Really? You must like the way your LI dances. Remember this?

Spoiler

I wasn't being serious.

Also, she's very drunk there.  B)

She has a different animation when sober (Flux & the Silver Coast Casino, and it's much better than Ashley's Elaine Benes imitation:

Liara fainting every 5 minutes in ME1. The first time it sorta made sense. After that:

Pick her up last. You'll have an interesting section where everyone including Ashley/Kaidan, Garrus, Tali and Wrex filling her in about what happen on Noveria, Feros and Virmire.

I haven't played all of them tbh. Forgot about Thane. I don't even think about Jacob. lol

Fine. I'm just gonna leave this at Jack and Miranda. That's all I care about really. Miranda has insecurities, but it isn't about making her beholden to your help or anything. While Jack and Renegade is about both admitting they've seen a lot of crap.. and that they should live for the moment. You could go full Renegade and be a complete tool about it, but there's a nice balance where Renegade respects her and just wants her to move on.

"I'll just **** you up!"

"Good thing I'm undead.."

The thing about most romances in the trilogy was Shepard taking the passive role in the entirety of the relationship. The LIs became objects of desire who happens to be completely available, absolutely desireable and a lot more interesting than the person himself. You don't need to make an effort about telling who you are or make yourself remotely appealing to them as a person because they already are impressed with who you are. They offered themselves to you the moment they took the hint that you're interested in them which is weird especially when they're complete strangers.

Romance is more than picking whichever dream lover you want to bang from the collection that was offered.

I had to quote you again.

You say you didn't like Ashley's dancing? Yet her and Liara have the same dance moves in the dlc.

Except they don't offer themselves that quickly. Miranda and Jack are two of the more independent people in the games. Next to maybe..umm.. Zaeed and Grunt.

Now if you're wanting to tell them a life story or something, sure that would be a nice addition..to be able to talk more about yourself. But this is mostly entertainment. Not a simulator. And romance isn't even a big feature. The best you can do is read inbetween the lines and imagine there's more being said in the conversations than what's actually in the game. Most of the game plots take place over months. It's not like the only time any of these characters talk is when you click on them. If it was a novel, it'd probably a lot better.

Fair enough. I'd only seen Ashley at Flux, and it was bad as the Shepard shuffle.

Ash's OTT aggro on Eden Prime. Pulling a gun and shouting at anyone who flinches. Poor Powell. Or was it Cole? Should've just kept on napping.

Oh and the "On the double Mister!" line from Therum. Unbelievably out of place, out of character, out of universe. Just, no.

Other than that, nothing that made me cringe.

Neither Zaeed or Grunt are romanceable.

Having most of the romances with potential ladies having to unload her internalized emotional baggage just to be worthy of being loved while you're being a casual spectator is considerably bad writing and unappealing, which always seem to be a recurrent theme in Bioware romance template especially for their male players. People are complicated creatures and even the most basic romance tend to be just about two people finding each other, giving lingering teasing looks, trying getting to know each other, flirting, slow burning sexual attraction, chemistry, understanding each other, being comfortable and needing each other's presence like they are the air themselves... romances is not about playing a minigame trying to get into people's panties and LIs shouldn't be an emotional outlet to justify the player's emotionless existence. In this aspect, ME2 romances should be classified as casual flings, while everyone definitely improved in ME3 and with DLCs but I wouldn't say ME2's greatest appeal was its romance.

I think you're expecting a bit too much.

If anything, I think I'm justifying my character's emotion-less experience. Not me - the player. :P

By that I mean, it's a feature I can add where my hero isn't merely some gun toting automaton or sword swinging hero. He's got a "life" too. I miss that relationship aspect in other action games, because of Bioware. But I don't really value it much more than that. It's just a way to humanize things a bit more. The main thing I still want is a good game.

But one could go too far the other way too and get really sappy. In which case, I'd put it here on my list of cringeworthy things. I don't want too much of it.

Some of these have probably be mentioned already, but -

Kai Leng: My shields are down! Cover me while I recharge!

followed by

Kai Leng: There's only one way this ends. Target the supports.

I've raged enough about the Kai Leng fight on Thessia over the past 4 years, but it's still the mission I have the hardest time wanting to pick up the game to progress through.

Kai Leng: No, now it's fun!

The kind of line that someone liked writing, but that no one ever says ever when facing three to one odds. This type of interaction is why critics are usually so dismissive of writing in video games and, to be fair, in most poorly-made action movies.

FemShep to Jacob: I'm more interested in just talking for a bit.

To this day, I still want to ask Jennifer Hale if she was given direction to intentionally make that line as flirty as it comes off. I would probably have a higher opinion of Jacob had she said it more professionally, and it's unfortunate that I am judging Jacob based on how another character initially reacts to him.

Shepard to Wrex: The Krogan weren't ready for a cure.

Mass Effect 2 went out of its way in Mordin: Old Blood to give Shepard reasons to destroy the cure research based on how it was developed. This is why one of my Shepards destroyed it. So when I get to Mass Effect 3 and Wrex asks me why I destroyed the research, the dialogue wheel options were "I regret that I had do it" or "I stand by my decision." I chose "I stand by my decision" and got the above line of dialogue, which has *nothing* to do with why my Shepard destroyed the research.

Clone to Shepard: Drop your weapons or this won't end well for her.

Shepard: Alright..

My Shepard didn't drop her weapons when Captain Matsuo asked for them on Noveria. Didn't drop her weapons on Purgatory when Warden Kirul asked for them. Didn't drop them on Azure when Tela Vasir demanded them. And then....this scene. For the most part, the entirety of the Citadel main story is filled with moments like this. It is the DLC I want to play the least out of any in the franchise, including Pinnacle Station. Only the glorious moments of fan service that come after the main story push me through it.

Traynor/EDI tracks Kai Leng's shuttle to Iera system post-Thessia.

Really. That easy, huh? Especially considering that according to the vids you come across in Cronos Station, Kai Leng didn't go to the *IERA* system after Thessia. He went to Cronos Station, dropped off the Vendetta construct, had a chat with the Illusive Man, and then went to the Iera system. Considering that the signal would have ended at Cronos for a substantial period of time, it's amazing that Traynor was able to pick it up at all once Kai Leng left for Thessia, and unforgivable that she didn't make a note of where the signal stopped. Of course, all of this is supposed to be contingent on the idea that she tracked his movements through the Relay Network, which means it wouldn't have been possible to do once Kai Leng detoured in to the Horse Head Nebula. The trail through the Relay Network would stop there, and then Kai Leng's ship would have gone into FTL for the rest of the journey. NO WHERE NEAR THE IERA SYSTEM.

The whole Joker/EDI romance

Unnecessary, forced, and cringeworthy the entire time.

You've reminded me how daft that scene was. Didn't they draw their guns and then keep them trained on an obvious hologram for about half a minute at one point? Either on Mars or Thessia? A tiny bit over cautious.

Even more annoying is Kashley making the opposite mistake, and stupidly getting close enough to Eva Core to let her smack him/her across the room. That's the kind of thing that has me swearing at the TV when it happens in a cop show or movie.

One last thing that I found irrationally irritating was in the original ending, when Joker was desperately trying to fly the Normandy away from the blast. At one point he looks behind him. Why? He's not driving a bloody car! It's not like he can see the blast gaining on him through the rear window. There's just an empty hallway to the Galaxy map for heaven's sake. I can only think Bioware put that in because that's what people always do in tense movie car chases, but it makes absolutely no sense here.

At least Ashley/Kaidan fired at Core whereas, Liara stood still like a dumba** letting Leng throw her across the screen. She's lucky she wasn't killed.. Because Kai Leng is an idiot, he sticks his sword in the ground instead of in Liara.
