Is Internet a Constant Must?

Hi everyone,

So a lot of people have had issues with transporting their custom world states. But I haven't seen anyone with my particular problem. I'm 30 hours in and the DAI has been (mostly) in accordance with my DA Origins and DA2 experience. Except suddenly it's not.

I checked the Dragon Age Keep and some of the choices I made (according to the keep) don't match up with what I actually did in the game....

So I've got a question... Does anyone know if you are required to have constant internet access in order for the non-default world status? That is, once you have imported the world status, and started a new game with a new character in DAI, do you still need internet access every time you play in order for the world to continue being the non-default one?

Cause I'm starting to suspect that losing internet access, or playing without it, makes the already started game go into default world status. Although my DA2 experience was in line with the choices made in DA1.

I might just be suffering from the gender bug in DAI. Can't go into more details without spoiling so I'll leave it at that.

Any input would be appreciated! I'm not about to spend another 30 hours to redo everything. It will have to wait until my 2nd play through... But wondering if anyone has had similar experience?

I'm currently unable to connect to the Dragon Age Keep in DAI but I don't want to sit around and wait to play the game when I've got the time to play now.

No. You only need to import the game once, right at the start. I played quite a lot of DAI without the Internet hooked up.

What you're going to have to do is input your choices manually into the Keep before importing your world state when you start your second playthrough. Personally, though, I would restart the game, as DAI can be quite long and 30 hours is not much. Some people spend hundreds of hours on this game.

Thanks for replying. I appreciate it.
That's the weird thing though, 99% of it is correct. So most of it does match up with my previous choices from the games.

What were those choices? Is it possible they are just the same as the default state? Or if you had multiple states set up, could it be matching a different state?

I'm afraid you're right, it's the default state.  :(  I thought it was following my choices from previous DA but they tricked me.
So I guess my custom world import failed... I don't understand the system, it said it successfully imported a custom world state when I started a new game with a new character.. yet it doesn't seem like it did import the customized world state.

I'm guessing what happened is your keep has your custom world state in it, but still has the default state to be the one exported, so when you linked your game up it "successfully" imported the default state.

Did you make sure to click the export button in the keep itself before importing (I think it's called export, I don't have it in front of me right now)? When you are importing that state, you can check its the correct one by the timestamp it gives you. Make sure it matches the one in the keep! You can also ask Varric some questions about Hawke when you get to Haven to check the information matches.

You can totally play without an internet connect.

Only need to be able to go on-line ONCE, to authenticate your game on the EA servers.

And again at new game start if you want to customize your worldstate.

I think what happened is that it imported your worldstate just fine, but once you select your character's background it gives you the choice of either choosing the default worldstate or your worldstate. You may have selected the default by mistake.

Or, if this is the same case as the other thread about Hawke's gender, then that is a bug. Sometimes the imported worldstate will show Hawke as male even if you picked female in the Keep.

I think you're right.  Cause when I checked the Keep very few things were inaccurate... so when I tried to use a custom world state, it used the default one. Cause my entire experience in DAI has been the default so far.  :(

#regrets and I feel like I'm at the point of no return. I'm sort of flying through the game (while trying to do all side quests) cause I want to see how the story goes.... but at the same time I do want to spend the 300+ hours that are available. But then I want to do it properly. So I might just continue with this playthrough then do my 'real' one next time. The playthrough I'm doing now, I'm not really focused on reading all the codex entries, etc. But i do want to collect them all. So 2nd playthrough it is.

I should have paid more attention...

DA2 was accurate to my DA1 experience, so not sure why I'm having such issues with DAI. *sigh* oh well. Now I have something to look forward to for my 2nd playthrough.

Well, that part's easy to answer. The DA2 and DAI import mechanisms are completely different, so it's natural for them to have different issues.DA2's problem was DA:O writing bad data into the saves, which can't happen with the Keep.
