I thought the weirdest thing about this quest is that the "wyvern" is a gurgut. The hell?
Gurguts are some sort of Wyvern-subclass if I remember correctly.

Oh, yeah, that is weird now that I think about it. I think it would have looked more impressive if it was a white wyvern, especially since there are so many other gurguts we kill on the way there.

Cousins, but wyverns are referred to as cousins of dragons, but those categories remain distinct. I think part of it has to do with Vivienne would never be caught dead saying the word "gurgut." So.
Those who gave her the fake heart are cruel for no reason at all.
Oh, there are reasons.
Petty, spiteful, or vindictive reasons, quite often, but reasons.
In regards to the Duel, Death may be the "nicer" option, considering what Vivienne says of him afterwards....
Eh... sure. Just gloss over the analysis I wrote earlier and call it 'no reason' or 'petty' *rolleyes*
Not all of us just click through hoping to garner a smile or a nod for following the obviously 'nice' path. The road to hell is paved with nice intentions, they say, and they're not always wrong. Vivienne certainly is no angel. We can and should debate what else she is but closing your eyes to that doesn't make your easy choice any better, morally -- you're just opting for a short-sighted approach.
"Let's **** up Viviennes magical anti-age potion with completely no way of knowing what the consequences to this action might be. The potion might now do nothing at all. But magic in this universe is kind of volatile, so it might kill her instead of de-aging her then. Or make her grow a third eye! Or cause a new magical plague instead. Hell, she even might be testing it on some innocent dude first. But hey, I'm trying to go for the long-sighted approach here. "
Can you see the problem here?

I stand corrected. It really was cousins and not sub-class. Sorry my bad.

Yes. But I see no less of a problem with simply giving her what she wants when she does not allow you to evaluate the plan and its consequences yourself! (Because that went so well last time we saw this happen right? In fact, I'd go so far as to say that whenever somebody does not allow you to see their cards, something bad is surely going to happen. They'd have no reason for obfuscation if their plans were beneficial for everybody.)
So it does come down to the potential consequences. I would like to see you point out where exactly my analysis of potential benefits and threats is erroneous, in your view.
I guess it just shows Vivienne is the complete anti-Anders ![]()
I haven't done this quest in awhile but I remember that if you do complete it and actually get her the correct snowy wyvern heart, though Bastien died anyway, somehow Vivienne was able to use your actions and status of Inquisitor to further ingratiate herself with Bastien's sister and the council of Heralds.
Basically, she used the Inquisitor to further her own political goals and if you call her out on it she smugly tells you its just part of the Game.
I dunno, it might be possible the Inquisitor is shrewd enough to realise s/he is being used and either refuse the quest or go for the fake heart. Maybe the fake one doesn't matter if she achieves her political goals anyway. I just wish I could remember *how* she accomplishes this exactly.

She uses Bastien's death to further the political goals of the Inquisition.
But the scenes with Bastien make it abundantly clear that she cared deeply for him.
