How Long Do You Play After Reaching Level 20?

I am just curious about this.

I know you are supposed to promote once you reach level 20 but as you get a spell/ability when you reach 20 it seems a waste to not at least try it out for a while. I mean that's like getting a high performance part for you car then selling it without at least taking it for a test drive! :P

I have also found I will pick a spell I haven't used before (that point) just to see if it is better that what I might pick on the way up.

So I end up running one or two operations then promoting.

You?

None now, use to do a run on a harder level to see if I was ready on that agent.

NEVA!!!

 (Actually rather serious about that one....I just turn around and immediately promote. The only time I didn't - that I recall - was when I was helping a friend who had never played before, many months ago. I had pretty paultry promos back then, and wasn't confident I could carry both of us, if need be.)

None, except attempting Heartbreaker at low promotes

Used to hang on my level 20s and play a few matches with them pre-armor buff and when I had very few promotions.  Now I just get a character to level 20, then jump to one of my level 1 characters and get that to 20.  Rinse and repeat.  After they're all at level 20, I promote them all and start again.

Occasionally I'll bring a level 20 into a Nightmare pug if I get into a group that isn't that good or if I just want an easy Nightmare run without having to worry about bringing a level 1 and dying frequently (unless I'm with a group of friends, then I don't really mind bringing a level 1).  For the most part, though, I try to avoid playing my level 20s until I promote everything.

Used to do up to five games with a level 20 character & do enjoy playing as a max level, but I've been promoting as soon as I hit max just lately so that I can get my stats to 200 across the board, once I've got them I plan to stop the grind again & just stick it out as max...I'll also leave a character at max level when they've about 4 extractions left before completing their 250 extractions.

Just me though.

Depends on the class. Currently deciding whether or not to promote my warriors and mages to push for a very slow 170 to 200 in their respective stats. Wouldn't play any games at 20 in that case, and insta-promoting is how I've always done things. My rogues have all been level 20 since I hit 200 cunning, though, so I only play them for completions or for fun. I have an overflow of 3m xp on my Archer...

I'll also leave a character at max level when they've about 4 extractions left before completing their 250 extractions.

And me. Mainly because level 20 looks tidy and I refuse to play them again. Unless they use bows.

It´s the (stupid) promoting system that prevents people from playing level 20. (an option just to reset your XP but not your level would have fixed that ^^)

But if you feel like playing level 20, do it. You having fun is most important. :)

Recently a lot of low promoted players join NM games, and my foot starts hurting :D , but some of them, even if low promos and gear, are doing fine with a level 20 agent. I prefere that than they just join to leech. (oh my poor foot).

I only play lvl 20 in heartbreaker or when completing some challenges.

Also played some NM when I was going for Hakkons and didn't have any other agent able to keep playing.

Do you have to be playing at the NM level to get the Hakkon drops?

NM dragons used to be the only way for Hakkons. I think even now it's the main one.

NM dragons are still the main way.  You have to be really lucky still. (I got two here.  I got my first from one of the victory chests long ago.)

You can get them from superb requisitions.  You have to be EXTREMELY lucky.  I have not gotten any from here.  I have gotten other lvl 26/27 weapons from here.

But as to the first, when I had 5 or less promotions, I played lvl 20's a few times.  I may sometimes for NM purposes, but for the most part, 20 = promote immediately.

I might try that "get all to 20" and then promote all.  Do you see bigger differences when you finally promote them the next time you use a lvl 1?

I am fairly happy with the superb requisitions and got some level twenty stuff right off the bat and still seem to be getting lucky. I think I am up to about 18 promotions now. And it seem the chests loot seems to be getting better as I go up.

One thing that is driving me nuts (and I've heard some other people complaining about it as well) that on Perilous single arrows are killing me even if I have a full barrier. So (as I am so new) I am just sticking to Threatening now until I get higher. What makes no sense is I can solo through some of the Threatening games (unless its Qunari as the baddies) and yet ONE freaking arrow is killing me on Perilous. Doing my head in.

Sounds like someone needs to start running their rogues.

I like that :) better then going to leech in games of higher difficulty ^^

And btw, your promotions or whatever have nothing to do with the Items you get out of chest. First: different difficulty levels have different loot tables (NM and HB share the same) Second: Each Item you loot (from chests in game (treasure rooms) and from chests from the store) improve your loot score and enable you to get better items (well some still with rare chances) and you still get highland dirks no matter how high you are on the loot table :D

Meh, I played my Warden well into Awakening and he's a level 26. However, I don't really care for my Quiz after level twenty so nope, not much is done afterwords.

Pre-armor buff, archers were a serious pain on Threatening, let alone Perilous.  On Perilous, your best bet is to try to avoid getting hit by arrows as much as possible and make targeting them a priority.  Until your cunning is up to a decent amount, you'll have to play smart when archers are involved (which, basically, is nearly all the time, unless by some stroke of luck they manage to be replaced by animals for a zone or 2).

Which characters do you play the most, btw?

Oh I would be too embarrassed to do that. If I can't carry my own weight and help the team as a whole, would never be there.

I play Keeper and AW the most. I have played around with others  but they seem too slow for me. Tho, from what I read above looks like I will have to play them more if I want to move on or just be happy with being on Threatening.

There used to be a tool tip for Routine, Threatening, and Perilous on what level you should be that was pretty accurate for me with very little promotions.

If I remember right it was...

Routine - levels 1 through 7

Threatening - levels 8 through 14

Perilous - levels 15-20

With AW that should be a pretty good guide.  Although I remember reading early on that your gold/xp per hour was faster in Threatening than in Perilous.  This was also true for me with little promotions.  If you hook up with higher powered folks this is less true and perilous is the new threatening, especially after you get some good gear.

Sometimes having teammates that know how and when to open the treasure room doors is more key on perilous.  Unless of course you're in a party with low promotes and bad gear.  Sometimes unleashing that revenant makes the round TOO interesting.
