It could be the best game ever made and still be completely ruined by the fact that it's set in the worst galaxy in the universe.

It's good to see that there are still actual fans out there.

A person can be a fan and still criticizing (or being concerned) Bioware for things they didn't like in their previous games. Or maybe they don't like the direction Bioware went with the new galaxy.

A fan isn't only a person that is overexcited or have high expectations on Bioware's upcoming game.

Expectations? Well...

1.- Biggest Mass Effect ever!

--While exploring the 100+ planets, there will be a lack of Team dialogue and no Andromeda created background music (see DA:I. )

2.- Exploration Focus!

--Exploring with the Mako, we will encounter wonderful and awesome vistas  and the Mako will protect us from sleet, rain, snow,  volcanic ash and horrible predatory  monsters... all in silence.  We are IN the Mako, remember?

3.- Exploring on Foot!

--Leaving our beloved and colour customized Mako, we will hump over obstacles with our Jump Jets into an Outpost entrance or on top of it because we can. Also over escarpments, across steep ravines... maybe even across rivers.

--Inside Remnant Labs we will jump onto moving platforms or narrow walkways. We can jump up a floor or down one while fighting Remnant security forces

4.-Quests

--There will be timed missions and jumping puzzles to solve

--There will be NPC time sink quests to fill our hearts with joy.

4.-Main Story Arc

--Our hero will be the leader of a strong and powerful force and charged with finding and colonizing mankind's New Home. When seeking advanced blueprints or better weapons, this Imperialistic Authority cannot be delegated to the minions  but must be done by our August Person with two Companions that tag along.

--Such dreary and repetitious activity must continue to keep the forces of Chaos at bay.

--Good Tidings arrive in the form of  a "comfort person" which must be pursued at length.  The Imperial Authority of the August Person is denied casual R&R with a "spur of the moment choice".

5.- File Saves and Game Restarts

--There will be a limit on the number of save files. Naming those files as you wish is denied.

--A re-spawn from a Death will set us back to the start of the mission or if we are lucky, in the midst of the enemy.

6.-Character Creator

--Hear Ye, Hear Ye. Andromeda will import the wonderful Hair Styles from DA:I, including the famous facial mustaches.

--The Character Creator will be capable of a billion+ variations of facial sculptures

--Long hair is forbidden.

--Bio will also decree that body shaping our hero are for wusses and is denied

--Importing our character (face) in a 2nd+ playthrough is also denied.

--Tweaking our character while playing will be possible via a micro$transaction.

Rejoice because the game is super large, awesome, dazzling with deep characters, and engaging story, has adult content with digital romances, comes with pasties or underwear (pick one). Last but not least, the game is fun, easy to learn with controller controls poorly imported for the PC. Combat is hard and comes with a Multiplayer features designed for grinding when Leveling Up. Bio, also gave us a feature to bypass such tedium via micro$transactions.

Most of all, It's a Mass Effect Game.

A fan isn't only a person that is overexcited or have high expectations on Bioware's upcoming game.

But the problem is that some criticism is just downright unnecessary. Complaining about things out of their control and hating a game a year before it is even released doesn't help. I never said people can't criticize but sometimes it's just pointless. People need to be open to different perspectives and not bias.

Not high tbh. After the last few BioWare releases i'm not expecting to like the game at all. Inquisition was a total mess, DA2 was even worse. At least this is a Mass Effect title though, which seems to be Biowares favourite child. Dragon age has always played the second fiddle. Still, every new release and my opinion of BioWare seems to be diminished. I don't expect that to change here.

Yeah... I mean expecting a full polished game without rushed content, with decent animations, decent story, and consistent lore does seem like a somewhat far fetched idea at this point.

I think that gameplay will probably be okay, since they have the ME3 formula to build on. But aside from that? I don't expect too much, hopefully that will be enough to actually not be disappointed again...

With fans, the developer, the publisher and shareholders all trying to influence the game, I hope it isn't ruined by too many cooks?

[Sorry. I just had to make a reference to my avatar].

The only reason I may get excited about ME:A is because BioWare (and Bethesda) make games I want to play. Character customization. Good gameplay. Good story. Good characters. Fair skills, level and looting system. In essence, a AAA developer that produces something (sort of) resembling an old style RPG especially for a science fiction adventure. So, my expectation is going to be, "Well, it's the only game in town. I could buy this or stop playing video games."

It isn't out of their control. I call bullshit on all of that. That's like a company consistently sending out bullshit broken products and going "oh that was out of our control! One of our workers was a moron!" Nah. That don't cut it. No one is criticizing ME:A. We are criticizing the franchise and/or bioware. Past failures do in fact matter. They are relevant to future games. It is pretty funny to say people need to open our minds to different pov and calling them biased. Guess what? So are fanboys. We are all biased. My biased opinion relies on my direct experiences with their products. I have EVERY right to be cautious with low expectations. You are free to do w/e you want. I just hate the hype because it ultimately leaves me disappointed.

How would you prefer people respond to a topic specifically asking for their expectations at this point?

"The game is still a year away and I have no information, therefore I have good expectations."

If you wanted to just read a thread full of people just saying they're excited for MEA, I don't think these boards are going to give you what you want.

Gameplay wise its the game will be top-notch, ME3 had some the best third person gameplay. The story/writing on the other hand I'm expecting Lazarus project quality.

That's BS. DAI is the first Bioware game I've been unable to finish a second campaign in (my standard is more like 4-5 campaigns per game, so this is really bad), hoping that BW learned the lesson of quality over quantity and isn't going to repeat the mistakes of DAI all over again in MEA. The only way BW will ever figure out DAI was the worst of the DA games (overall, it was great for combat and character customization, imo, but was terrible for side content, which was 90% of the game) is if we tell them, over and over. You are free to disagree, but hoping someone's **** gets cutoff because of his opinion makes you a jackass.

Maybe it's wrong to hope, but I'd like more missions like Hastrom where we are fighting both the environment and the enemy.

Also, if they give us a wide caste of companions to pick from, I'd like more chances to feel like we need to select mission specialists a la the Suicide Mission and then whatever we do during the main thrust of the mission is aiding their select efforts. I know there are times during the Suicide Mission that I actually use my second or even third preferred companions load out, but I enjoy hearing the squad chatter and envisioning what the rest of my team is doing on the mission.

I'm expecting a game that's disappointing, but not bad. Like Inquisition.

^

but realistically i'm expecting this to be a failed attempt to return to their "roots" :')

Expecting much is a double edged sword. And I know, in my case, it has ups and downs. I love the waiting, the speculation, high hopes for game itself, and on the other hand I know I'll always be somewhat dissapointed when the actual game comes. I's not a bad thing for me - it's just the way it is. I mean if ME:A won't be downright BAD, there are always things I'll enjoy, and things I won't. It applies to every game out there that I ever played.

So my high expectations apply to just hoping for the best to happen. Lots of ups, and not too many downs I'd say ;) I just like to think positive.

It's just a game - don't get me wrong, I love the ME trilogy, I'm a die hard fan for the series, and maybe that's the reason I have ambivalent feelings about it - I want to expect much, I want all the good stuff, but I know that there is a chance I won't get any, so I just choose the middle ground - realism (POSITIVE, but still realism) :)

Would retconning the ending of the original trilogy really be beyond their comfort zone, though? I could just as well argue that if their ending was considered The Bees' Knees, The Bestest Thing Since Bestest Things were Invented or Orgasmotron, they'd probably still leave the Milky Way if that ending had such widely different backdrops in its varying aftermaths. Then, retconning it would be a total crime, because we can't have our Orgasmotron erased. People would still just complain that BioWare doesn't care about story choices if they just retroactively cancel them out.

Well yeah, they do have the problem that was created by whoever was in charge and thought that it would be a great idea to go for

a dramatic "Torch the Franchise and Run" type ending.

The fact that it was terrible according to most just added a sting to the entire thing.

Also, if they give us a wide caste of companions to pick from,

Snip

                                                                                       <<<<<<<<<<(0)>>>>>>>>>>

Is our dastardly hero + six companions enough? The voice dialogue options = 2 for the hero + six companions = 8 voice actors minimum + NPC dialogue voice overs.

The total number of combinations of two companions from a group of six is 15

The math is as follows:

C(n,k) =  n! / k! (n-k)! = 6! / 2! (6-2)! = 6! / 2! * 4! = 720 / 2 * 24 = 720 / 48 = 15

Still, for those that insist on many romance options, six may not be enough.

To be honest I expect it to have around the same amount of companions DAI did. So that's 9. If they decide to do less than 8 would be a good settling number. As for romance I think they can take what DAI did add a few advisor romances to make it even out in the romance department especially if they do even less companions. I had a lot of criticism over DAI's story telling and main campaign, but their were a lot of romances, mostly good. So hopefully ME team takes notice of that. I would really like to see romances get better and expanded upon.

Have we reached a point where we say that people who post "Andromeda" are spelling it wrong?

Not yet? Okay, but imma start doing it soon, anyway.
