You missed the "unless I trust the author" part, didn't you?   ;)

Saw it, but I couldn't imagine doing that for a new author, or bothering with a second book if I didn't like the first one.

But why would I want to buy a book on blind faith?   Now I usually take recommendations from people I know.  Haven't had to check the ending in years.  More people do it than you would think. I also re-read books Some once a year.  Knowing how it ends doesn't destroy the pleasure I get from reading it.  Then again, I don't like surprise parties either. :)  Or April 1.

Back on topic, sorry.    My expectations are more hope for the best but don't buy it till I know the worst.  One person "worst" may not be mine so I'm taking a wait and see attitude.

I'm the same, only for me, the default is "trust". I trust an unknown author unless I have a reason to be suspicious. I've acquired a pretty good nose for spotting stuff I don't like from a blurb. Having said that, I had reasons to be suspicious about ME from ME2 onwards, but I find it hard to leave multi-volume epics unfinished once the first volume has hooked me. I expected ME3 (not necessarily the ending) to be against my thematic preferences but even so, it turned out worse than I expected in that *and* I felt betrayed by several aspects of the ending.

So, I'm with you in making the decision to buy MEA or not only after I know its ending. The ME team has managed to lose that default trust I extend to most creators of stories after having successfully hooked me, and that's a pretty rare, and pretty bad thing.

As for my expectations for MEA, among other things, I expect Mac Walters' preconceptions and prejudices to prevail over common sense and real knowledge again, and the attitude that SF equals fantasy in space to continue. I'll probably be better off spending my time reading books and waiting for the next DA game or Bioware's new IP, but we'll see.

Sounds good.  I'm spending my time between replaying DAI (not perfect but I enjoy it); FA4 (I've become obsessed with this, may never totally finish it like Skyrim I get side tracked), reading something recommended to me and plan on replaying Jade Empire.  :)  Multi tasking or inability to focus.  Not sure which.

Can you recommend Jade Empire? I found it interesting when it came out but it wasn't available for the PC, and I never got around to it later.

ME3 gave me a bloody nose in its horrible car crash. Since then i was distinctly unimpressed with the first frostbite game DAI. So overall my expectations are rather low.

As long as the story doesn't drive me running for the hills though i'll probably pick it up at some point, earlier if the released plot and character info excites me.

I love Jade Empire.  I got it for the xbox originally, but I did download it for the pc a few months ago.

It's one of the games in my keep forever pile.  I have played every few years since it came out.  Story is great and if you haven't ever seen the spoilers, don't look.  :)  Even after playing it as many times as I have, I still have a wow moment.   I found the characters very entertaining and well done and I'm a dialogue fan so JE satisified all my needs.   Of course there are some issues, only the male characters gets the option for a threesome black screen, but yeah, I would recommend it.  Loved Sky and his humor, and enjoyed Silk Fox.

Kang the Mad!  Kang the Mad!

Take the craziest aspects of Dagna and Mordin, then distill it a few times, and you might get a companion close to as nuts as he was  :D
