Anyone else who saw this movie get some serious "Mass Effect vibes?" I just saw this movie and was constantly reminded ME.

- Mass Relay like device
- Built by unknowns billions of years ago (current aliens stumbled (?) upon it) - "maybe someday they'll come back" *cough* Reapers *cough*
- Multiple "wormholes" to get to final destination (similar to the relay network)
- Space

Not many, I know, but the moment I saw the alien spinning device on Earth I was continuously thinkin of ME.

Anyone else?

Good points actually!

Contact is one of my all time favorite movies. There's not enough sci-fi like it being made. Wish there were more hard sci-fi movies and less action/adventure focused ones.

Spoiler
Not quite the same, but still. :)

Well...since I first saw Contact back in 1997, for me it's more along the lines of "When I first saw the Mass Relays in Mass Effect, I was thinking 'obviously inspired by Contact."

Love this movie. It is on Netflix. I can kinda see a connection...the ending wormhole technology is the only thing that doesn't quite fit to me.

If its the movie I'm thinking of the ending sucked as well, so there's another you can add to that list.

My avatar.

It's my favorite sci fi film next to AI and hugely underrated.

I've never seen a launch sequence that exciting in any other science fiction film, ever.

It's been a while since I saw the movie. Should've picked up on the Foster avatar anyway =). Yep, good movie.

The relay-like thingie is at 1:14. It is identical to the spinning circles of the mass relays.

Oh nevermind that, watch how the spinning thingie lights up EXACTLY like a mass relay at the 3-minute mark.

Oh my god
To be honest I'm not even mad. I'm somehow excited my favorite game adopted those spinning rings from my favorite movie. :'D

And the pale blue matter writhing around the rings looks exactly like what biotics would look like in a ME movie. It's identical to the Conduit on Ilos.
