The whole point of this thread is and always has been critics of the character in the game not that someone shouldn't be allowed to do so.
This is a forum. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion - even if it doesn't happen to match yours. Trolling and outright abuse with gifs is another thing which you did when you quoted a small part of my post and dismissed the rest.
The title of this thread tells you what kind of theme to expect here. If you don't want to hear negative things about Solas , then don't read them. If you feel they are wrong or have something to say, then you can do so.On a thread dedicated , we're well within our rights to say our piece, so long as we do it with civility.
I'm all for people defending a game they like. But cheap throwaway lines like "Unless, you know, you like siting around complaining about a game series" are a form of trolling.
The issues are more complicated than that, and when either side of this argument tries to simplify it ivy resorting to such easy parroting on these issues, then it gets us nowhere, except to make both sides harden their views even further and assume each other are just zealous Fanboy/Hater nutcases who won't listen to reason.

And for the most part the convo goes quite smoothly but there is a select few, who all their purpose is, is to shut down anyone who likes the guy. It's a video game. It's not that serious. It's OK to like a character others may not. But it's not OK to go to certain threads just to talk down to, demean, or degrade people discussing that like. Which is what a large portion of people on this thread and many many others, do. Consistently. It's enough. It's one thing to disagree but it's a completely different thing to out and out degrade people for disagree. If that makes me a Fanboy zealot then I'm pretty d*mn proud of it. It's called being individual and standing out from the crowd. So thanks.

Thread titles don't have to strictly determine  the discussion. 

Op had the desire to hear thoughts about Solas and didn't give to me the impression to have opened the topic to replicate The Blanketfort.

I was careful with my wording. I said I could argue that. Even if I'm wrong, the main point of my post was the second part:

 

"But I haven't seen anyone act like you're not allowed to offer criticism regardless. There have been 136 pages of well-thought-out, extensive discussion, so I'm not going to get annoyed if there are a few pictures and gifs posted when people start to tire of the endless debates."

 

Quote something with the sole purpose to dismiss it  via mockery Gif is something that i consider a form of incivility.

Hey, pictures are worth a thousand words, right? Gifs have a whole bunch of frames, so they're worth thousands of words!

 

Personally, I think they're a great way to express your reaction concisely, whatever that reaction may be. I don't really see how it's different from writing a paragraph about it, except that it's more efficient.

 

Regardless, the gifs/pictures on the last page weren't even in direct response to anyone, they were simply an attempt to lighten the mood/stay positive/end an off-topic discussion, all of which I consider good. One of the gifs/pictures was even posted by someone who doesn't like Solas very much. So again, I don't see the problem here.

Also - it's funny that you tell me to "read the post" while you apparently haven't done it yourself. I mean, the post itself is entirely about asking why people like Solas.

 

 

What does Solas do in The DLC's that some people here like or maybe even love him so much. Because i know him only from my Inquisition game and i cannot imagine that someone gets truly romantic feelings for him. It's not that i do not like him for me it is in between i find him a bit a mister know it all and he is a little bit to elfy for me. There is nothing wrong with that ( he is an elf ). But i do like his stories when he tells about them but to really like ( love ) him then no not me.

  

You would probably say that i should buy the DLC's and find out myself i am planning to. But i have to wait a little longer so in the meantime you might tell me a little bit why you like ( love ) him so much ( or not ).

That people who dislike him chimed in and we've had a heated discussion ever since doesn't change the fact that the topic's name isn't "positive and negative opinions about Solas" or what it's started as.

 

Now, I personally don't mind that the discussion got broader, or for @Patricia08 to edit her initial post or topic name accordingly. That's not the issue here, so don't try to make it one. The recent issue at hand wasn't even about people liking or disliking in general, but some expressing confusion why would someone who openly declared they're done with the franchise spend time in a thread where people are focused on a character they're apparently sick of focusing on.

And the Judgements. Thanks for bringing that up, seeing as how the whole idea of giving someone those insults isn't a form of incivility and even worse blaming players for staying , like they are *obviously* doing something wrong, is cheap and it isn't even remotely true besides.

People love to make these kinds of cheap and easy statements, trying to steal a march and establish 'facts' that simply don't stand up to scrutiny.

I didn't quote anything out of its context. You said you were done with Dragon Age. You said you're "fed up" with the series. You didn't like the "all-important metaplot." And now you're trying to walk it all back as if you're just irritated with one game. Here's what you said below. Emphasis added.

The series is obviously going to continue with the meta-plot that you're fed up with. Patrick Weekes said the next game is going to focus on finishing up the Solas part of the story. So, it's totally reasonable to expect that you'd move on to discuss something else, since you're done with Dragon Age. And you're "utterly sick" of Solas.

What's more, he's proven that he has issues with fact checking and reading earlier, as well as during arguments in different threads, to me and others.

What "we deserve to rule!". What "labeling you all dumb"? Nobody is "labeling you dumb" - in fact what "you" are you talking about? Nobody has even called you, personally, a DA hater or something, sheesh - I mean, you yourself said that you're pretty much done with the series and that's what people stuck to.

At best people have problems with sloppy arguments and foul attitudes, or point out things that stem from comments that were written, especially if they tend to be hypocritical or hyperbolic. And yours most definitely veered into hyperbolic, fast.

I don't see the problem here i read the OP and Patricia 08 said love Solas or not otherwise i would have not posted here....

I don't understand why the title of the thread should be in any way exhaustive it is just a brief  description or are we going to argue that the title of a book is the book?

 

Plus i agree with Lunatica i think i have been calling an ignorant,obtuse ecc... in this thread beyond counting from the same pair of users so if they could just moderate their tones since they are indeed rude

I haven't said anyone is dumb. I just don't like the passive aggressive nature and tone I read in the context I see of some of the posts. The fact people have to create carefully worded titles to protect them" blanketfort threads" from demeaning and or over zealous " Oh yeah well I hate your favorite character because this this and oh yeah this" tells me so so much about the state of forums today. Honestly this forum is no better than blizzards. The decent convos get lost in the, and im guilty of participating in this, back and forths. It honestly feels like some people have to grab hold tight and defend why they like what they like. And I'm kinda with almostfaceman. I don't understand why you personally would engage in a thread about someone you are sick to death of. It's like glutton for punishment. And out of everyone commenting here you happen to be the only one vehemently determined to put others in their place for even disagreeing or pointing out flaws or mistakes in your posts. I don't disagree with everything you have said but I do disagree with your attitude. It would serve you better to adjust it a bit and take a step back. Sweetie, you and they can have any view you want but don't get crazy mad when someone posts a rebuttal. It's called debate. However probably 60 pages of this thread is more so subtal demeaning thrown to those of us who choose to voice a difference of agreement. It is what it is. You kids can go ahead and act like I or a few others are the bad guys I really don't care at the end of the day this is just some forum that doesn't mean much once my pc is off. Forums like this remind me why I prefer single player games and gaming alone without discussion. It's not worth it anymore.

That's wasn't the original intent...it was a play on the tragic fan tear inducing romance. You know, since Solas dumps you...and goes off to destroy the world and all. It was a place to chat, like over icecream.

I never thought that it was meant to shield or exclude anybody from having mature debate about the game or Solas...if people are staying away because they think they are unwelcome, I think that's sad too. The thread does prefer to keep it civil though, and why not. I don't know why that should be difficult..The only thing I can think is that these kind of debates tend to get heated when people are associating real world things out of context and making assumptions about why people like a certain character, etc. I.E..you must be racist or support genocide if you like Solas, etc.

I have never discussed the DA  characters in their main threads because i think that there they tend to be praised a lot and that any critics will be taken as a form of offence.This is simply the way in which most  threads about Npc in the story&campaign section tend to become after a while since they are mostly  visited by the fans of the characters.

And I have most certainly, 100% not edited my own post that quotes her. You want to have full certainty? You can ask BioWare forum mod. They  have previews of older forum version posts and can check who actually altered posts and when. And I'm 100% perfectly certain I've made no edits in that quoted post and they can back me up with this, in case anybody thought of spreading more false accusations. I usually don't bother with treating forum activity too seriously, but nobody will slander me and think they can get away from it without consequences

To alter your own post, you have to go into edit mode for the post. The two are literally interchangeable in the context of this message board and that's the context of midnight tea's words.
