Gnomes.

At first I was like 'wut', but come to think of it....high pitched voices, odd thinking processes, a love of science.   Omg they are gnomes.

You can pick any game to pieces if you want to, they all have strange contrivances that are essential to make them work.  I don't think any game out there is immune to it.

Yeah... You either learn to deal with it or you facepalm every two seconds. I'm in a middle. I can deal with most of it, but there are still things that get to me.

Why would wanting Liara to die would be a shocker? You can have Kaidan, Ashley, Wrex, Garrus, Tali, all ME2 characters and EDI to die very easily in a single trilogy playthrough but you need to get EMS low enough to kill yourself and bring her to the final push just to watch her die. It make sense for James to be plot armored, even Javik will kill himself if you let him touch the shard but Liara wasn't given a situation where you could have easily lose her. The fact it is optional to keep your companions alive, you can experience ME3 differently and it is part of what make some of us to develop some strong attachment to the companions even if they're not your love interest. So.. frankly, after repeat playthroughs, Liara is basically the same, it does get old and boring.

When you think about it, the Krogan are pretty much Orcs. Or at least the more noble sort of Orc or half-Orc that you find outside of Tolkien's material, like Warcraft or Forgotten Realms.

Cool scenario, but when in this Thessia takes place? If when it takes place now and we're still able to recruit Javik and VS after that, then it's far too late. I'm already salty about Tali being added to squad so late. If before Citadel coup, then hey. I like it.

It never happens. It was rewritten. This was a different script, before Javik was DLC..

I know, I just wonder when in that different scrip Thessia took place.

Oh..

Well..

The VS becomes a Spectre like the main story already has them do, but when you get the Eden Prime mission, you run into the VS there.. now an active Spectre. They're still suspicous of Shepard for working with Cerberus and wondering why you're investigating the same Prothean artifact they are. They warn you not to involve yourself.

Later you meet them again on Thessia. You don't meet them in the Coup. The Coup was a totally different (and better) mission before too. You meet them on Thessia, trying to uncover more Prothean data like you are. It turns out you discover Javik and that's when Ash/Kaidan shows up, with Kai Leng playing them against you.

Honestly, I personally thought ME1 was mostly unoriginal and and ME2 was badly done. Shepard being clinically dead and resurrected with a default male skeleton is the most idiotic **** I have to endure in the entire franchise. If it wasn't for the romance in ME3, I would have given up replaying the series a long time ago.

Here's some stir-fried Kai Leng for you~~

iBfJXMZg.jpg

but really, who came up with that name. It doesn't exactly sound like badass token Chinese villain name.

I do admit that there is bad elements with Me1 and Me2. There is no such thing as  a perfect video game. And If we can look at other bioware games, there will be enough material for a Cringe Moment threads for them as well.

Written it sounds really cool. I'm just not sure BW could pull that off in actual game.

Why not? Just curious.

I think they could have. I think it still followed (roughly) the order of quests that we already had. It just had more depth and length.

They just needed time. That was apparently the problem. I know Casey Hudson spoke about being bummed out about a cut they had to do and he asked EA to give more time.. but they wouldn't do it. And I think this was the cut in question. It involved a lot things to be slimmed down.

That's what I meant.... Well, mostly...

That and how confrontation with VS would play out. Previously you mentioned that you had to choose VS or Liara. I have nothing against any of them dying, but I must admit, I'm not the biggest fan of Virmire or Hawke/Warden choice. Or how they play out to be precise. I would rather have certain actions from the quest decide who survives, not simple "lol, pick one". Unfortunately I think that's how it would end. "Just pick one".

Of course all of that is simply my opinion. Someone else might say that those two choices were perfectly fine the way we had them.

Yeah, I'm not exactly sure how it played out, but I know what you mean. I think it had something to do with Leng putting the building in danger, and you could only save one. I bet it'd still play out like Virmire though. Kinda sounds like what they were going for.

I've come to a conclusion: If it's in ME3 it is most likely very cringy.

ME3 has its good elements.

The combat, Garrus and Tali were what I liked. Unfortunately Wrex was turned into an aggressive nutcase.

It was impossible not to cringe at EDI's new body and it was impossible to take her seriously. And Joker's lines didn't help. I feel bad for Seth Green having to read that rubbish.

Cerberus...well, don't get me started on Cerberus.

Kai Leng.

Previous important choices, for example the Rachni choice, were relegated to unimportant sidequests and e-mails.

All your efforts were translated into some numbers which decided whether Shepard breathed or not at the end.

Lots of horrible parts were added. Most blatantly forced upon the player were those horrible dreams.

Kai Leng.

Diana Allers was just ridiculous. I mean, "goodnight, and stay strong." What a cheesy line. And what was wrong with Emily Wong?

There weren't enough dialogue options (where was the option to tell Traynor and Liara to shut up and get out of my quarters?)

The whole premise to take Earth back was ridiculous. Palaven was on fire but apparently, because humans are speshul, it didn't matter because the slums of Earth were less on fire.

Also, "Don't make me an anchor!" (Whaaaat?)

Kai Leng

Before I forget, the origins of the Reapers were just plain stupid. The Reapers were made by an AI, which was made by immortal magical space-squids, to kill organics to stop them being killed by synthetics.

Space ninjas which don't fit into the setting.

A total lack of proper world-building.

Endless fetch quests and pinging in the irritating map mini game, which they somehow made worse from Mass Effect 2, to complete said fetch quests.

And one last thing, you guessed it, Kai Leng.

So yes, ME3 has some good points. But if they are completely overshadowed by the fact that there is tonnes of absolute garbage in comparison, the game developers have ****** it up.
But then again, most of the game's audience are too stupid to even notice these things, and only care about pretty graphics and rolling around like madmen while shooting things in the combat sections.

Well good points, no matter how bad ass, Kai Leng looked, he is poorly written.  For gaming ideas and archetypes, the Cerberus Phantom and the N7 Slayer and N7 Shadows are cool. Yes I do think that Shepard should have an optional sidequest to be one of the N7 from the Earth DLC. I do think one of ME3's strengths is it MP and its healthy variety of character kits and abilities. I do think that Indoctrination should have been more insidious than having 1 faction going stupid on us. Done Well, Indoctrination can provide both the unpredictablity and variety of enemies.

- Forced moping after the failure on Thessia. Like, regardless of how I want to roleplay Shepard s/he tells Joker off for telling a joke.

- Kai Lame. His character in general but especially for his ability to affect the IQ of others. Thane the master assassin demonstrating what not to do by jumping on his sword, Shepard who can't aim for **** anymore and just stands around doing nothing, etc. Also the way how everyone acted like Leng was a humongous threat (well, I guess his IQ lowering powers are kind of impressive) while I was like: "What's the big deal?" It's like BioWare assumed I would have read the books or something.

- Starbrat and everything he says. I was just waiting for my Renegade interruption.

- Reunion with Kaidan/Ashley in ME2. I actually like it how they are firm in their belief of Cerberus being a bag of ***** and don't just follow you like sheeps but, IMO, their interaction with Shepard came off as unnatural and forced. None of the dialogue said what I wanted to say and it seemed everything I said made them equally pissed off anyways. The whole scene seemed to be there just to create drama.

- Cerberus. The whole faction increasingly comes off as someone's fanfiction where it's used for whatever plot is wanted. In ME3, they went full retard. IMO Cerberus should have been a more political adversary, not this huge military opposition going all "Hurrr durr eeeeeevil".

Liara saying the next time we go to war, maybe the Alliance can spring for air support

Yeah, the first time I heard that I couldn't believe it. "Okay Liara. It doesn't matter that we fight longer in this war than your people. It doesn't matter that you decided to hide when we asked for help. We'll abandon everything else and come here because you asked nicely." *facepalm* I kinda don't fault Liara for this line. It's just another proof that - even though it had potential - Thessia questline was poorly executed.
