I do too. Not my Lavellan (I've yet to venture into gif making), but one of the better gifs I've seen out there. Love the colors and the hair mod, and I'm glad they didn't mod Solas' face and clothes, too. I've only seen a couple of those that I like. Here's a cute one of them dancing. :3

The title of the thread is asking why we love Solas so much, lawl, I'm just trying to stay on topic.

Another thing - "death" can mean many things. He himself says that he's on din'anshiral - the path of death, but in an edgame dialogue with Cole he claims that he will walk the path he's on for eternity and states that he "will never forget" romanced Lavellan. Mythal was also "killed" - yet she's still alive. "Death" of one world, or civilization, doesn't mean the end of it all. It wasn't an end of it all when he "destroyed the world of elves", wasn't it?

 

In other words, we don't even know what will happen. What if "death" is more metaphorical, which in a world where symbolism and meaning and shifting perspective actually has an effect on reality can mean many things. So far we only know that there are prophecies and hints, and one of the major prophecies that seems to be tied to what Solas is doing claims that "everyone will be like they were". Not elves, not ancient elves - everyone.

We're talking about the world where metaphors or concepts can even walk and talk and ancient elves whose language is basically all about layers of meaning, while the world itself can shift in accordance to someone's will or state of mind. Not a big stretch of imagination to consider that there may be an actual metaphor or two there  ...

It's funny - weren't you calling people "binary thinkers" a few pages back?  Maybe it was someone else - I'm too lazy to check.

I like Solas as a character. I find his point of view interesting during the game (though I don't necessarily agree with his views). I liked the reveal of his identity (in general I was waiting to see some the different legends in Thedas be true, outside of the Old Gods. And I like how different the elven gods seem to be from the legends), as well as his transition from a companion to an antagonist, I'm eager to see how his plot will develop in the following games.

How my characters would deal with him in the following games depends on the PC. If it's my main Inquisitor he'd try to stop him as well as saving his old friend. A new character, probably not, though there are a lot of variables.

Seriously. I do not have the time or inclination to spend hours defending a character I enjoy from people who have nothing better to do but perpetuate negativity, but I'm glad to drop in a bit of love for my bae.

 

To be frank, I'm not interested in changing anyone's mind about him, that's Bioware's job. They've already done a pretty good one in giving me an antagonist that I can care about enough to want to bring him back over to my character's side, romanced or not. I hope they can fix things together, instead of chop chop flashy lights, yay you killed another pile of useless pixels, now what? Ooh, another monster?

 

Bleh. I've already saved the world twice, I couldn't stop Anders, I'd like to save my friend this time, too.

He really is a fabulous character to spark so much feeling, whether positive or negative. I'd go so far to say he's my favorite character out of any Bioware game.
