Well, the thread *is* about why we love Solas. A little blanket forting is in order after all the serious business for 50 odd pages. Bring on the shallow! :)

The Blanketfort is obsessed with Solas, not in love with him.

Let's just kill him and be done with this whole thing lol.

:)

Yes. I want good loot. I imagine my DA4 protagonist offing Solas and wearing his wolf jawbone as a trophy.

So this thread has become another Solas The Blanketfort ?

Yeah and its time to abandon thread because we are not going to be able to reason with people who are obsessed with him. It would be the equivalent of telling Joy Richards to stop being infatuated with Ted Kaczynski - Not going to happen and not worth our time.

Well to be fair, I always felt some anti-Solas people here always bordered the edge of disliking Solas to being all out haters. The dislike turning into an unreasonable hatred that would accept no other answer than that Solas is a monster that deserves no sympathy.

So fueled by malice and contempt are they, that they dare not even fathom that maybe the people who like Solas have valid opinions and valid views of him. Just like the people who are obsessed with Solas, and cannot see a single flaw in him, the people who are obsessed Solas on the other side of spectrum (hatred) cannot see a single virtue.

So there's that.

Which is why I stay far away from the Blanketfort.

Interesting that I called it (the Blanketfort) a "love fest" and someone here tried to twist that into more "women victimization" and yet, here we are, a bunch of silly little posts all worshiping the bald rat (hmm... I think that works as a double entendre) because they can't beat those that hate Solas into submission with their affectations.

It's not about being right... I hate the character of Solas in spite of what others consider his virtues.  Others like Solas in spite of what I consider his flaws.

For myself - I have yet to find a virtue in him and I'm playing a bestie Lavellan currently.  The poor elf just keeps digging his grave of disappointment deeper and deeper as I go through Solas cutscenes (which I never had before because my main Inky hates Solas)

EDIT:  If those wolf cupcakes were Solas inspired... then I stand corrected, I found one redeeming quality... because those cupcakes look awesome.

Why does your bestie Lavellan hate Solas ? Is it because of his anti-Dalish attitude ?

Fair enough.

I suppose that's the other side of the coin (so to speak), seeing as how this was a thread asking why people live Solas, and yet there were people post a bunch of silly little posts of how Solas is monster beyond all redemption and anyone who thinks otherwise is fangirl who likes bad boyz. Because they can't beat those like Solas into submission with their contempt.

In truth, the main issue with such people is that they think a valid alternate view does not exist. That somehow all who hate Solas must not "truly" see him, and that those who like him do not "really" see all of his flaws. And I admit, sometimes even I have thoughts along those lines--particularly when they say things when mechanics and codex entries in game suggest the possibility of the contrary being a possibility.

But it is when they become insistent that their view is the correct one, and that all others who disagree are "fools" or some other derogatory group, that discussion truly comes to a halt. Because then its not discussion. its an argument about whose view is better and "right".

So there's that.

Every single positive asset he may have for his fans is completely overshadowed by his own misdeeds and his future intentions for me.

I putted him into the libra and his negative spectrum is overwhelming and far greater than his virtues.

@Secret Rare:  Playing the game as his friend... I can't even see a single virtue.

I just notice every time he purposefully obfuscates the truth.

I'm purposefully roleplaying an innocent dupe.

I will never be able to get past the concept that if Solas had just told me the truth in the Conclave ruins - I would see someone entirely different.  I would still oppose his world destruction plan... but for me, I cannot get past his years worth of lies.  It shadows all future revelations for me.  So, any speculation as to his "character" or "intentions" always come back to who he has been for the last three years of game time.

My character is a relic hunter of sorts.. Like the guy who goes traipsing about in ruins, for old sisters like the one we see in Denerim.

That said, that's my character's fascination with Solas. He seems to have so much knowledge about this stuff, but in a way that was inaccessible to the likes of my rogue. So he likes him.... at first. He has a different sort of comfort with ruins and study, so to speak. Mine's more like Genetivi.

Little does he know that Solas actually wants to live in the past.

That's a good one.

Mine is also fascinated by Solas' worldliness - in some ways like a father figure.

Because of my Lavellan's growing friendship with Cole - he can admire Solas' intimacy with the Fade and with Spirits.  He feels like he's walking in Solas' footsteps.

Come Trespasser however he will recoil from these things as dangerous and take a more worldly view of them instead of one of childlike awe and wonder.

For my Lavellan - it's a coming of age story when you realize that the person you admire as a father is anything but perfect.  Of course - since Solas is talking genocide... my Lavellan will not respond with disappointment like:  "Oh, my dad doesn't know everything." but terror "Oh, my dad is comfortable with genocide."

This is somewhat reminiscent of Luke & Vader scene at Bespin where Luke, like your Lavellan, will lose a hand.

It's interesting for me - because I almost want to make my Lavellan my main.  Given my disdain for the Dalish 'in general' I can see the irony in that.

But - I would then join the masses of people that would want to play the Inquisitor again... because I will feel like this Lavellan is just starting at the moment when he sees Solas for what he is for the first time in Trespasser.

So you're telling me, if Solas went "I am Fen'Harel ancient elvhen god of rebellion. I didn't really betray the gods out of spite, I did it to save the world plus enact my revenge because they killed Mythal. Also I have an orb that I gave to Corypheaus, but I messed up because he actually survived the explosion." you'd totally believe that....

Yeah.....I find it really dubious that Solas telling anyone about any of the truth at the Conclave ruins would have brought him nothing more than Templars dragging him in chains for being a mad man that thinks himself an ancient elf (impossible by their standards) and part of the elvhen pantheon (heresy by even Dalish standards). Even the Inquisitor wouldn't be likely to believe him.

Him telling anyone about who he was or what he did, prior to the revelations at the Temple of Mythal at least (and I'm being generous), would be nothing short of stupidity (no offence).

@Almostfaceman:  Are you saying that Solas is not smarter nor wiser than the PC?

Are you saying that the perception of being smarter or wiser is not one of the reasons people enjoy Solas' character?

And are you saying that you do not trust Solas' plan?

So you can't answer my question. Gotcha.

Solas knows a lot of about the history of the ancient elves. That =/= smarter or wiser than the PC.

The perception of being smart and wise may be a reason people enjoy the character of Solas, but I'm not going to speak for anyone. That would be arrogant. And rude.

I don't know whether or not to trust the plan of Solas, since we don't have all the information. I've already said that if the plan isn't illuminated further in DA4, it's a crappy plan.

But you'd already know that if you'd bother to read what I've already posted.
