That being said I had fun and used Lego and Alchemist for the first time (both for promotions). Didn't care too much for Lego but Alchemist was fun. Will do her again but she seems to not acquire XP that fast, tho might be my imagination.

Probably because you are used to playing keeper and saarebus.  Barrier gives a lot of support xp when enemies hit anyone's barrier.  As a stealth rogue that kill things and don't get hit.. .you lost a lot of support xp for the group.   If you ever run a saarebus solo and let everything hit your barrier once before killing them.. vs a stealth rogue sol....you will see that the saarebus probably get 30%+ more xp.    And in a group.. saarebus's barrier could double the team's xp.

if you play the lego using all defensive abilities hes really lame. once i got my con to around 45 i started running him with lunge and slash, payback strike, shield bash, and walking fortress(can be subbed with counterstrike), and found him to be really fun to play. having the lvl 26 longsword and shield helps keep that type of build alive really well.

the alchemist is my 2nd favorite rouge class. the duelist being the 1st. both are super fun to play, and have great dialogue lol.

I'ma give that a whirl one of these days, as I have a level 11 Lego with 0, yes, 0, did I say 0? Hell yea, 0 completions on my Lego!!!

Had a blast playing with you guys lately. Never thought I'd touch this game again. Here I sit, re-addicted.

Been a lot of fun playing with you too Russ, hope your allergies go away!

Yes I am a very aggressive player so I don't choose the defence abilities much (not counting passives). Matter a fact I don't use stealth for Alchemist at all. Leaves room for another attack (tho I use combat roll a lot). She is quickly becoming my fav character... well her and Keeper and Templar... those are my go to three now.

I did a whole promotion with Necro which was fun, but not my speed, but I can tell why people like her. I think the only ones I haven't done a whole promotion with yet are Duelist, Virtuoso and Elementalist.

Tho I have to admit, I am getting a bit discouraged, I have had no new gear now for over two weeks despite nice jumps in my score and promotions and hundreds of chests :( I know there is still a lot out there I have not got yet but I will keep trudging along for now,

That happy feeling you have when you log into DAI-MP and realise all your characters are level one because the night before you went on a promotion jag....

Im a new player, so regarding the quoted part above, does my score and promotions in any way influence the rewards I get from chests or in a match?

You have a hidden 'loot score' based on the item cards you have collected.  Items (not potions) in both the store chests and dungeon chests

Basically there are different tiers, with 10000 items being the highest loot bucket.

Noone is really sure of what the tier brackets are (I assume blocks of 1000 but who the hell knows)

You need 800+ item loot score before the Hakkon weapons have a chance of dropping from the Nightmare and Heartbreaker dragons (possibly bugged as people have started new characters and gotten Hakkons fairly quickly)

It is generally accepted that it takes 2.4 million gold spent to max out your loot score

Once you reach max loot score you still get loads of shite grey gear.

Promotions will not influence your drops at all.

Does any one know why the High Dragon doesn't set off the Alchemist's elemental mines? Every once in a while she will set  them off but like 1 out of ten times. I can't seem to figure it out.

I think it is because she doesn't really shuffle her feet.  So, she needs to land (either from her flight or the little jumps she does) directly on them.

When she DOES manage to land on them, though, it is usually pretty impressive.

It's that elephant balancing on a basketball tactic. Mrs. Dragon used to be in the Ringley Brothers I'm sure of it.

Have to say, enjoyed reading this post.  As someone who has owned the game for about a year but have only like 10 promotions and junk gear, it's pretty disheartening to try to actually grind.

Reading this though, is helping me get that drive to actually grind out some of it.

Thanks!  I am so happy. I think more DAI SP fans would get into the game if they gave it a chance.

I had a nice experience, when I first started playing I was only playing as a Keeper and about ten matches in I got the staff "Autumn's Touch" in one of my first chests and I took that as a sign! (My name is Autumn). It was my "bread and butter" staff for a long time.

Matter a fact last night, I got some new level 26 gear (a shield) that I had been wanting!  I was very excited! YAY!!! I can't use it for NM yet, as it doesn't generate guard but for Perilous and below my Templer is a beast now. So fun! Nearly soloed a Perilous run with it last nite.

One of the big hurdles to me is just the sheer amount of grinding that's required.  It's crazy.

The grind, combined with the major difficulty jumps is really offsetting for me.  I'm currently at a point where if I wander into a normal or threatening, I can almost do it asleep.  But step it up to perilous, and I need to put on my serious face, and if by some fluke I dive into NM, tryhard pants are being thrown on also and I'm hoping that I'm going to get carried.

The Skinner box hasn't been kind to me.

As far as the grind the best thing you can do is find a core group of mates and just pound out a lot of matches in a single go. I prefer FC runs because there is more XP and I like fighting dragons. If you have a team that works well together, the grind is no longer a chore but quiet fun IMO. You can knock out a lot or promotions doing this and generate a lot of gold. If you are on PS4 add me as a friend, I spend a lot of time in Threatening and Perilous.

As far as the jumps this is the thing you need to remember. The game is supposed to be a "team" game. You need to work together and whatever level you are running (when you say level 12+) should seem hard. If Threatening is too easy you need to tackle Perilous more. The thing is we had to spend so much time on Threatening in our minds we get used to that level of combat. But when we bump up its like we are a noob all over again. But that is what makes it a challenge and makes us work together.  Remember, we were the same way when we first started in Routine! It seems like we are taking one foot forward then two back, but if it wasn't hard there would be no reason to work hard to play and get all the cool loot and dosh!

What a great long weekend of playing DAI-MP!

I had so much fun. I actually played more NM than any other for the first time. I am so happy that I was able to get a Templar and Alchemist NM run without a Barrier Spam. I had no idea I would be able to. Seems all my work is finally paying off. Also, did a NM run with just one other player.. that was really hard but we did it! Took forever to kill the damn dragon!

I also got invited to two HB matches which were fantastic and much less stressful than the first time. I also witnessed the best Saarebas player I have ever seen during one. He was just phenomenal I hope I can play with him again. I rarely say I am truly impressed by other players but this bloke was off the charts.

Also soloed a Threatening FC run with my level ONE Sarrebas. That took forever!

I set a goal to bring my score up to 565 by last night and was able to actually get it up to 574.

So not too shabby for a bank holiday weekend!

What team mates you wind up with means just a ton in how hard things go in matches.  If a team plays well together then they can often tackles levels that of themselves would be very very tough.  Also if you happen to get in games with a high promote player you can usually blast through perilous.

Totally agree with AutumnWitch.

The grind is not so bad if you can find a regular group to play with. Ideally the group should be relatively comparable with regards to amount of promotions although it is hardly required. Sure, you can get carried, but I find it more fun when the team really needs each other to succeed.

I still find it fun to try different team loadouts and see which classes and tactics really synergize with each other. I also enjoy taking on difficulties that make me put on my "tryhard pants".

Unfortunately, my schedule leave trying to find a group that I mesh well with hard (and AutmnWitch, you seem to be a very popular person, almost never got to be able to jump into your game :P ), so the grind is very daunting still.

I actually enjoy having to put on the "tryhard pants", but where I don't even have to worry about dying at lvl 1 with less than 20 promotions overall in routine on a lvl 1 character, to not caring about most enemies once I crack lvl 5 in threatening, to almost being paranoid about assassins in perilous because they kill me in less than a second, that's jarring to me.  I HATE being carried.  It's just one of my quirks, I enjoy giving people a leg up, but just despise not contributing myself.

With my only "endgame" weapons being the lvl 24 Nameless Blade and the  lvl 24 Heartstring Bow (both for classes that aren't my favorite), my damage is lacking to contribute as a dps.  I have the drakescale armor for everything, but in the higher difficulties, that just doesn't seem to cut it.  I just feel like I can't pull my weight on the higher difficulties without being a barrier spammer, which feels a bit cheap.

Also, I've stopped getting excited seeing purples, because it seems like it's either going to be a low level unique, or another Superb rune, which I'm currently sitting on 6 frost, 2 spirit, and a fire version of them.  This is after I put them in all of my weapons.

Back before I got a decent amount of promotions, I was a total barrier spammer with the Virtuoso. I never found it cheap and a good Virtuoso can turn a decent party into a KILLING MACHINE.

The Virtuoso used to be my virtual security blanket.

Yeah if you are on PS4, you should try and get on the AutumnWitch train as it seems to be moving fast.

Yeah it is hard to get excited about ANOTHER level 9 Farslayer bow or another Tenasarin Bow.
