Why is Sera the only companion with the option to leave the inquisition?

I don't know if its like that for everyone, but Sera always has that option, and she's the only one to have it. My iq treats her so well, so I don't think its because they don't get along.

Also, is there a way to find out just how much a companion approves of you? Some of them always seem so disappointed in me I'm surprised they don't walk off in frustration, hehe. So I'm just curious if there's a way to find out who has approved of my inquisitors actions the most.

Well if your on PC you can always just install a mod. Otherwise your just going to have to get a general estimate. The most common way to do that is simply by knowing the 'greetings' they use and what they correlate to in terms of approval.

For instance, with Cassandra her approval-based greetings are along the lines of

"Shouldn't you be doing something?" (low approval)

"What do you need, my friend?" (high approval)

Every companion has unique approval base greetings that depend on how the Inquisitor treats them, but overall it should be easy to guess how they view you based on how they greet you. Their tone and word choice reveals much.

I don't know. I hate this though. Especially the line "You don't fit".

If anyone fits, she does. Besides the core (Cass/Leli/Cullen/Josie/etc). The Inquisition cares about the Chantry, but their other task is order and helping common people. Which is exactly what Sera does. I'd sooner get rid of the Qunari spy or Cole or Solas (oddly, all from Patrick Weekes).

You could track it manually. Approval gains values are:

-greatly approves/disapproves = +20/-20

-approves/disapproves = +5/-5

slightly approves/disapproves = +1/-1

There is an approval cap, but I don't know what the number for that is. I've never done it but I think there are special scenes for maximum disapproval; Blackwall, Sera and Cole all leave the Inquisition in that case (Cole mindwipes you as he leaves so you don't remember him).

Um, doesn't Cole also want to help people--if not more than Sera because he doesn't see class when he helps people.

Really, all optional recruits should have made this option available rather than just Sera. It wouldn't be hard to think of a particular reason for them all. At least Blackwall does have a potential kick-out scene if you banish the Wardens.

At least you can provoke crisis points with quite a few and get them to leave that way. On the one hand, that makes sense, because realistically you wouldn't kick people out of your team if you were best friends (I think?). On the other hand, it's yet another little nagging limit that BW has imposed that limits player choice.

But then there's a lot of stuff to be said about how BW handled companions in their last few games... *sigh*

The dev's knew Sera's complexity and willfulness as a character might offend players.

To be fair, you can get rid of Cole.

But what I mean is, I don't like the line for Sera. What makes her so unfitting? Why is she singled out?

Other than that, Cole doesn't even fit on this planet. lol. He means well and all and I keep him around myself, but.. things like that were hardly part of the mission statement.

Yes, it's certainly unfair that Sera is specifically singled out. Wonder what their motivation were, if there were?

Either they get whined at for not providing enough options, or they get whined at for providing too many.

Sera is certainly 'the odd one out' for multiple reasons, not least the fact that she is the only inquisition member who openly defies the laws to pursue her own agenda, which does not stop short of beating and kicking nobles in their heads until they burst like ripe melons. In fact, should anything not go her way, she does not hesitate to put the thumb screws on the Inquisitor herself. "It's all fun yeah?" No Sera, it's really not. It stopped being "fun" when you started putting arrows into peoples' throats.

Sera may have some sort of Robin Hood thing going for her, but her vigilantilism operates on denunciation alone, is completely uncontrolled, is not subject to any sort of checks and limits, and, if it ever became public, could instantly ruin everything all other members of the Inquisition have tirelessly worked for. Nothing the other members of the Inquisition do or try to cover up has a similar potential to implicate the Inquisitor herself in quite the same way. Sure, Blackwall/Rainier is a severe blow, but the Inquisitor can honestly deny knowledge of his past. Sera's 'game', however, can be considered the very antithesis to restoring order, which happens to be the main objective of the Inquisition, even if you think her actions justified from a moral point of view. If the Inquisitor's direct and intentional complicity in Sera's little 'games' (with dead people) became public, it would spell the end of the organisation. That alone would justify the statement 'you don't fit'.

Admittedly, some may consider that unfair, since a lot of people in the Inquisition play their own 'games' (Vivienne, Solas of course, Leliana, Iron Bull, etc). Considering that Leliana's actions on behalf of the Inquisition probably produce a much higher bodycount, they may even have a point. But all of these other players are at least aware of the impact and consequences of what they are doing. For Sera, all is just some kind of socio-romantic game to save the poor and downtrodden from the evil ruling castes. That makes her a dangerous loose cannon.

And for the love of the maker, please stop trying to find another thing to be outraged at. It's not a political statement that BW hasn't given you similar options for other companions. In fact, it could even be argued that Sera got preferential treatment in that you can end it cleanly and relatively painlessly with her if you so wish, as opposed to having to ****** off the others to make them leave on their own accord. In fact, after Sera's little 'outburst' post-Verchiel I would have liked an option to throw her in prison for cold-blooded murder.

What? That's when the fun begins! Especially if the enemy is Orlesian. That dude was asking for it though, tossing fireballs n junk at us.

Oh you... you got me there. OOCly, of course. TBH I really disliked the entire Orlais setting in DA:I. Thankfully I've just left the ball behind me in my current playthrough but good grief, if I have to see those lah-di-dah guys and gals with their puffed-up gesturing and horrible fashion sense one more time I'm going to pull an Anders on the Winter Palace.

The wiki has approval guides here that let you know how much approval you have based on the way NPCs greet you.
Warning though: the first page I linked is perfectly safe to visit, but the actual character guides contain spoilers.

You could kick out a romanced Leliana in Origins on account of "I don't want anything to happen to you." thus sending her away without even breaking the romance.

Same here and i find that very strange as well and i am not sure what i am going to write down now is the truth i have to check it. But even if you are romantically involved with her that option stays.

Considering BioWare are all about diversity of character, they have a funny way of showing it in their games. "Don't like this one specific character that we created to fill a role? Don't like the fact that she is one of the only characters that does what she wants to do and not what you want to do? Well here you go. You can kick her out of your game at any opportunity."

If they are going to put that option in, put it in for everyone.

Sera is the only one you can kick out because the developers knew ahead of time that not everyone would like.

Why this option was restricted to Sera and not the other optional companions is the real mystery, especially when you could do this in Origins.
