight is bigger than you thought. It's not just for your own life, it's for all humanity - the ultimate battle for a place we can all call home."

So... most of this information has already been confirmed, but we still can get a clearer image of what the game's premise is going to be.

far beyond the Milky Way

By all means, rub it in.

Well, it's marketing. I was exepting them to clearly express the separation with the Milky Way, as well as the focus on humanity.

I think that's the first confirmation that the protagonist and the crew have a military background. It was a fairly safe assumption before given some of the concept art and the trailer, but none of the previous leaks or Bioware's statements mentioned the character's background.

OK:

It's taking place in the Andromeda galaxy.

That's a whole galaxy, just like the Milky Way and it's like 2.5 million light years away and we know little about it.

2.5 million light years is like it takes you that long if you travel at the speed of light. You could maybe go faster, but few people know how and the Reapers probably et them.

Once you're there there is probably no going back. But to ease our pain I'm sure there will be Andromedan Romance options.

I was just reading this on the presse !

It seems we will have difficult choices to do, I think making us the "bad guy" is pretty cool (and very logical, Andromeda is not our home) but as a person who play mainly Paragon, I hope I won't be forced to do very ugly things to the new species. As I was thinking since the start, it seems the aliens from Andromeda will just try to protect their home from us, colonists.

BioWare, please, do something great with the choices and if possible propose us a large range of answers to deal with hard situations, that's all I ask. Thanks.

I don't think Arcian's concerns are about romances.

@Scarlett-Aimpyh: While our goal is colonization, it doesn't mean we're necessarily being 'invaders' meaning we aggressively take planets from aliens. It could be that the aliens (who might be more advanced then us) will try to wipe us out.

My preference would be something on the middle of those two extremes.

I like the sound of "...deep progression and customisation systems...".

Assuming of course that this is more than just empty marketing lingo.

Soo, if it's a survey what were the questions?

where players will lead the fight for a new home in hostile territory - where WE are the aliens - opposed by a deadly indigenous race bent on stopping us

Sounds way better than initial "build a home for mah humanity". But they can't stop putting "humanity" in every other sentence anyway.

with deep progression and customisation systems

They keep using this word every time they mention any customization, but we'll see.

No marketing lingo is empty. They always contain a grain of court-proof truth. It just means we will have romance (deep progression) and at least 2 hair styles (one male - one female) to choose from.

I'm hoping against hope that it'll be a more diverse conflict than that because otherwise it seems like a case of protagonist-centered morality and I would hate that.

"Experience the freedom to traverse and explore a planet-dense but seamless open-world galaxy, rich with discovery. Play as the leader of a squad of military-trained experts in an intense third-person shooter, with deep progression and customisation systems.

Fok. Can we at least not be some special specialist of the most specialist of special ranks from the beginning or early in the game? This is especially since it becomes an Informed Attribute given how the protagonists tends to start out mechanically in terms of levels and skills. Can we earn our rank over time? Until confirmed otherwise, I'm seeing it as being militarily-trained as experts in parachuting.

"This is the story of humanity's next chapter, and player choices throughout the game will ultimately determine our survival in the Andromeda galaxy."

That was to be expected, I suppose.

Draw your weapon, because the fight is bigger than you thought. It's not just for your own life, it's for all humanity - the ultimate battle for a place we can all call home."

So are there aliens from the Milky Way or is it just humanity? Because if it is the latter then I'll be disappointed in the first degree. I doubt they've ditched the aliens but if they did do that, that just seems like a step back even in terms of humanity's advancement.

It seems like most speculation was right for better or worse.

Considering nature of Ark Project, I'd expect everyone selected for Ark to be worthy. Military specialists, science specialists, janitor specialists and so on. Everyone is special.

All humanity is the odd part, is individual species leaving the MW altogether or is the assumption nothing can or has survived in the MW?

So why wouldn't the native species to Andromeda be hostile to a species from the Milky Way invading their territory?

What gives humanity the right to set up a new homeworld there? And then, if successful, expand?

Manifest Destiny?

We would be upset at some invading "not from our galaxy" species.

Why not those from Andromeda?

Because an entire galaxy is a huge space and is not equivalent to your backyard, and while I understand the logic of reasonable rights on stars that are

close to your home planet, if someone goes and settles a an empty unclaimed ball of rock somewhere, that seems to me like a reasonable non-hostile action.

I was just thinking that, that it's not humanity centric and we are in fact the bad guys treading on their turf sounds great.   I hope it pans out tbh.

I'm was worrying it'd be a bit desolate but discovering a 'deadly indigenous race bent on stopping us'....oooh that sounds so good.  Can I just wish away the next year and be there already?

Stop stop stop getting excited for the game girl, it'll end badly.

I'm not liking the emphasis on humanity.  It sounds like the "humans are super special, so much more special than all the other advanced species" nonsense is rearing its ugly head once again.

But if humanity starts trying to settle on inhabited planets...

I can hear the presidential campaign already.

"We're gonna build a blockade around the Mass Relay. It'll be a great blockade. And the humans are gonna pay for it."

So we're the Reapers.

I find the premise interesting, fight for territory and survival by attacking the local population.

Loads of room for 'grey' storylines.

I hope BioWare can pull it off.
