There doesn't seem to be any way to open it. Cut content, decoration? or have I forgotten something?

I believe that is the exit of the Dead Hand puzzle room. The entrance is back towards Fens Camp, but when going away from the camp, bear right/east instead of left towards the Fens. You'll see a giant stone hand.

EDIT: Got east and north swapped around.

Yeah, if you do the Elfy puzzle, the gate brings you out behind Ser What'shisname's back.

I could only finish that puzzle in keyboard mode. It's too difficult to get a decent camera angle to spread out your characters there. Sometimes they don't stay put.

I have to spam the hold key on each person to get them to stay. It's so annoying. Despite that, I do actually quite like this puzzle.

Ser Hildebrandt is one of the targets of Cassandra's Unfinished Business quest.

And, yeah, conceptually the Dead Hand puzzle is fine. But I can't stand fighting the interface rather than the puzzle. At least in a jumping puzzle the thing we're asking the PC to do is supposed to be difficult for the PC to do. I'd love to see the beta test reports on this one.
