I've a simple question to pose to you good folks. I was wondering how, in the event that you choose not to kill Loghain at the Landsmeet with a Hardened Alistair marrying Anora, who shows up in your camp after you've defeated the Archdemon and finished to coronation. Will only Loghain be there or will it be back to having Alistair or are both of them there? I ask because I'm crafting my own canon in which I want to do Return to Ostagar after the Archdemon falls and I really feel Alistair should be there. I also want to spare Loghain, however, because my Human Noble Warden feels he was not fully to blame for all the horrible things that had been done (coughcoughRendonHowecoughcough).

On a side note, keeping Loghain alive makes for a much more dramatic and impactful decision at a certain point in Dragon Age 3. I'm sure most of you know which one I speak of. But I don't know if I want to sacrifice giving Alistair a chance to give Duncan and Cailan a proper goodbye. Alas, this is the quandary I find myself in. Please, can someone help me here?

Pretty sure it'd be Loghain but I haven't verified it myself.

So either take Alistair before the Landsmeet, or take Loghain.  He has lines in that DLC and it's interesting to take him along at least once in your DAO adventures, especially given the letters you find in Cailan's chest.  You could reload an earlier save once you've defeated the archdemon and go with Alistair anyway, just for your own headcanon I guess.

Loghain is great in DAI and worth keeping alive in one of your worlds.  If Alistair is King then you get to enjoy both characters in DAI, and it wouldn't be worth ruining that in DAI for a handful of lines at Ostagar...imo.

Hrmm... what I might do then is go do RtO right before that Landsmeet and then pretend it all happened after the fact. One last adventure for King Alistair with his best friend the Warden and whatnot. XD

I heard that originally you could have both in your party, that would have been so great...planning a DAO run would be so much easier!

It will be Loghain. Once you recruit him, you will lose Alistair.

If you spare Loghain, I don't think Alistair considers you a friend anymore.

Loghain, and you can do only DLC content after the post-coronation, Ostagar and Warden's Keep, not sure about Shale, I never tried to start her content after the end game.

Which sucks for me. I don't want Alistair to hate me after everything we went through, but I want to give Loghain a chance to redeem himself. And Loghain's role in Inquisition, imo, is the best of the three Warden allies.

If you recruit Loghain, Alistair will leave and this breaks your friendship, but if Loghain kills the archdemon then Alistair will tell you that at least it was justice as Loghain is now dead so you can be friends once again.

Alistair is one of the best companions and characters in DA, but he's childish and whiny.

But I don't want Loghain to die killing the Archdemon, that's too easy a redemption for him.

Maybe years later Alistair will see Loghain actually making an effort to redeem himself, and if not that then helping the Inquisition save the Wardens from themselves. Then maybe he can understand and forgive my Warden's decision.

As I recall, Alistair is still angry in DA2 if you let Loghain alive when you meet him with Hawke and bring Aveline with you.

Not sure if he's still angry in DA:I.

Alistair won't see that as he will be elsewhere (he isn't in DAI in such a way he crosses paths with Loghain).  However, if you have Loghain in the game helping the Inquistion, he (Loghain) has an excellent cameo.

May as well face it, the freindship is destroyed.  When he leaves in Origins, Alistair isn't just running away from the Wardens, he's running away from the PC.  Annoying, but that's the gist of it.

Make him king and sacrifice Loghain. That way you will be upgraded to frenemies.

We never hear about drunk Alistair again after DA2, so that seems unlikely.

He writes letters for Teagan. Has good penmanship... even when drunk.

edit: Actually, that's more pathetic than sitting in a bar.

I should have made it explicit that my post assumes King Alistair. As a King he would definitely know about Loghain's whereabouts from Anora or hear about the events following Here Lies the Abyss, if the Wardens ally with the Inquisition.

Heh, in my main playthrough I've sacrificed both my Dalish Warden and my Hawke, leaving Loghain alive and well and Alistair a useless drunk. I have lots of in-game rationale and the decisions are all made in-character, but I also just can't stand not having him around.

I'm not comfortable with being overshadowed. Loghain would be the one who is remembered for slaying the archdemon.

To be honest, he should overshadow you anyway. National hero for 30 years, and been spreading dark rumors about you everywhere for a year. That's hard to turn back around in a country where the only working media is word of mouth. Unless you kill him at the Landsmeet, the common-folk of Ferelden is more likely to remember him as the one who ended the Blight than you no matter what happens. And that's ignoring how uncomfortable your average Fereldan would be with actually crediting an elf, dwarf or mage with the salvation of his/her country in the first place.

They got over it pretty quick. Adoring crowd waiting outside and all.
