Yeah if you are on PS4, you should try and get on the AutumnWitch train as it seems to be moving fast.
This. . . . . . sounds not right. . . . . . . .

I just feel like I can't pull my weight on the higher difficulties without being a barrier spammer, which feels a bit cheap.
It's not cheap! On my way up, I joined quite a few NM Dragon pugs where the team was going to wipe zone 2 but my Saarebot barrier spam saved the day.
It's not the most exciting, and sometimes more DPS is needed, but it's a valid and sometimes necessary part of groups.
To spice it up, I always used Leap/Ring/Barrier combo with glyphs. Leaping around to damage foes, ring to speed up anyone I could get close to, and barrier for duh. You get the most XP this way too. Saarebas generates just about max damage and support XP this way.
I can hold my own DPS wise in NM pugs now without barrier, but when a Saarebas is there, it is the single-most welcome site to see a well played barrier spam, besides promolords that can one shot everything in NM with their lvl 1s.

One thing noobs don't realise when they spam shield in NM is by watching the more advanced players you can learn so much and you can see what other characters are capable of once they reach higher levels. AND if you are on a match where people are talking you also learn a lot about the game. I can't tell you how much I learned from just watching and listening on NM games.
Congrats!
congratz autumn!!
How ironic is it tho that I'm not going to use it? I tried a run with both my Keeper and Saarebas and it just doesn't fit. For Saarebas losing the attack speed from Pride is just a HUGE downer esp the style I like to play. When I get much higher CON I might revisit it. As for my Keeper Isana's Song just suits her better and with the HUGE magic bonus and chance for additional chain lightning out weighs the Crit Damage bonus for me anyway. Again tho, once I double my CON might be a different story.
I am interested in what you all think?
grats!

Put 30% Heal on Kill on that and use 2 ability rings.
Never look back !
With the right build, it's decent on the Arcane Warrior. But it's completely OP on the Elementalist. I'm not well versed on the Necromancer but if walking bomb crits...
Also, on the Saarebas it can be really good. I completely reworked my build so I could use it: Itwa Explosion for 10k+, attack speed ring to make up for lost casting speed then barrier is my rotation with leap for mobility. I'm actually putting out more damage with one offensive skill than I was with two, using Heart of Pride. Plus, now I'm giving the group attack speed instead of casting Gatlok Blast in the flow stance.
i basically do the same thing, but use athlok blast's fire ability, then speed rings and barrier.

once your crit and willpower is higher, you will notice a HUGE difference between isana's song vs hakkon's wisdom. I HATED the fact that i got hakkon's wisdom 1st, because my crit was poo poo. now i wont use any other staff because the damage difference is just crazy.
sorry, not use to how quoting works on these forums. so i double posted

Can you explain this further? As of now my stats are CON 61, WILL 92 and CUN 49 (if that helps)
The thing is (as far as I see it) for my Keeper using isana, +41 Magic (all the time) and and chance for chain lighting which hits quite a bit actually, outweighs Hakkon's +30 magic on kill for only ten seconds. The wild card is 100% Crit Damage but as my Keeper uses both barrier and fade/frost step which technically aren't attacks, having the extra crit damage would go unused a lot or be wasted
As far as Saarebas, the speed ring does not increase her attack/casting speed, only her movement. Where as Pride lets her cast Saar-Taar Shield 50% faster (as if it is an attack) and the permashock as well. So with fire ring going at the same time, about the only thing that can actually hurt me when casting all of that, that fast, is the barrier breakers and other Saarebas. Other than that most attackers will just burn/shock to death. But when I use the Hakkon staff I can't cast it that fast (with no gaps) and I also lose the permashock.
One thing I will say, is that I just used it for as a DPS run and holy crap, the damage it does is MUCH more than either Isana or Pride. But as I usually run support with both my Keeper and Saarebas so the DPS is not that big of a deal, or as much.
Thanks for replying above. It all helps!

It does increase casting speed but can be a bit glitchy sometimes.
If you find speed is not increasing just take a little step forward after you cast the ring so the game recognises the effect.
Also, if in any doubt, have 2 Saarebas stand beside each other and both cast the ring (speed stacks) and tell me that isn't a beautiful thing ![]()

Where I see another HUGE difference in speed is Athlok Burst..... with Pride its pretty much continuous and smooth movement, But without (even with the speed ring) there is a gap of time right before the ice bursts up where enemies can get me while casting.
I did a whole promotion with Hakkon and speed ring and it seems cluncky, powerful but clunky.
Raise your CUN to at least 100 (that is 50% critical chance) and you will see the difference when you start criting more than you don't... ![]()
I think that I posted detailed comparison between HoP and Wisdom earlier in this thread.
You can also put upgrades that gives you more than 20% attack on Wisdom, almost same amount that 48 Magic gives you.
Edit:
Frost Step can crit and it is good offensive talent. Barrier with Mana Surge passive and Mind Blast can do pretty good damage to multiple targets. ![]()
Also, see below... ![]()
I played another promotion with Saarebas using Hakkon, getting the hang of it now me thinks. I will try playing her as DPS oriented later today (instead of support) and see what a difference that makes.
Thanks for all the advice/help!
Just tried Virtuoso with Hakkon and Hot Licks ring. It's amazing. Plus it's ranged and safer.
Hakkon's Wisdom is going to make my Perilous Virtuoso game so strong! If I can get it... grumble
I tried Hot Licks/Ring/Fire Belt recently and it just didn't have the oomph of Power Chord/Ring/Storm Belt. I did like being at range, it just seemed like the baddies didn't melt as much.
Silly question, but does Cool Beats crit?
Ok so I am in the middle of a DPS Saarebas run with Hakkon. I have one comment and question so far.
1. I am surprised how little XP she is getting relative to the damage she is doing. I just had a FC run and I know she was responsible for 80% of the damage in the whole run and nearly the entire dragon damage. But she is coming in 2nd and 3rd to players that are doing a lot less. I am not jealous, just curious why this is happening. It seems counter-intuitive. Is there something I am doing wrong?
2. And as far as the damage now?
You're not doing anything wrong, you just have low stats. My DPS Sare (Leap, Itwa, Gaatlok, Athlok, Wisdom with 28% attack upgrades, superb crit damage ring, HoK ring) outscored support Sare more than double yesterday. My stats are 200/240/202 atm.
Stick with support builds and HoP until you reach higher cunning and willpower.
