ME1 Liara behave like a teenage girl who have her first crush who is obsessed about being properly laid for the first time by this person she come to worship. And Shepard does sound unusually predatory by repetitively urging her that she is ready for her special time. Does this sound like you're trying to have sex with a person who have the emotional maturity of a 107 years old adult woman? Who also constantly being referred to as "girl" in the trilogy. 

 

I'm not digging at this because she's a hundred years old virgin but she display so many personality traits that was infantile. And what kind of 'romance' that basically have you taking advantage of an Asari who have the emotional capacity way less mature than all Asari in the game who are emotionally vulnerable and just lost a parent and yet very eager to sleep with a complete stranger that she have to do quick extranet research just to get to know you better.

 

 

Although maybe because it was godawful cringe-y because I did romance her with him. *shivers*

 

 

Jack's romance was the only straight BroShep romance that I enjoyed playing. The focus was on gaining her trust and getting to know her better and having Terminator Shepard at least showing some empathy. Even if she cried while cuddling him... which I think is really sweet since she finally let her guard down and allow herself to love someone. Their romance was even briefer in ME3 which is a bummer. 

 

Most sex scenes in ME3 are fade outs; Garrus Tali, Miranda, Jack, Cortez and Allers. The only one who did it nude was Liara while Ashley, Kaidan and Traynor (just shower scene) were all in their underwear. I only tolerate Kaidan's because my FemShep is smoking hot in her lacy lingerie but the rest.. meh.

 

I think Bioware are going to stick with some hint of nudity but fade out sex scenes in ME Andromeda. I think the animators died out in embarrassment, 

In regards to Liara: I find it interesting how far Liara falls outside of the stated social norms of her people, yet the game does little-to-nothing to acknowledge this fact and touch on it. To the best of my knowledge there isn't that moment in ME1 were Liara reflects on how she doesn't seem to see eye to eye with the rest of her species, most of whom are incredibly social creatures. Strikes me as a lost opportunity.

 

Maybe this is just me, but I prefer the romance scenes to end at making out as the camera fades to black. Not that I'm inherently adverse to sexual content but sex in ME or DA doesn't serve any kind of narrative purpose, it's there because fans. Having the scene end with a 'first kiss' is cliche'd because it's efficient and all you need to establish the relationship before moving on, back to the meat of the plot. Ultimately I don't like feeling as though I'm being pandered to, it makes me uneasy. That may just be me though.

Also my cringe for this thread is the un-nuanced hamfisted political commentary from ME1/ME3. For some reason in these games, politicians are all portrayed as craven, greedy, lazy, duplicitous, and ineffectual, and the game's attempts to comment on this are SO bad.

Actually I'm pretty sympathetic to the Krogans on this one. The Krogan wouldn't have been a threat to galactic stability if the Salarians didn't "uplift" them to fight the Rachni.

 

So yeah the Salarians used the genophage to fix their own mistakes.

The salarians did good in finding a solution to the rachni problem.

They and the Council screwed up however by allowing the krogan to join galactic society.

At least they were given a chance. They only have themselves to blame for blowing it.

The krogan don't deserve your sympathy. Seriously they don't. Look at Tuchanka. Blaming everyone else for their problems while they slowly bring about their own extinction.

It's pathetic really. And sad. The krogan are pathetic and sad. smh

The generation of Krogan living in the Reaper War era got a raw deal in that the majority were born long after the Krogan Rebellion. They're paying for the sins of their ancestors, so they sort of do have a legitimate gripe.

But the Krogan who actually fought the Koran Rebellion deserved it. They started the war and during the course of it had dropped asteroids on a couple Turian colonies.

I wanted my Shepard to laugh and tell her own joke. What bothered me is Shepard can yell at Joker, but can't yell at the asari for getting in Javik's face for no reason. What happens? The player gets some pathetic paragon interrupt. Of course the player can ignore it if he/she wants.

 

That whole Thessia thing was crap. The moment the asari says, Shepard that's my home, I have to go, until Shepard gets back to the CIC and uses the galaxy map to head to wherever.

 

I hate that we are forced to take her with us. I like Liara quite a bit, but her moaning the whole way pissed me off, even if it's understandable in a way.

They're running around killing each other on Tuchanka and for what? Clan dominance? Dominion over some irradiated rock? Pfffft please.

They reproduce at an unsustainable rate for any place other than Tuchanka. Everyone knows this including the krogan. Yet they make no effort to show the galaxy that they have a handle on it. Instead they just slaughter each other like savages. Because that's what they are. Savages. Powerful savages that breed like vermin.

So the genophage it is.

Very true.

Heck, the Rachni are more conservative with their numbers and better caretakers of their worlds than the Krogan ever were.

Still they invaded the galaxy and they were justly punished for it. But you don't hear the Queen winning about the hand she and her species was dealt, or at how cruel the rest of the species were to the Rachni as they were literally hunted to extinction.

Heck, most of the Citadel DLC was a cringe fest.

 

 

Yeah, I could understand the fans' wants for a more lighthearted piece of content, but the Citadel was way too over-the-top and meta for my liking.

 

It was like I wasn't spending time with my companions that I had come to know and care about over the trilogy, but rather a group of exaggerated caricatures who would make real unsubtle references to things my actual companions would do that could have been seen as quirky or humorous.  

 

 

The shooting contest with Garus? Very well done and meaningful. 

 

 

Garus and Zaeed constantly going on about booby-trapping the apartment? Very forced and jarring.

The only cringe moments which come to my mind is some of the cheesy main dialog parts of the first game, also repetitive enemy chatter such as "Enemies everywhere!"

Honestly, I think that the fans contain behavior cringier than the game ever could, some of which is demonstrated in this very thread.

Cringeworthy moments (nothing ending-related, that's a separate issue)

 

Thessia. Not the gameplay mission itself (that was pretty cool) or the asari on Thessia (they were awesome). But the lore of the mission, and Liara's crappy behavior during it.

 

The asari hid Prothean technology, technology we needed, and the asari were fully aware was needed to build the Crucible. But they hid it because it's their secret, and I'm supposed to accept it because "oh, it's just the asari". The turian's racial secret nearly scuttled the peace deal, but at least Tarquin and his son were making up for it. The salarian racial secrets are the reason they're supposed to be so bad, but with the asari, I'm just supposed to lump it.

 

During the mission, all of the non-Liara asari were great. The pilot was cool, Lieutenant Kurin was awesome, Outpost Tykus was fun (although she was a little too fanboy when I hit targets. Save the praise for when I'm done). But Liara herself was whiny, bratty, and downright insensitive. I can understand why Thessia means more to her than the other homeworlds, but seriously, the Alliance has been fighting the war longer than the asari, and she's stating they should be bringing air support, dying for her homeworld when the asari aren't dying for Earth? 

 

Then the part came when the asari were hiding the beacon. That was stuff we needed for the Crucible (they knew Prothean tech was needed), and they hid it because they couldn't comprehend not being the best species in the world. 

 

Then the fight (Kai Leng was great at making me hate him), and the fall of Thessia. The fall of a planet is great drama, but it was ruined by everyone treating it like it was the end of the world. Earth fell and it sucked but we moved on. Palaven was falling, and it was still sucky, but we moved on. Thessia fell and everyone is moping like it's the end of the world. I had to say it was all my fault, snap at Joker, not want to talk to EDI or Kaidan. 

 

My response to Tevos would have been "The cruel and unfortunate truth is, while the Reapers are focused on Thessia, we can regroup." And that response gives Paragon points. The Renegade response would be that the asari deserved their fate for hiding their secrets.
