The last time I finished Mass Effect 3 was when it first came out (like many of you, I'm sure) ... and I was rather disheartened by the way the game left things (I chose to kill all the Reapers back then.)

After seeing the Andromeda trailer when it first came out, I got really nostalgic and I decided to go back and do a completely 1-3 play through.  This time around, however, for ME3 I had all sorts of DLC available.

I quite literally just finished the game (3:25AM on a weekday, yikes), after doing all the DLC and experiencing the Extended Cut for the first time.  My feelings could not be a more polar opposite to the first time around three years ago.

What an incredibly delightful experience... I even choked up at some parts (even after all this time) especially during the Citadel DLC.

I am re-starting again tomorrow for another full play through and with a very different Shepard in mind.

I am beyond excited for Andromeda... even though I understand I probably will not be seeing any of these incredible characters again.

If it's been a long time for you, I strongly suggest another play through.  By the time the credits rolled and I saw the Normandy take off after it had been repaired, I had nothing but a genuine smile and a satisfied mind.

I hope they managed to get Traynor's toothbrush fixed while they were at it!

Cheers.

-R

Yeah, BW worked hard that time to satisfy the people who had a baste taste in their mouths from the original endings, and in all its cheesyness CItadel was a fine piece of DLC, a worthy farewell present from the trilogy to the fans, with one last get-togheter with anyone in the crew.

ME3 evolved a lot during its support cycle, DLCs like Leviathan added a lot more depth to it and subtly tweaked some parts that were confusing before. If we take the mods created by fans, I'd say ME3 kinda managed to redeem itselft and become a well-made game, worthy of its title in the end.

And I might have to replay it again sometime in the near future

I had the exact same experience.

Finished ME3 once when it was first released and hadn't really touched it since. Hadn't played any of the DLC's either. Loved every minute of it when I did my second playthrough a while ago. Including the ending tbh. :)

Even if that were true, I can't bring myself to buy the DLCs just to check.

Broke down and started another playthrough a couple of weeks ago. I still like the gameplay and think BW did a marvelous job of streamlining many aspects of it, although the war assets stuff still feels like the same old resources grind from 1 and 2 (oh wait, it is). The less said about the ending, the better, but I'll cross that bridge when I get to it. At least it's not going to blindside me like the first playthrough.

I haven't stopped playing ME3MP for longer than a few(3-4 ala HOMM3 style) months at a time. Unfortunately that has also spoiled me to the SP side of things. I need the action of ME3MP to nourish me. SP feels like starvation. Sweet starvation, but I know I'll only last so long until I crack MP open again.

But maybe that's not a bad thing... *ponder*

The outrage about the ending got a bit hijacked by the people that wanted a happy ending, with blue babies and stuff. While I and a lot of others were just frustrated it didn't make sense. The DLC brought some sense to the ending, so yes, I liked the game with the extended cut and Leviathan stuff.

The Omega DLC isn't too good tough. Which is scarry, because the team that made it, is the same team responsible for ME:A.

The game plays so much better with DLC finally feels finished.

As far as the DLC goes:

Omega was clearly written by the new B team because oh my god was the writing terrible across the board. Hamfisted, down-your-throat, unnatural dialogue and a plot that amounts to "shoot more things". It's like a bad anime or something.

Leviathan is critical to the ending, it should have been there in the first place.

Citadel is fun but the problem is it doesn't actually /fit/ into the actual story. It feels like a lost episode of ME2. Hell, to get all possible characters into it, you have to do it right before the last mission, where there's huge time issue and it doesn't make any sense at all for everyone to be going on leave. If anything, literally everyone has been mobilized for the assault.

The ending still sucks ass because it's thematically and tonally detached from the overarching themes and setting. Also it is chock full of plotholes, THAT was never fixed.

I only ever play ME2, which can work as a standalone. The gameplay and misson/level design of ME1 is terrible and ME3's story starts out contrived then goes off the rails at the end.

Come on, we all know Citadel was clearly not ment to be part of the actual story in ME3, just a nice farewell to the trilogy. Most likely for players who already finished the game more than once and played the DLC as a stand alone.

Aside from the lack of the regular companions, I noticed little difference in the writing.

I'll leave that up to you to decide if that's a good thing or a bad thing

It was a poor attempt to justify a poor ending.  Cool maps though.

This is precisely why it is fun.  If I could play Citadel standalone, I would,

I was still disappointed by the ending, but I felt that overall I was so happy with the previous 98% of the trilogy, I could overlook the ending.

I did exacty the same about a month ago and couldn't help but marvel at the trilogy. It has it's rougher moments and I still kinda think the endgame could've been more complex but the journey was magnificent and I absolutely can't wait for andromeda.

There's nothing quite like finishing a trilogy run, DLC and all. Knocking around the galaxy with the great Mass Effect characters for 100+ hours is a great experience that films and television can't quite touch in the same way.

And a part of me does worry slightly about the quality of the writing in Andromeda. The writing in Omega was poor, but I did enjoy some aspects of the DLC, particularly Nyreen, despite how terribly she was placed within Omega's overarching narrative, as a character Nyreen was a quick favourite, whereas I found tired of Aria by the time I left Omega. Some of the locations as well, like the huge eezo mines were pretty impressive visually. Still, I can't let Omega influence my overall outlook on Andromeda. I'm excited for it, knowing that if it's a travesty a lot of people are suspecting (hoping for?) there will still be the Mass Effect trilogy to go back to and get all nostalgic eyed over (again).

over 5000 hours logged in the trilogy and still disappointed by the ending. No matter what choices you made during any of the three games it still ends the same way. Still hurting.

I treat Citadel  as an epilogue. I consider it, the actual ending. It's pure fan service and I love it.

Which is why I'm currently doing a Baldur's Gate run with all  DLC and my favorite mods  :D

I've been tempted to Start at ME1 and play the whole trilogy again. EA had a bad ending becasuse of the BossMan who overruled the game devs and picked a bad ending. First time I played I thought I was half way done because of the stupid universe readiness map which stays at 50% (unless multiplayer). I thought I would have to go galaxy to galaxy and destroy each reaper. Now that would be an ending!

If they couldn't reproduce the issues people were referring to, they weren't going to be fixed.
