A videogame leaks website says they found the website of the developer mentioned in the original NeoGAF post, and after using the Internet Archive found a 2013 video of what seems to be a prototype mass relay.

http://nerdleaks.com...t-andromeda-243

Unconfirmed, but it looks like other people have found the same source for the original VFX video. I wonder if it's offline now? I've had no luck.

I was literally just moments away from posting this

It's pretty impressive detective work from that website (NerdLeaks) to find the developer who was supposedly the (accidental) source of the original video.

I mean, I've been searching for a few hours now and found nothing. Then to think of using the internet archive to look at older versions of the website, and using source code to find links to old videos... it's pretty crazy stuff.

We should keep in mind that the "mass relay" animation wasn't called that, and it might actually have nothing to do with ME Andromeda.

I don't like the idea of a Not Mass Relay.

I agree but they need to find some way for us to get around.

Interstellar travel is available through usual FTL.

Looks sufficiently alien to Milky Way/Reaper tech while also looking much more advanced. If it's real, I like it.

Well then...
Someone's getting fired if this is real too.

Why? If gives away nothing and it won't hurt sales.

You guys are so melodramatic.

Then why did we need relays in the Milky Way galaxy? Do you realize how huge these galaxies are? Even at FTL it would take years to get around.

Yeah, I'd much rather there just be the Mass Relays we know and love in Andromeda.

This isnt legit. After it was "leaked" on reddit, Shinobi said "this is fake" and people quickly figured out that it was a very early design concept for a relay from ME1 from like 2005 or something like that.

You mean, those Reaper made devices?...

Yes.

So... what about the implications of finding those devices in Andromeda?

Is the next game going to be named "Mass Effect: The Alliance Strikes Back"?

What implications? That the Reapers have been to other galaxies. That solves quite a few issues.

The Reapers can still be gone because they were dealt with in the Shepard Trilogy, but their legacy still remains.

Ask Sovereign about this. With 'average' distance between stars, cluster with hundreds of them will take no more than few weeks of travel.

Only a couple days actually. The ships in our cycle were capable of going 12-15 ly per day. A star cluster is usually no more than 30 light years across.

Yep. And here's the amazing thing - the MW is so huge that even travelling that fast, it would still take roughly 20 years to cross the diameter of the entire galaxy in a straight line.

If Andromeda does take place in one cluster, no relays are necessary. But I think it will actually take place in several, and we will discover an alien relay network. The concept art of that alien "relay" looking thing will probably be the link between clusters.

That's silly.

I said galaxy, not star cluster. The relays are for traveling huge distances. Distances that could take years via FTL.

And you definitely don't want to travel through our galaxy in a straight line. There are a lot of bad places you can end up on that path, especially with the drive discharge issue.

If we are only in the Helius Cluster this game, I wouldn't be surprised if late in the game we discover a Mass Relay or Mass Relay equivalent that is used for future games to expand into more of Andromeda like Mac Walters says he wants.

Wanting another galaxy to be just like ours, with the same tech and the same threats. The trilogy is over, the Reapers are gone, and the setting is changed. Deal with it. Nostalgia is stupid.

.

Obviously, lol. In another thread here I pointed out that to get back to Rannoch from Earth, the Quarians would actually have to travel a curved trajectory to avoid 10-15,000 Ly around the galactic core. With this course, it would take them nearly 40 years to reach Rannoch from Earth. Give or take a little.

And Andromeda is twice as big as the MW.

Point is, you can't explore a galaxy without a relay network or something conceptually equivalent (insanely fast FTL travel).

Well, you can explore the galaxy. Just not the whole galaxy.

What same threats? I already said the Reapers wouldn't be involved directly, just their tech.

I remember that conversation. We also said they would have to avoid the areas between the galactic arms.

Agreed.
