Dragon Age : Pirate Bay
I been saying for the longest DA4 we should be a Raider of the Walking Sea. So I fully support this idea. Being a Raider is the best of both worlds from all 3 games. We get to be apart of a mostly neutral organization like the Grey Wardens allowing us to make our character more Anti-Hero like considering the Raiders are even more Grey morally then the Wardens. We still get to keep our freedom of DA2, Raiders work independently from each other so its not like we will fell tied down by being a Raider. And just like Inquisition and Awakening we lead our organization, again since Raiders work independently we will be the Captain of our ship even though our leadership will be closer to Awakening considering we are not Admirals of the Armada just Captains of our ship.
We can still have various Origins from Human Mage Noble to City elf Slave to Dwarf ambassador. But similar to Origins and Inquisition we end up a Raider and even owning our own ship after the previous Captain dies similar to (Duncan, Hawke Sibling and Divine).
Customizing our ship should be alot more fun then Skyhold as well. No need to worry about certain parts of it having holes or feeling undone. It would really let Bioware stepup there creation skills if they really let us get detailed with it. I remember SKyhold lets us build a clinic or sparring ring for cosmetics. Well what if its not just cosmetics anymore but having a doctor on the ship effects crew moral which can effect wartable missions. Going to the Haul with our Inner Circle to do Wartable missions would be cool also.
More benefits of being a Raider in DA4 are
1.Connection to the Qunari. The Armada banded together and stopped the Qunari a rare thing back in the Storm Age I believe with the Qunari threat yet again lingering who better to fully but the nail in the coffin then the unlikely heroes.
2.Speaking of unlikely heroes who better for the Inquisitor to contact to help stop Solas then The Raider Captain who helped stop the Qunari Invasion. I doubt it would be easy for Solas to keep tabs on pirates.
3.Chance to make those dark choices some players wish to make again like in Origins. No Andraste tied Organization this time so if we want to racket a village for protection against the Qun then so be it. Or if we want to either save some slaves or trade them to the Vents who can question our morals when we set our own.
4.Something DA:I showed about the Raiders that made them more interesting is they are not limited to the sea. We see various Raider logos near caves and ruins as a sign they have been here and claimed whatever was there as there own. This would bring a interesting dynamic to exploring dungeons in DA4. No more finding worthless loot in caves and ruins. We can now add a legit treasure hunting aspect to our game. Find a cave mark it with the Raider logo then explore it. Even adding the system that Descent had were we can go deeper and deeper in Dwarven Ruins. Treasure maps as well in DA:I made me feel they really setup alot of stepping stones for the next game to be great from the Raider experience. If DA4 is set in the north with Tevinter and or Seheron and Rivani then there should be tones of ruins to explore from both the Elves, Vents and Dwarves. Maybe even visit Kal-Sharok. I would even continue the tradition of large first bosses such as the Ogre from Origins and 2 and Pride Demon from Inquisition but instead let it be a Golem(stone or steel).
5.Movies like Guardian of the Galaxy and Suicide Squad soon to come out prove people love that ragtag bunch of guys and gals who follow there own rules but will occasionally step in to save the day. Take a page out of MA2 book were we had a dossier of our companions. We can get info on some infamous characters who we feel would be good companions for our crew. A rogue Qunari saarbass or a exiled chevelair.
6.Companion selection screen in DA:I was cool with the cards. But how about we spice it up a bit. As Raiders of the Walking Sea our companions should have Wanted Posters. Like Calpernia for example(hoping she is a companion for DA4) would have a wanted poster and under her picture it could say "Former Cult/Venatori Leader". That would give a badass feel to our companions.
7.Also similar to MA2 we can give the Dragon Age series there own version of a suicide mission. Not upgrading our ship or gaining enough support from other Raider Captains would make the final missions much harder to complete.
I have my fingers crossed but hopes not up of course this is just an idea, that in we go from The Warden/Hero to Hawke/Champion to The Inquisitor/Herald to the new hero for DA4 - The Captain/Admiral.
I don't know who JadeDragon is, but I'm pretty sure he/she must be a very nice person. And to complement your post:
8 - Warships vs Dragons in the high seas. Do I need to say more?
- We will be a seeker.
- We will have to make a great big old moral decision about Solas and his shenanigans.
- We will have deal a lot with Tevinter and the Qunari.
- We will collect coins or shards or halla figurines or pictures or whiskey or books.
No thank you. No offense, but this all sounds terrible.
Yeah, I'd really not like to be forced to be a criminal. I know people love to make their grey choices, but this goes 180 and doesn't allow you to be good. Not really a solution.

"Ye goody goodies make me sick!"

Who says you have to be a criminal? We were not forced to be Andrastian in Inquisition this would be no different doing criminal acts would be a option no different then the warden did in origins. Lets not forget the poster child for the Raiders is Isabela, not exactly a 180 from grey right there,

Uh... Because of what "raider" means? People who raid, to take things by force. Basically, "pirate".
Sorry but the idea of being a pirate protagonist on a dragon age game sounds terrible to me. Sometimes I'm really glad that the devs rarely shows up on these forums. Well at least those few begging for the return of the exquizitor as a disable pc have calmed down lately. Now it will be "please turn dragon age into the Assassin's Creed of the Caribbean". Very original.
Pirate RPGs have been attempted. The results have been mixed at best.

First, watch your tone, you don't need to be disrespectful. Well, anyway, its unfortunate but we can't be 100% original anymore. We can try different things in different ways, and that's it.

We do it all the time in Inquisition. i bet you raided a lot of huts in the Hinterlands too.

1. That's really not the same thing in any way.
2. Even if it was, it happens as a choice during the game, which is completely different than forcing our character to be a criminal from the start.

Care to point out where in my post I was (or sounds to you) disrespectful?

It was all about your petulant attitude.

Oh, so it wasn't disrespectful them. It was just that you sensed I was being petulant. Next time don't falsely accuse people of being disrespectful only because you don't like what they are saying or because you are too sensitive to the tone they use when expressing their opinions.

You're being very petulant now.
You're being very petulant now.
And you are overly sensitive and have the tendency to accuse people of things they didn't do.
I've always thought this would be a good idea. Allows Bioware to feasibly include multiple northern countries as we visit various port towns and cities. Race options would also make a lot more sense within this setting. Pirates are going to follow a tough SOB regardless of whether he's elf, dwarf or Kossith.
Also, and I can't stress this enough there aren't enough pirate games out there.
it actually depends on what type of pirates...most people imagine pirates look like this...

While they maybe look like this...

Depends on who you ask...

Your petulance knows no bounds.

Another voice of reason!
