I stand by that its a stupid mechanic. Mass Effect doesn't need them.
It's probably the one new mechanic Mass Effect definitely does need. For one, jetpacks allow the game to be a lot more vertical. That's the reason we're seeing them in so many other shooters; jetpacks are an easy (and generally quite fun) way to bring in a whole other dimension to the combat arena. For a cover-based shooter like Mass Effect, which has thus far been stuck with largely flat and static level design, the utility and freedom granted by jump jets would be incredibly beneficial.
More importantly, they serve as a much needed boon to maneuverability. Double jump became a staple in arena shooters because of how fun it made traversal. Again, Mass Effect in particular will need all the maneuverability it can get because it's gone open world. Do you remember how tiresome it was to get around Inquisition? If we don't want that to happen again, Mass Effect will need add of the traversal mechanics it can get..
They barely worked in Halo 5, which was also a blatant ripoff in the first place.
A blatant ripoff of what? What game has the same exact jetpack mechanics as Halo 5? I can't think of any. Individual moves may be derived from other games, but Halo 5's moveset was ultimately unique.
There is only one good thing I can say about Halo 5. The fight between Locke and Chief was awesome. Andromeda can get inspiration from that.
Wait, what? You found that short, boring fight between Chief and Locke was good?
