This is Bioware's time to shine again.

They've taken the time they needed to make things right. They have learnt from their past mistakes.

When the game comes out, they'll have absolute responsability if it sucks. No excuses.

But we also know what they are capable of. They brought the Mass Effect universe to us with a ****** BADASS TRILOGY.

They need this game to kick ass, and I'm sure they'll make this new entry as epic as possible.

We are probably a year from release, but I cannot wait to see how is it going to look like. I want to lose myself in Andromeda and have a ****** awesome time playing it. It's not gonna be a perfect game, but none of the previous ones were either.

Have we reached a point where we say that people who post "Andromeda" are spelling it wrong?

Not yet? Okay, but imma start doing it soon, anyway.

Wait, what's wrong with Andrómeda?

I get the feeling I missed a joke somewhere

The only reason I may get excited about ME:A is because BioWare (and Bethesda) make games I want to play. Character customization. Good gameplay. Good story. Good characters. Fair skills, level and looting system. In essence, a AAA developer that produces something (sort of) resembling an old style RPG especially for a science fiction adventure. So, my expectation is going to be, "Well, it's the only game in town. I could buy this or stop playing video games."

This is mostly true for me too.  They have always been my first choice in game purchase.  Love FA4 and I'm still enjoying DAi. Though there are a few others I have fun playing like Borderland, Dragon Dogma and some others, they are not in the top 5 love it game pile.

I loved ME 1,2 and 3 till the end and all of their older games (KOTOR is still my #1 game), so I'm hoping for a good game with the characters, story, custom characterization and hopefully some choices that matter and some that are just interesting personal decision choices.  :)

But I'll probably wait till it's out and I find out what ending choices we have (Yes, I also read the ending of books before buying them unless I trust the author and ME3 messed that trust up).

Not sure I can stop playing, my husband says I have an addiction, so I would say if I decide not to buy it I'll just keep playing my old BW games that are fun and make me cry and laugh, die or live depending on choices made throughout the game and my old FA games until a new one comes out over there.

..... unless I trust the author and ME3 messed that trust up.

Hi mopotter,

After a lot of thought, and believe me I've given this a lot of thought, the ME-3 ending choices did not mess up my 'trust' in BW's ability to deliver a really good game in the ME franchise, because I look at how pleased I still am with the overall body of work, and all the aspects that hit the right note for me. Please understand that I'm just responding from my heart and not being critical of those who are expressing their worries and concerns (esp. with DA:1). So long as ME:A stays true to the ME 'environment', I don't feel worried.

I apologize if I sound rambling here. I was looking up some synonyms that better describe the nuances of what I expect, such as: backdrop, setting, context, atmosphere, surroundings, and stomping grounds. Of course, the Milky Way is the ol' stomping grounds. I'm looking for the familiar 'feel' of the game and I think they will hit this mark, even if doesn't 'blow me away' like my first experience with the beginning of ME, the opening sequence to ME-2, and the suicide mission. JM2C. I just can't worry about staff changes either.

Very well said my friend. BTW there is no such thing as perfect. Everyone and everything has flaws. Perfect is an idea. A dream.

An obvious bug and glaring unoptimization that could have been fixed if Bioware put effort into things.

Hopefully better than ME3. That was the only game in the trilogy I could only stomach one playthrough and not because of the endings.

I have no expectations, because there's nothing substantive out other than the occasional leak.

I hope it will be enjoyable.

Is our dastardly hero + six companions enough? The voice dialogue options = 2 for the hero + six companions = 8 voice actors minimum + NPC dialogue voice overs.

The total number of combinations of two companions from a group of six is 15

The math is as follows:
C(n,k) = n! / k! (n-k)! = 6! / 2! (6-2)! = 6! / 2! * 4! = 720 / 2 * 24 = 720 / 48 = 15

Still, for those that insist on many romance options, six may not be enough.

You took the simple conservative option. Some relations include more than two. Allegiances / groups etc. so back to the drawing board. Answer = 720 (we can exclude the inifinity option with people liking themselves with bsn aliases). (They seem to be overrepresented in this specific forum.)

I have no real expectations for ME:A at this point due to the lack of information provided to date. My interest at present is mainly measuring the effectiveness of the marketing and social media management of the brand in engaging with fans and avoiding anticipation anxiety/apathy.

With regards BioWare, I reset any brand attachments I had built up from products produced under the executive leadership of Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk.  I now use the same strategies I use in purchasing from other developers, (Do not pre-order and play a demo if available). DA:I was the first BioWare RPG I did not buy into, it was OK but didn't engage with me enough to buy into. ME:A has an advantage over Dragon Age because I am more of a Sci Fi fan than I am of fantasy worlds.

The books part. Though really, it's all the same thing except for the self-insert factor of games.

I used to have high expectations of Bioware. Now I tend to have really low expectations. They failed to live up to their own hyper with inquisition , ME2 and ME3. Lets just say I wont pre order and will wait till well after release to play. Provided it does not suck bad I will get it after launch probably pre owned. I owe BW nothing and feel they owe me for 3 less than Stella (dare I say mediocre) games.

I don't mind.  It's just one of those things.  It's important to me not to be depressed every time I play a video game.  I don't mind dying some times but I don't like the body and smile trying to tell me Shepard survived.

I started with the series for the 360 when ME1 came out and played continuously until finishing ME3 a couple of times trying to see if I had missed the survival ending mentioned in the guide book.  Then I put the game up and moved on to something else.  When I heard about the mod months later I bought the series for the pc.  I do love the series.  With the pc version I got the die or actually live options and can continue to play it until I can't play any more.    :)   No jedi smile, no burnt body.  Live or Die.

I'm the same, only for me, the default is "trust". I trust an unknown author unless I have a reason to be suspicious. I've acquired a pretty good nose for spotting stuff I don't like from a blurb. Having said that, I had reasons to be suspicious about ME from ME2 onwards, but I find it hard to leave multi-volume epics unfinished once the first volume has hooked me. I expected ME3 (not necessarily the ending) to be against my thematic preferences but even so, it turned out worse than I expected in that *and* I felt betrayed by several aspects of the ending.

So, I'm with you in making the decision to buy MEA or not only after I know its ending. The ME team has managed to lose that default trust I extend to most creators of stories after having successfully hooked me, and that's a pretty rare, and pretty bad thing.

As for my expectations for MEA, among other things, I expect Mac Walters' preconceptions and prejudices to prevail over common sense and real knowledge again, and the attitude that SF equals fantasy in space to continue. I'll probably be better off spending my time reading books and waiting for the next DA game or Bioware's new IP, but we'll see.
