Alistair knocking an ogre back, jumping up and plunging his sword into its chest, knocking it down onto the ground and impaling its brain. Oghren clambering onto the broodmother's back and cutting its neck to ribbons. The Warden leaping onto a dragon's head, slicing it open, then sinking their sword deep into the dragon's brain and riding it down onto the ground as the beast collapses.
These were moments of awesome. They felt like rewards for completing tough fights - a moment of gratification to conclude the battle. It wasn't perfect - ranged kills didn't get anything - but it was fun when it happened. Heck, there were smaller ones - like slicing the head off of Darkspawn in combat, or impaling them and then using your shield to push them off of your blade. (Admittedly those could cause minor continuity issues - like Cauthrien miraculously recovering from a beheading...)
I can't recall whether DA2 had anything similar. But for Inquisition... Bosses just collapse when they run out of health. There's no final blow - except for in special circumstances where it gets rendered into a cutscene. (Though the final boss battle has the only examples that spring to mind.) And I miss that. Inquisition's combat could be very satisfying, but I want my executions back, dammit!
