Tried to be nice and make her less psychotic, she starts talking about how she got some guy killed when he tried to save her etc etc. Is there a way to clarify that you just want to be friends?
Is there a way NOT to romance Jack without being an ass?

She doesn't seem to want to be "just good friends"
You end up either a jerk or a lover as far as she is concerned...
Might be different if you are a FemShep - not sure if Jack swings both ways or not though...she does suggest that this is the case in one conversation with her.

I was generally nice to her but I tried not to be over the top. At one point she asked if I was interested in her, and I said no. That was pretty much all it took, unless I missed something afterwards.

Yeah. I think there's a dialogue early on where she asks if you're interested. That's the one where you can have aggressive mean sex or tell her you're willing to wait. There you can let her down lightly then keep being nice to her, as far as I know.
