It's not altogether demonic nor gay. It's a syncretic symbol of the appearance of dualism in multiplicity. As authentic as humanity and a counterpoint to this

I loved the flag planting. I always pictured the Inquisitor pulling a flag out of nowhere and going "OUR random patch of rocks now!" while the party looks on in confusion and/or exasperation at their antics.
