The "double tap"

Known by many, explained by few. It's probably just me (but Lord knows I try), but I can't find any clarification on the "double tap" shot that charge weapons can produce. Does anyone know why we can fire immediately again after a charged shot is released? I do what I can to help people understand this game, but it helps if I do.

Thanks in advance.

I'm not familiar with what you are describing.

Unless you are referring to weapons like the Arc Pistol or Geth Pulse Shotgun, which can fire both charged and uncharged shots. With those, you can refire immediately, but there's no special trick to the RoF, it just works.

It might be the best just to practice it, I'm not sure if I could explain it clearly. The basic principle is: when using chargeable weapons, charge the first shot, and immediately after releasing it, shoot again. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, I'm not sure if there is a reliable way to do it over and over again.

I understand how to do it, I'm just interested in how it works. What is the hidden bonus behind the charged shot that alters the weapons rate of fire this way?

Jeremiah, you understand me correctly; but if I understand you, you're just saying it's a bug?

Just a guess:

If you charge it for a duration longer than the minimum refire delay, the second shot can be fired instantly. May be the counter for the delay starts when you hold the trigger rather than actually shoot.

Some people have called it a blink shot or blink fire in the past.

I think NightSlasher's hypothesis is probably pretty accurate.

What? you still try to teach how to play this game?

Thought your are completely addicted to Isaac. :P

Due to you question:

When take the Venom for example, you can fire uncharged shots with fixed rate fire, or a certain delay between the you shoot again.

The delay between a charged shot and an uncharged shot seems to be the same, but for the charged shot the delay timer seems to start, when you push the trigger to charge up your first shot.

That's for sure the same reason, why the charge mechanism doesn't break Tech Cloak while releasing the shot, but by charging the shot.

[edit]: oh, seems that is the same what TheNightSlasher said. I should wait that long with pressing the post button.

I'm liking the post, not the character in that pic.

I wasn't actually aware of any of this. I always assumed people had sorted out that firing an uncharged shot in between charged shots put out more DPS, or something like that.

I've probably never noticed this because pretty much all the charged weapons that I use regularly can be fired uncharged. I think the Acolyte is the only exception, and I can't remember ever double-firing that one (but I don't think I've ever really tried.)

You can't double tap it since it doesn't have an uncharged shot.

So true.

Deebs, plz. The Marksman snipe-across-the-whole-map double tap is a righteous path for the devout just as well.

This sounds very arc pistol / venom related...

Is the question ==== Is it possible to cause as much damage with half-a-charged shot after firing a fully charged shot?  with the arc pistol..yes, you can land a half charged head shot after firing a fully charged shot....this works very well  versus cerberus and collector mooks......but versus a boss...nope...when I am blindly firing the arc pistol without charging it..it feels like:

guy-shooting-fast-o.gif

the venom's uncharged shots , to me, are very under-whelming ..unless you get that perfect shot at a mooks feet

I miss when the krysae could double tap, killed many Geth Rocket Troopers with it, but that was long ago in land of balance changes.

I've read this thread in some bewilderment. I run around all the time with charged weapons charged (apart from the Kishock, because it doesn't have any 'double tap' capabilities, and I can just begin to charge it as I fire my stun power.) But as for most of the others, yeah, I 'double tap' all the time, and would simply have thought the response to the emboldened bit was, umm, because the follow up shot isn't charged? It certainly works in my head if I say it with a Welsh accent.  :P

Pretty much. Just a slight correction:

Now that's 100% spot on.

Pretty sure this is how it works, cause it's also when cloaking stops.

Does double widow headshots the same way count?

It's a start. And it's the first step on the way to realize that the brutal desmembering (is that even a word?!) of the High Lord is infinitely superior to the surgical precision of snipers. But it's a good start ;)

The Quintuple Tap Raider off host is also pretty good  B)  B)

I got 6 shots once, on a russian host. I got nightmares for like 3 days after. I also remember Cyonan mentioning he got 7 once, and getting sick just at the thought of it XD

Anything Shotgun is Good. That made clear, if I'm using MM I prefer to fourtuple tap the Raider. The High Lord benefits more from AR ;)

I can second the 7 shot thing. Freaking scary levels of lag though.

I had a match yesterday where I decided to go PUG for one match, instantly regretted it. I only had a double shot raider most of the time, but man, the lag. Rubberbanding enemies, powers going right through them (not even the animation going off into the distance, but the power working properly). Only other decent player left at like wave 4. So I am left with a lagging Valkyrie on Hydra with a useless Puggernaut host and a Huntress that I don't think knew what an enemy was, they just heavy meleed in random places, then glitched off the map on later waves.

So, apparently Raider can function normally despite lag. I was expecting atleast a constant 4 shots once I saw the lag, but nope, mostly two.
