Just wondering, I though if I sent Mordin a tech expert it wouldn't happen but it did.

I sent Tali through and she suffered the same fate. But from what I've read, I hear the fate of the person who goes through the vent is actually affected by the person that is directed to lead the fire team. Haven't tested it yet though.

Mordin is more of a "Bio/medicine" tech. You need and "engineer-y" tech from the characters descriptions...

I chose Legion and it worked out fine. I believe Tali is also a good choice - not sure if there are others.

You also need to make sure you take out the valves quick enough, else they will roast no matter who you chose.

This also might be the case!

I used Miranda for fire team B...

I got out without any casualties by getting Garrus to lead both times, Tali as the tech and Samara for the biotic barrier. I sent Zaeed back with the survivors.

That might depend on loyalty then. My first playthrough I sent Tali for Tech and Garrus to lead. Tali got it in the face... Has anyone chosen a fire team leader that got killed? I put Jacob in the vent and put Tali to lead in hopes the fire team would get wiped out (just like Tali's squad did earlier in the game), but only Jacob bit the bullet.

Mordin isn't a tech. You have too techs, Legion and Tali. Send one of those.

You need to pick a good tech person for the tube (Tali or Legion, not anyone else.)

You also need to pick a good fireteam leader (Garrus best if you use Tali. Miranda is okay.)

They both need to to be loyal and upgraded where possible.

You also need to not waste time getting to the vents.

Do all this and they should survive just fine.

Legion always works for me. If you send him in with full upgrades to him personally (Geth Armor and Widow) as well have Garrus or Miranda as fire team leader, you should be able to make it through.

I sent Tali and she survived.

Garrus lead the Team B all the time.

Zaeed rescue the injured crew.

Samara hold the barrier.

Nobody died for me.

I just finnished the game for the first time, without casualties. I had all the upgrades and I sent Legion in to open the doors, Garrus was the team 2 leader throughout the mission, Grunt escorted the crew and Samara held the barrier. I had Jack and Mordin in my own squad.

Really dig the way the last mission worked. Also nice that it wasn't all draged out or prohibitevly difficult. But your earlier actions made a difference instead.

Mordin is not a tech expert, he's a biologist, even if he's loyal he will get shot in the head.

Pipes = Tali and Legion only

Ummmmmmmmmm Mordin ISNT a tech expert...He's an expert in all things BIOLOGICAL...The ONLY two choices you have that WONT die are Legion and Tali...Anyone else you send into the vent WILL die regardless of loyalty.

I sent Thane through the vents. He died closing the doors... rocket to the face.

Yeah, I know a tech specialist is best, but it was Jacob's "practically a suicide mission" that swayed me. Thane doesn't have long to live anyway. He's also quite good at sneaking in dark spaces.

I replayed the vents using Legion (Miranda fire team) and it worked fine. Tali wasn't loyal. I don't intend to keep this save though. Thane dying is my 'canon' version. I like the fact that people are expected to die and I think Bioware made it too easy for everyone to survive... Much more dramatic when there's meaningful casualties.

I sent Grunt to be the leader of the distraction team cause I thought hey... What could be more distracting than an angry Krogan?

I was wrong.

1) All weapon and armor upgrades possible prior to recruiting legion.

2) All loyalty missions completed prior to recruiting legion. (Reaper IFF mission after all other recruitment and loyalty missions are completed, then Legion's loyalty mission won't trigger collector abduction until after completion).

3) Pick Legion or Tali for vent mission at Collector base.

4) Pick Garrus (I've heard also Miranda or Jacob, but Garrus confirmed) for 2nd squad leadership. (tried others including Samara and vent tech always dies)

5) Pick Samara for biotic shield generation.

6) Mordin or Legion confirmed for taking crew mates back to ship. Other's unknown.

7) Take the M-920 Cain for heavy weapon. 1 well placed shot, or two moderate shots to human reaper's heart take it out.

This combination allowed all squad mates to survive and the Normany to escape. I blew up the collector base and the elusive man is pissed but to hell with him.

P.S. Continue game and pay a visit to captain's cabin afterward for more moderate romance with romance of choice.

Suicide mission suviving 101 :

- The vent, you need a tech expert --> Legion or Tali (has to be loyal).
- Fire team 1 & 2 leader, you need a leader --> Miranda or Garrus, heard JAcob works too (has to be loyal).
- Biotic, need a reall good one and not just a casual --> Samara, Morinth or Subject Zero (has to be loyal).
- Escort the crew back, any loyal will do but preferably a squishy --> Mordin or Tali for exemple.
- Team for last boss --> any loyal squishy will do, leave the tanks/leaders/biotics in the "hold the line" team.

I can confirm Miranda.

First time through I chose Garrus to lead the 2nd squad, and later in the same playthrough chose Miranda to lead the diversionary squad while I tired to make my way through the swarms with a biotic. I've since replayed the final mission and reversed the two, with Miranda getting picked to lead a squad out of the Normandy, and Garrus leading the diversion when you fight your way through the swarms. Both Miranda and Garrus will work without incident anytime you have to pick a 'leader' during the end run.

5) Pick Samara for biotic shield generation.

I can confirm that Jack works as well, but haven't tried Miranda, Thane, or Jacob yet. I'm assuming either of those three results in a squadmate being killed howeveer.

6) Mordin or Legion confirmed for taking crew mates back to ship. Other's unknown.

Samara or Jacob work here as well if either one is loyal.

Loyality completed.

Phase 1- Legion in Vent, Miranda Leads Fire team, Clear out enemies Fast, Hit switches, clear last mob before hitting the switch. Tali / Jack in squad.

Phase 2- Jack uses Biotic shield, Garrus Leads 2nd team, Mordin set as escort for crew.

Tali / Miranda in squad.

Final Phase- Tali / Jack in squad, All other heavy hitters holding the door, squishy's out of the line. Mordin aboard Normandy--taking care of the crew.

Worked for me, Thank you SL22....

PS> only in stupid movies do peeps stick their head out while closing a door. Mordin/Tala died a pointless death. Kept resetting it last night for better outcome. Had to finish this game cause mmo's don't have a true ending...already at maxed cap on STO/WoW. LI is T'soni.

You could always opt to go in yourself... and at every vent you'd have to play the bypass game before a timer runs out and results in a critical mission failure... lol

Seriously though, Tali or Legion (or kasumi when she eventually arrives)
