I'm honestly treating MEA as a new franchise with many similar aspects to the ME trilogy. I don't see it as ME4 or anything. So regardless of what the game turns out to be, I'm not going to try to consider it a continuation of the story. That story has ended and this is a new one, inspired by the foundation set by the trilogy.

They did say a long while back, I believe, that they did not want people to think of it as Mass Effect 4. I think they suggested Mass Effect: Next as the name fans could use for it until they could release the actual name.

If so, they did try to discourage people from thinking of it as a continuation of the trilogy story rather than as a continuation of the Mass Effect universe.

I can't wait to give the Sovereign speech via a hologram to some snotty little inferior race we are about to conquer and whose world humanity is about to take over.  Mwa ha ha !

I don't think we're going to take over the Andromeda galaxy...... I think we're just looking for a planet to call home!

We're not the reapers, we're just puny humans who need a place to sleep.

We will start out with one planet but being the pushy impatient race we have showed in previous games one planet will not be enough, I need another full planet just to house all my consumables and mined items from planet scanning.

Parsing a possible future version of Mass Effect

It's amusing that Marketing's Doctrine is to pack as many adverbs as possible into a short sentence as can be managed. It leads to nonsense like "a galaxy of planets", "planet-dense but seamless open-world galaxy, rich with discovery".

From the Survey Item List:

1. -Immersion. --Bio wants to know if this is important to players. Future VR games?

2. -Cinematic quality.  --No question that in 2020-22 the graphics will be superior to today's. Implies more mocap and avoids FemShep famous open legs posture?

3. -Right amount of challenge. --Hm.. this is really subjective and not quantifiable.

4. -Gameplay keep my attention. --Is the studio concerned  about this aspect based on recent published games?

5. -Deep system for char. growth.  --Bio's strength. They want to see if romance is still in demand? More team member interactions? Loyalty quests to flesh out each character? Leveling up the chars' skills and attributes? gear upgrades?

6. -Variety of activities. Guess what? --Quests and missions and sonar pings?. Internal game(s)? To be expected.

6. -Explorer. --The studio wants to pursue this venue or extract player interest?

7. -Easy for non-ME players. Pursuant to EA policy. Dumbing down the game even further? Better menu navigation? Refers to combat mechanics? No gear upgrades, default armour and  picking up weapons from the battlefield as in Halo?

8. -Feel like a hero. Hm... Does Bio's metrics suggest that a Hero is better than a Villain?

9. -Right amount of combat.  Subjective. However, it does suggest that story telling and combat balance is important

10. -Space to explore. Hm.. again with the exploration theme... Does the plot premise point to exploration as key to winning or easy on the development pocket book?

The survey items suggest probable paths to future games. Bio is looking for game ideas and player interest. Major battles spanning across a "galaxy of planets" ( a very stupid way of describing war across the Helius cluster or even across neighbouring ones) send Reaper shivers down my spine.  The description is quite interesting. It gives the writers lots of room to create many adventures and characters, as long as the Reapers+Star Brat plot is avoided and that the game finishes on a hopeful note.  No item(s) that refer to player choices.

Also, does this mean that Bio has a small team currently working on the next ME game while Andromeda is getting the "finishing touches"?

I'm not so sure: it is referred to as the most powerful force in the universe when used to claim possesion of an object or an idea by a dictionary. If they've already claimed dibs infinity, humanity will need something that trumps that dibs and there are so few things that can do that: I mean, it is dibs infinity.

Andromedans will have to go to a parallel or alternate universe to escape the power of dibs, then.

So its basically colonization of America story set in space where we fight a race of savage monsters only to discover that they arent savage or monsters and that in fact we are the monsters. Anyone willing to bet that will be the story

It will become manifest destiny politics....

A lot of play there...we can be the murderers or peacemakers...likely peacemakers...

Out of curiosity: are this kind of survey sent from EA/BioWare? Or people can request to participate?

I am actually not sure how I get the surveys to be honest, maybe because they have my profile info from playing there games and the emails are randomly sent? I also do surveys on the side on other sites, so maybe that is it? Usually there will be a e-mail every 1-3 months that says EA - 'Make your opinion count'.

.... this is sounding a lot like Mass Effect 1 you know - an all human crew with both Human & Alien Squadmates.

There's nothing in this survey to even remotely cause worry about an ME-1 I redux - not for me .

Despite this survey and the reporter's conclusions, I have only discerned that Andromeda has the presence of a new N7, a revamped mako, a group of explorers, with life in a new HD scenery backdrop, with new 'cool' alien species (TBA), and existing within a more 'open world' with marketing claims of a deeper and more enriched milieu and environment. That's all I think I really know so far. A reporter's report about a survey, and at this early date, is just noise or dust in the wind to me - even if it turns out to have some validity.

There will be no beacon, no synthetic enemy (right off the bat, at least), and no renegade Spectre. I'm also nauseated at the thought of fighting the reapers again. There's no good reason to go that route, imo. Maybe there's an N7 fallen from grace who went nuts during the trip, but I seriously doubt that too. They have had several good writers who certainly know the pitfalls of a repeat. I am optimistic.

The real question is whether EA knows about these surveys at all.
Everyone can create surveys with suggestive topics
(ie properly worded a contentious topic - "would you be offended if SP is reduced to minimum? (yes/no/don't care). From the response , I can draw any conclusion I want. (easily offended -> openminded->irrelevance)
In such way they (fans, gamer magazines, op posters, the neighbours' yellow cat) might want to create their own mini headcanon.

So why wouldn't the native species to Andromeda be hostile to a species from the Milky Way invading their territory?

What gives humanity the right to set up a new homeworld there? And then, if successful, expand?

Manifest Destiny?

We would be upset at some invading "not from our galaxy" species.

Why not those from Andromeda?

What if all advanced organics are extinct in Andromeda and only Synthetics rule that Galaxy  ? There is allways the Synthetics vs. Organics war.

So many negative opinions about a tiny survey leak. No wonder the devs don't post here anymore.

Can everyone take a chill pill? We know next to nothing about the game. At least have some hope.

Much better.

I think they still going to mess up by putting the same humanity is special bs. I can understand why people won't buy the game because of a used up plot that's been used by other Western movies and shows.

I think it will be cool to face off with a new species of aliens that we are actually invading. Just imagine how the protheans would have reacted if they discovered a primitive species trying to colonize their planets...

From Eurogamer.net :
An EA marketing survey detailing Mass Effect: Andromeda has leaked online.
"Mass Effect: Andromeda takes players to the Andromeda galaxy, far beyond the Milky Way, where players will lead the fight for a new home in hostile territory - where WE are the aliens - opposed by a deadly indigenous race bent on stopping us.
"Experience the freedom to traverse and explore a planet-dense but seamless open-world galaxy, rich with discovery. Play as the leader of a squad of military-trained experts in an intense third-person shooter, with deep progression and customisation systems.
"This is the story of humanity's next chapter, and player choices throughout the game will ultimately determine our survival in the Andromeda galaxy."
"There is a major battle brewing, and it awaits you. It is unfolding across a galaxy of planets, with creatures and species entirely unknown. Draw your weapon, because the fight is bigger than you thought. It's not just for your own life, it's for all humanity - the ultimate battle for a place we can all call home."

So... most of this information has already been confirmed, but we still can get a clearer image of what the game's premise is going to be.

sounds awesome.

Sounds bland, but if they make it fun like Starship Troopers, it could work. I don't have much faith that progressive bioware will make this a fun experience. instead it'll probably be a hand holding lecture about how awful western colonialism is and blah blah blah. Then again, they managed to make elves in dragon age the horrible bigots some of us knew they were, so maybe they'll be able to pull this off and not make it just a finger wagging experience.

Certainly there can be moments when you can be merciful sure, but if this is a battle for survival to invade a territory, lets show some of that sometimes justified brutality.

Honestly what really doesn't tickle my fancy is how the hostile alien race is pretty much qll they've toted out here. No mention of other aliens besides unintelligent "creatures", not a word I'd use to describe sentients considering they didn't describe the previous race as "creatures".

Since we're all huamns, and thjs sounds like a human exclusive voyage, I'm curious what kind of asspull they'll make to explain all the recycled assets, I mean returning races in this game.

It is inevitable, without Reapers to maintain the cycle, after all

I want to hear the explanation believe me. It may give us a clue to the TL? Pre Genophage cure means it's not an issue if we DO leave after Thessia it presents problems.

I suspect the explanation is that our choices "mattered" so much that an entire galaxy and all it's associated lore has been tossed into the ash heap.
