I am now at the point where my next Priority mission is Thessia.  According to the Checklist I am following this would be a good time to do the shore leave.  However I want to do the party after Horizon.  Is it safe to do this mission now and do the party later or am I locked into the party?

Also I have read that I must do Thessia and Horizon back to back if I want to save Miranda.  Does that mean absolutely no side missions?  I will have two remaining at that point:  N7: Communications Hub and Cerberus Ciphers.

So far my game has gone much the way I wanted it, I have saved everyone who can be saved,  and gotten the Geth and Quarians to bury the hatchet.  The only things that I missed doing was save Karahee and notify the Assiri Widow (I was sure that I read the right data pad, but I must have missed it).  So I don't want to mess anything up with my timing of the Shore Leave, Party and Miranda

Citadel DLC is in 3 chunks.  When you begin you do a mission that will last over an hour, during which you can't leave.  When it's done you can go back to the Normandy and continue your game, and travel back and meet up with characters at your leisure.

Then the party will start when you choose it to, and once it does it's locked in until it's over.  I'd recommend doing it in chunks as doing the whole thing in one go is quite long.

As for doing anything between Thessia and Horizon, I honestly don't know I'm afraid.  I haven't saved Miranda yet, but I believe it's to do with not dumping her if you're in a relationship, and warning her about Kai Leng when you chat to her in the Spectre room at the Citadel.

Thanks.  Can you break down the chunks for me?  I do know that there is a visit to the apartment, a place where Shepard gets ambushed, a formal occasion and a fight for the Normandy.  I guess this also unlocks the Citadel Arena?

To tell the truth OP, in most pts I do missions right after they appear, so it's certain I did N7: Communication Hub between Thessia and Horizon. Miranda survived for sure in those, since I had her die on Horizon only once, when I wanted her to die.

You also have to give her Alliance resources.

You start by getting ambushed, that leads to the 'mission' part of the game that you can't stop until the end.  It's during the mission that the formal occasion and fight for the Normandy occurs.  I'd recommend making sure your LI is locked in before you start.

Then you're in the apartment and free to leave, or stay and meet up with folk.  You can go back whenever you like to keep meeting people and do arena matches.

Then you can activate the party whenever you like, but make sure you met up with everyone first so that they'll be able to attend.  You choose at a console who to invite, then when it's done you go back to the Normandy.  I leave that until after Horizon so Miranda can attend (tho that didn't work, she died) as she won't attend before that moment.

I'd actually do Horizon, Omega DLC, then the Citadel party.  I start Citadel itself as soon as my LI locks in as I prefer to space it out with the regular missions.

Citadel has a mission segment, lots of meet ups with crew mates, and a party.

The mission is probably best done, from an emotional point of view, right after Rannoch if you made peace between the Quarians and Geth, since it is a light hearted mission and you should be feeling good at that time.

The mission has several segments, but don't worry about what they are. Once you go to Admiral Anderson's apartment you will start the mission and will be forced to finish it before you can do anything else.

Once the mission is done, you will start receiving emails from your crew asking to meet with you. Meetings can either occur on the Sunset Strip or in the apartment. You can choose to meet with whoever you want or to skip meeting some people if you wish.

You will also be told that you should hold a party. You will have the option of when to start the party by hitting the "start party" button. It is best to have the party after Horizon/Sanctuary.

For Miranda to show up in the dlc, Horizon has to be completed with her alive.

The gameplay portion can be done anytime after Citadel coup.

-You can do N7 missions whenever. Cronos Station after Horizon is the Point of No Return, while Thessia then Horizon begins the Final Arc (but not a PONR).

N7 missions count as a 'mission' but that normally doesn't matter.

-There are three 'sections' to Citadel DLC. You can do them all at once, or spread out. It feels most bizarre or fancanon 'post-game' if you do them all at once, while it feels most natural if spread out in particular wars. I will describe them. Citadel DLC can only be done after the Citadel Coup but for reasons I'll describe, I'd most of the time suggest doing it after Rannoch, perhaps right after Rannoch.

1)The Story: Shepard goes on a shore leave between missions (something he technically always does, but this is of a relatively relaxing sort), and gets pulled into a conspiracy. This is 4 missions long, chained, with a temporary 'hub'. If you want the most characters involved, you always have Liara, James and EDI, need Javik's DLC recruitment mission done, Garrus alive, Virmire Survivor brought on the Normandy, and Tali picked up from the Rannoch Arc. Have your romance secured, especially if they're a Normandy Character (VS, Liara, Garrus, Tali).

2)The Silversun Strip: After the main story of the DLC, you get prompts to start an apartment party. Don't do it. In fact, save it for the last thing you ever do before Cronos Station, IMO. Get the party supplies, sure, but don't trigger the party. You now get full access to the Silversun Strip hub. You can go to the casino for some funs. Or go to the arcade for some funs with some fluff or combat mod (not required) prizes. Or go to the arena for combat rewards and if you do the sidemissions it provides, a questline with a pretty cool result. You have an apartment that you can customize a little. You can invite characters over to the apartment or go out on dates.

The visits in this section depend on whether you're 'done' the main part of characters' stories in the main game. For example, the latest case is getting Miranda's stuff done on Horizon. If you don't, then she won't be available in Citadel DLC.

The visits also depend on 'breaks' of missions before getting more emails to trigger them. Main story missions (like Thessia) count as missions. Secondary story missions (like Monastery) count as missions. N7 missions count as missions. But also Arena matches count as missions (so you can just rush back and forth if you want to do the DLC all at once).

For best story fluidity, I now consider it very valid to save at least one or two of the optional story missions (like Monastery, Ex-Cerberus, Krogan Arc ones if you saved it for this one) to fill up some of the time. There is also the Leviathan DLC arc, and of course the main missions Thessia and Horizon. You can head back to the Strip every 1-2 missions to 'relax' on top of the more stressful environments of the rest of the main game Citadel.

3)Once everything, EVERYTHING is done, trigger the party. This means all sidemissions. This means all Citadel DLC visits. This means doing everything you want done in the Strip, including the Arena questline if you want. This means all N7 missions. Etc. Back to the Miranda example, you need to keep her alive from Horizon then get her email then have her 2 visits in the DLC. Technically you don't need those two visits, but again, it works better for story fluidity. You can actually save visits for post-Party, I just don't think the feeling of the DLC works better that way.

The main thing to remember with Citadel DLC is that its like a more relaxing layer on top of the stresses Shepard is going through in the main game (+ other DLCs). Having him spend too much time in this DLC feels to me like he's under some bizarre escape from it all, but spreading it out feels to me more that he's just taking some time once in a while, while keeping the Normandy in top shape for the war, to wind down a little. Like Shepard can kill the Rannoch Reaper then consider 'Hey, it really would be a good idea to take that suggestion to check out the Strip', or fight the Banshees in the Monastery and go 'Man, I hated those things, I wonder if I can kill some in the Arena to blow off some steam, maybe meet Jack up since she said she'd be there'.

Then at the end of it all, the Party happens because everyone knows this may be the only chance that so many people Shepard knows can spend time with him and/or together.

After the Party, head off into Cronos Station and then the ending sections.

I don't believe it is 'supposed' to happen on one shore leave. I think it works very well that:

1)Shepard tries a more relaxing shore leave but is interrupted by the DLC's conspiracy plot.

2)Shepard ties to continue and have a more enjoyable shore leave, and does so successfully for a bit, but then carries on with other missions.

3)The Silversun Strip remains as a place Shepard can consider a temporary second home as he does other stuff.

4)Finally, having both exhausted all other non-Citadel-DLC content he had to do, and all other Citadel DLC stuff he could have done, the Party happens and everyone moves off into the conclusion of the story..

I think this is valid, is all. I think the Strip can exist as a layer on top of the other Citadel (main game) areas just as well as it can be its own more secluded DLC area. Remember that Shepard actually goes on shore leaves all the time, at least if you try to do all the Citadel area content. Its canonical that the Normandy checks in the Citadel pretty frequently. The DLC's main plot is just about continuing/finishing retrofits - thus a longer shore leave, presumably; forcing a consideration to actually 'relax' this time. But once the Strip is available, Shepard is given various reasons to nor ignore the area but use it as a temporary form of escape from the chaos outside the Citadel. I can go to Ex-Cerberus mission, hear Kaidan be disturbed about TIM, then go to the Strip with him to take his mind off that stuff for a bit, before heading back into the fray for some more missions/DLCs.

I think my way makes some sense considering that it would be pretty ridiculous that so many characters just happen to be on the Strip to meet Shepard 'all at once'. Sure you can do this, just as you can store up, in a lesser way, visits to get done on the two versions of the main Citadel hub, but it wouldn't make as much narrative sense to me. Its better to get Shepard to go to the Citadel (main or Strip or both) every couple of missions, especially when they involve the Normandy shooting or getting shot by the enemy. While there, it takes at least hours to days to check over the ship, so insert Citadel/Citadel DLC events of scattered sorts.

Yes, I like to think of it as every time Shep visits the Citadel he/she has the chance to catch up with someone.   The Normandy can get repairs and supplies and Shep can go relax for a bit.

Plus I like to space things out, too much combat or too much chatting all at once gets boring, so I do things in little bite sized pieces if the game will let me.  That's why doing the party after Omega is nice for me as I've just spent 2 and a half hours shooting Cerberus guys with Aria and need a break.

Oh, I didn't want to sound like my way was the right way (if that's how what I wrote sounded). What you wrote definitely makes a lot of sense. I just found out - after trying it different ways - that I prefer to play whole DLC (with meetings and party) all at once.

Thanks.  All these comments really helped.  I have done all the preparatory work on Miranda.  I have lost Legion, Mordin and Thane, but everyone else is alive.  Ashley was seconded to Hackett for war assets.  You get the mission early, but I didn't do it because I didn't want to trigger it early, but have the apartment to visit every time I went to the Citadel might have been nice.

As an aside I think Ashley and Javik would make an interesting pair as they have similar views of other species.

Before this what would be the best allocation for my abilities and powers?  My Shepard is a level 58 Adept.  All the basic powers are maxed.  I have 3 bars of fitness and 5 bars in Slam.  I am thinking about reallocating points to max out slam and change slam to power drain because the guides say to have something that will drain shields.  I don't think I can change any of the other powers.  Any suggestions?

I'd say use whatever you feel like.

It is true that most of the mission part enemies have shields*, but I never really absolutely needed Energy drain. (Quick!) BioExplosions work just as well for the most part.

The very first and last mission parts are actually pretty hard, so you might want to get to rank 4 of fitness for the shield/health upgrade. (But you'll reach rank 60 before the end of the missions anyway, so that shouldn't be a problem.)

All Enemies have either Shields/Barriers or Armour, some have both. So Slam will be somewhat useless for the most part. Which doesn't mean that it isn't fun. Its quick cooldown may actually make it more beneficial than some other powers in certain circumstances.

Something to note is that you only have a pistol for the first section of the DLC.  So upgrade your offensive biotic abilities as they're pretty useful.

Use reave. The best power in the game. I recently did that portion of the dlc on insanity mode using reave only. excellent.

I would recommend inviting Ashley to the party next time. I was surprised to see that side of her :)

I am replying late, but I have never seen this as a requirement to save Miranda.  In fact just did Thessia -> Ontarom -> Horizon and saved her.  Can't recall offhand how many missions I have ever done between Thessia and Horizon, but may have done at least Omega and or Citadel (the mission itself) before it, but would have to dive through saves to be certain.

Also it was commonly reported that you needed to view the email about Leng, but I don't think that is a real requirement.  You do need to unlock the email by asking Anderson about him after the coup via a left wheel dialogue option though.  You should automatically warn Miranda when you talk to her in the Spectre office if you do that.

Yeah, I once wanted to not warn Miranda about Kai Leng, but Shepard still did it, even without reading the email.
