No!  Billions who would die in the holy wars when the inevitable schism splits it into 3religions:\

Fanatic 1: Destruction is the True Way!

Fanatic 2: You worship destruction? Then you shall have it Followers of Control, ATTACK!

Fanatic 3: FOOLS! You both follow false gods! All true Children of The Shepard know that Synthesis is the only path to salvation!

You forgot one... The one known as...

Nah, no ones afraid of the Nopers. They don't believe in anything.

Maybe the voice in the trailer was the Shepard VI? :D

Anyway, depending on when the game takes place, I think Shep is best handled in a codex entry:

“The Shepard” is a socio-religious entity, worshiped in several belief systems with various degrees of popularity throughout the galaxy. While the fact that “The Shepard” represents an actual historical figure is widely accepted among the archaeological and historian community, some of the more miraculous deeds, ascribed to the figure (such as resurrection, the curing of entire races from sickness or “The Shepard’s” alleged death to atone for the galaxy’s sin of creating AIs) are disputed by scientists. A number of more radical critics have dismissed claims that “The Shepard” existed entirely, based on the fact that it cannot even be established if it was a man or a woman.

Interestingly, descriptions of “The Shepard’s” achievements are mostly consistent throughout the different religions that focus on this persona. However, the various interpretations differ when it comes to specifics, such as details in certain actions, exact words spoken and most importantly the general demeanor of “The Shepard”. While some ascribe a benevolent and compassionate stance to the figure, others uphold the view of an uncompromising and unscrupulous pragmatist. Frequently, these disputes escalate into violence between the different sects, the most notable recent occurrences being the Paragonian Crusades in the 31st century (Shepardian calendar) and the Renegade terror campaigns in the 3350s.

However, despite these schisms, most of the various clergies view “The Shepard” and the 19 apostles as messianic saviors and many await the return of a new incarnation of this mysterious entity.

I could live with that, though I guess we'd have to canonize Synthesis to make it work.

Mass Effect is a universe where the first three games happened to involve a trilogy focused around a protagonist named Shepard. That protagonist might be beloved - to an obsessive and perhaps unhealthy degree by some people - but that character is not the center of this game universe.

Other people and other characters NOT named Shepard are, in fact, allowed to exist and to have new stories told about them.

Shepard's story is done, the next should clearly be Blasto's.

Please don't.

ME3's ending is the last time anyone should ever utter, "The Shepard."

With one exception...

The music starts and everyone must do "the Shepard."

Wow, I didn't know that people hate Shepard so much. I would love to hear about him\her in Andromeda :P I mean c'mon people some legacy would be cool.

It isn't hate that is the motivation. I don't hate 'the warden,' i don't hate Shepard. It is simply time to move on. For Shepard to have a legacy we need to MOVE on which is the irony of people calling for the return of Shepard for the "legacy."

Sometimes the like button just isn't enough.

I can't even articulate how much I agree with this. It's like trying to describe the pain of hitting your funny bone. I just know I'd rather it had never happened in the first place.

I don't get this either (The Shepard hate), whoever the new MC is what they do, and say is still going to be based on our decisions, so they are no better or worse than Shepard unless they get fewer opportunities to be excellent MC's. To be honest it's not even Shepard's fault that s/he had such crazy feats to accomplish, it was just the brainstorming of the writers who came up with the various plots and elements of the Shepard's story. In all honesty I feel bad for the next MC because I can't honestly imagine what their career highlights are going to be in that when compared to Shepard's, unless this person becomes some kind of Superman/woman, they just won't ever measure up.

I do know one thing, Shepard its not just a "character that happened to be involved in a game called Mass Effect". Maybe for you it is, i ll give you that but not for me. For me Shepard represents Mass Effect spirit itself. Its a character that i learned to enjoy and even like, same with Garrus, Tali,Liara, Wrex, Grunt etc. For the first time when playing a game i could feel like i was part of it. Is Luke Skywalker just a character for Starwars? or James T. Kirk to Star Trek?

Maybe they are dead for you, not for me, I wouldn t mind to see this universe, this stories,, this characters to continue, i already said in another topic that i miss more books.

I m not saying that i want Shepard on Andromeda... i  just hope the spirit of the first trilogy would be there again.

And i think Shepard must be referred on it.

There is absolutely no doubt Shepard will get at least 1 name drop at some point in ME:A. We may be leaving Shepard behind in the Milky Way, but his legacy will live on

Absolutely agreed. We may never play as Shepard again, but they can still have references to them. I also think that a few bars of Vigil's theme softly playing the background while talking about Shep would be a nice touch too.

I just don't want to have folks calling the former PC "The Shepard." While I'm at it, no more having a grandfather tell a M rated story to (what appears to be) a child around 8-10 years old as the post-credit Stinger.

"Tell me another story about the Shepard and their kinky alien sex."

Agreed with all of this. Dialogue and/or codex entry. Don't dwell on it. Invalidating the OT again, after invalidating it with the catalyst and then invalidating that with Stargazer wouldn't just be cringe worthy. It would be insulting.

Lets not get into Buzz Aldrin telling sexy stories to 8yr olds. I like him.

I lay me  down to Shepard, pray my Shepard to keep.

If I lie before I weep, I pray my Shepard to keep.

IF they are focusing on story, Shep is gone, not forgotten, not mentioned, only replayed.

Its over and done with, parting is not sweet sorrow, just :crying:

The FemShep voiceover about the new explorers leaving should be intro to new story.

Get it done.

(lol cant help it, time don't fly when bored with un-involving games and realities of life. only so much ME/DA replays can do Also I be an impatient person lol)

We will for sure get places and things named after characters in trilogy. That just going to happen. Actually, I think this game will be full of references to the trilogy, you kind of expect that. If they will ignore everything that happened in trilogy...nah I mean they already released teaser with Shepards voice, there is absolutely no way they gonna ignore old games. I want to at least have illusion of my choices meaning something in new game. "Yea he killed all geth but we rebuilded them".

If Andromeda is 2.5 million light years away from the Milky Way galaxy, then at least that much time has passed since the Ark started it's voyage right? Then how are they maintaining systems aboard the ships? is technology also stagnant at that point? even with Cryo sleep. 2.5 million years is long enough for several cycles to have happened isn't it? they could have timed it to come back to the Milk Way galaxy at that point couldn't they lol.

ME is Shepard.

I prefer Andromeda to be renamed and leave out the ME reference.

Unlike some... I honor Shepard for her games were the most gaming fun I've experienced.

Yes, of course. Living in a world without FTL is sad experience.
