So we don't spend hours using sliders and ending up with a main character that looks nothing like us.
Look at this video
Why aren't companies pushing this technology? I think you can do it in Pro Evolution Soccer.
it has potential. it would be interesting if Bioware does decide to use that idea and perfect it. I would love to see it to be used in future games and the re-makes of their older games as well.

Unless it's the only way to create character, then I'm not against it.
No. Don't do it.
Just look up the Face scanning from the NBA games. You'll see how flawed that sort of mechanic is.
The reason your video above probably looks as good as it does is that the face is completely Static. It's eyes, Mouth, and Facial features will not move. So if you think "oh wow I'm in the game' it'll kinda fall apart the first time you talk to the npcs. Unless your character is a silent and emotionless being, then it'll probably work. Though asking them to make a silent protagonist, when that has been phased out of Star Wars, Dragon Age, and was never even a part of Mass Effect, is probably out of the question.
The face looked at little odd to me, would have liked to have seen what it would have looked like in dialogue. I would not mind seeing this tech in games, as long as they still kept a normal CC so you can still make you own.
I would gladly trade this option for one meaningful side quest.
This is kind of...not good. If you can't create an idealized form of yourself in the CC then you're either doing it wrong or the character creator sucks to begin with.
No. It wouldn't be a good idea.
Yes, Biower pls
But seriously, I think it wouldn't work well in the cutscenes, when protagonist's face need to reflect some emotions.
Have to admit I'd prefer to create my own charcters and RP them using the CC options with tweaks here and there using mods if necessary. I tried it in FIFA once using my laptops camera but it never really worked that well.
I don't think I will ever use an option to scan my face into a game. I have too much fun playng with the CC. Plus, I never make myself in games. I like creating my own characters and make them always different and suit them to the personality I want to play.
My character would be ugly.

yeah I only did it for the experience to see what the results would be. Nowadays if I want to use the Be a Pro mode I just use the CC options that are there
The only way it would work is if game could take the scan and make the relevant points of the face image and match it to the closest approximation the CC would allow. So it wouldn't be you, but as close to you (or your scanned image) as the CC could approximate. And unfortunately, that's probably way more work than BioWare is going to put in an RPG CC. I would think that kind of effort would go into an MMO or Sims-type CC first.
You mean creepy.
Hasn't this thread already happened? I'm getting deja-vu....
And I seem to remember saying 'hell no, I don't want to stare at my own weirdly scanned face in a video game thanks very much'. Give me a well animated fake face over a strangely moving 'real' one any day.
Development resources are best spent elsewhere. Self-inserting sort of defeats the purpose of an RPG anyway. That R stands for roleplaying.
Which doesn't prevent me from scanning Winona Ryder's face into the game and roleplaying a Winona Ryder who can win galaxies.
I tried it once.
It was extra ugly.

lol Nice use of Ryder.
