You have to select how are you then do the 2nd hack quest. You have to hack all 5 terminals to get the 5 data and a new option to give to Liara. After selecting the correct option go see her and talk to her again. You'll get "how was the fight?" and "What happens now?". You can pick either, after that you are given the investigate option to ask about the shadow broker. If you select Liara's needs or Don't give into temptation the conversation ends with no chance to ask about the SB.

Thanks Corti , i'll give that a shot. i've done and redone the quests a few times, might have just passed over the investigate not thinking.  I appreicate the responses ! :D

Yeah, I'm used to the investigate function not really being character path important a'la ME1, I almost missed the one for Liara. Only now on my second play-through did I discover a bunch for Jacob that started a bromance with him.

The weird thing about that investigate option is that one of them ends the conversation... they're not really supposed to do that...

Yeah, it almost seems like Bioware was trying to hide the SB one. I always go from top to bottom when it comes to investigation options so when the conversation ended with that one i was confused.

Yeah, it almost seems like Bioware was trying to hide the SB one. I always go from top to bottom when it comes to investigation options so when the conversation ended with that one i was confused.

Same here.... always top to bottom.  So when the conversation ended after asking if she needed anything else, I was devastated.  Here she was, my favorite character from the first game, my love interest, and she was blowing me off.   Luckily, I had read a description of Liara's "confession" dialog a few days ago, so I knew it had to be there.  It explains why she acted so distant, why she is so obsessed with the SB.  Without that last piece of conversation, the whole Liara plot line is wasted.  Why Bioware would make it so easy to miss is beyond me.  Is it a bug?  Did they hide it on purpose?

Anyway, I was deeply disappointed by much Liara had changed.... until I got that last conversation.  It was a front, a bluff to keep Shepard from finding out the truth, and possibly hating Liara for it.  But by listening to her confession, and telling her afterwards that she did the right thing, you can tell that a small piece of her burden has been lifted.  She's still not free to come with you, but she's no longer trying to push you away either.

It would've been nice for Bioware to throw in an extra line that confrims her and Shep were still a couple, but her admiting that she "couldn't let you go" will have to suffice, I guess.

ya, i was amazed at the total 180 that liara did from the first game. when i first walked in and shes was doing her "have you ever faced an asari commando squad" in that mystical type voice that benezia had on the feros encounter, i was like "this is NOTHING like the liara i knew from the first game!" sadly though, after reading this thread, apparently i made some wrong choices in my convo with her and didnt get to hear everything she had to say. that being said, i havent read the comics or the wiki on ME, so, its all new to me.

Although, it wasn't just the mystical type voice she was borrowing, the "Have you ever faced an asari commando squad? Few humans have" line was actually a direct Benezia quote. And considering how poor the "fit your remains into a coffee cup" line was, I can see why she felt the need to borrow her mother's material. From the get go that signalled to me that she was putting on some kind of front or act, especially considering her vehemence in the first game that she was nothing like her mother. Then when my Shep asked her to just talk to me, and she replied "Don't you think I want to? This is Illium, everything we say is likely being recorded" or something along those lines. Seemed like the closest she could come to admitting there was something she wished she could say, but couldn't.

On the other hand though, if she really cared, she'd find a way. Take you to a shielded room, return to the Normandy just for a quick chat, slip you a written note, something. Combine that with how little I liked what I saw of her - act or not - like another poster said, this isn't the Liara I fell for. Which is what made it really easy for me to cheat on her. Because honestly, I find Tali and Jack both much more interesting. Even if I knew for certain Liara's new attitude was an act, I don't think I'd want to stay loyal to her. It's gonna be hard enough choosing which LI to go for from the ME2 lot, Liara just doesn't compare.

I was actually noticing something about Femshep/Liara... I mean I don't have this for XBox so I couldn't import my save, but Liara only gave my Femshep a hug =/ Kinda sad really... no kiss :(

She does care... you just have to pick the right dialog options at the right times.  She confesses everything to you, tells you that she couldn't get over your death, couldn't "let you go."  She's still the same Liara, but she's burdened with immense guilt and regret.  All of you who are writing her off as changed, cold, or uncaring are making a mistake.

The answers are there.  You just have to dig for them.

As for this kiss... I think that's a case of the animator's reach exceeding his/her grasp.  Liara greets Shep warmly, leans in for a kiss, but stops Shep from prolonging the embrace because she's convinced she's being watched.  But they tried to pull of the scene without any dialog, relying completely on body language.  It doesn't entirely work.

Grrrr.....half of my excitment was the love scene.....

but if it'll payoff in ME3.... another2/3 years!!!

But.... what if I want.... other options? Garrus? Jacob?

How can I explore new options w/o the whole cheating thing??

Start new Shepards, that what I did. I was going to stay loyal to kaidan on my main Shepard, but then he was a total **** to me and Garrus was super sexy, so I'll just use another save to stay loyal. :P

I too was disappointed in this - it seems like the writers reached a little too far in making her seem "hard." I do think it makes sense for her to pour herself into her work. It doesn't make sense for her to be a tough, hard*** type UNLESS she is just acting that way for her job (they should show it wearing on her though). If she believes this is what she needs to do, then it makes sense.

However, her becoming obsessed like this only makes sense in two situations for me. One, if she was Shepard's lover in ME1 she wants to get revenge on the shadow broker for trying to sell his body. Two, if she was NOT Shepard's lover she may have fallen in love with someone else and he got captured while/because she was looking for Shepard's body. It doesn't fit her character at all to get over Shepard quickly in the love case, especially when she knows there's a chance he/she will come back. It's a shame, because the characterization is so good with almost everyone else. Judging from the reaction here, I think her dialogue would benefit from not having paths switched off when you say certain things.

As for my experience, I think my import was glitched because I romanced her in the first game, but I didn't get a kiss and the dialogue I saw had to do with her "friend" whom I took to be the drell in the comic. (unless she is lying and is really talking about shepard? maybe she feels guilty he was captured because of her trying to get to shepard?) I didn't hear anything about Shepard's body, etc. I would assume you have to pick the right options in 3 dialogues or certain paths get cut off, which sucks. That should be a bug - you should be able to bring up your relationship if it is active.

I've heard that she can confess that all to you, and also there's dialogue options where you have a chance for her to tell Shepard she still loves him/her and that she's "all yours" when the shadow broker has been taken down. Anyone seen that?

I do feel like Bioware wanted to make it "easy" to cheat on your LI from ME1. There's no payoff to stay and the other relationships are much more fulfilling. You should be able to go hang out with her/ashley/kaidan like you can with the ME2 LIs.

Okay, so I beat ME2 like...20 minutes ago, but does anyone know if going back to Illium and talking to Liara will open up new dialog? I came to my comp to ask instead of traveling half way across the galaxy...I didn't want to be disappointed since I kinda have my hopes up that there is :'(

I agree! i was totally sitting there..like..."Is that it?????REALLY?"  the extra dialogue really makes a huge difference. I too was like "WOW...unexplained character 360- " till i saw the extra options. I think thoes needed to be a bit more in the open.

Bumping the thread to see if anyone knows if the extra bit of dialogue about relationship is true.

This run through I'm playing a ME1 import femshep 100% paragon. Started Liara dialogue on Illium with 4 quarters of paragon and 1/2 of 1 quarter renegade. Got the kiss when I walked in and ended with the SB dialogue in which Liara tells you why she's changed.

But no relationship discussion. I can't imagine people are messing with us especially since I started hearing about this before the game came out from people playing it. Probably naive, but I'd think there would be bigger things to mess with people about...or maybe not.

So I totally missed the extra dialogue too, since I also investigate top to bottom almost every time. Sucks because I'm hours and hours and hours past that now. I have a save right before it and could go back...but should I replay everything I've done since (most of the loyalty missions) or just watch the dialogue and return to the future?

I'm playing my main playthrough now...the one I'll very likely import first into ME3. The question is whether or not having the full dialogue will make a difference in ME3.

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?! Are you serious? So my Shep can't continue the romance from ME1?! I have to wait until Mass Effect 3??!

This is correct, there is no continuation of the ME1 romance in ME2.

Am I the only one who liked Liara's scene in ME2. I didn't like the character in Mass Effect 1 I found her to be boring and weak, I preferred the tougher Ashley but in ME 2 its clear she has gone through some hard times and is a lot stronger and more interesting so I chose to go back and romance her in ME1.
