The sense of adventure, something the second and third games lacked. I want to be able to explore without the exploration being a filler quest. ME1 was great at this. ME3 got this horribly wrong. That being said, I mean the concept rather than the implementation. ME1's planets were largely cut and paste, although that was probably due to limitations in the tech at the time. I want to diversity, some uninhabited, others so.

I kind of like the idea behind Fallout 4's Minutemen radiant quests where you need to acquire settlements to increase strength, albeit with more polish than that game allows. If we're supposed to be building up a power base don't make it linear; a go here, kill those guys and voila, the keep is ours, ala Inquisition's method. Just something a little more integrated in to the story.

Thane vs Kai leng was awesome. I just wish they used him to his full potential.

It was horrendous and Shep + company just stood there like idiots. It was also a huge slap in the face for all those who romanced Thane; a truly sucky thing to do from BioWare but you had to play Thane's romance to really understand why. Thank god there's a mod to prevent that. I don't never ever want to see them kill off a LI again. But that's that. Back to the topic.

Origins.. I liked how Tela Vasir threw working for Cerberus back into a SS Shepard's face. I liked how my colonist/ruthless Shepard was short tempered/borderline racist to Batarians. I liked shooting/meeting Finch maybe he was a parasite from Earth, or maybe you can try and show him another way like your Shepard took. I dunno for the most part they're meaningless details, and sometimes they are headaches and may require some mental gymanstics to figure out why your Shepard is doing this (like a soul survivor Shepard working for Cerberus), but I liked having them in the games, and every once in a while when something from your origin/past popped up they added a bit of personal touch to the story for me to roleplay with.

Collections that don't actually do anything  what collections?, No ultimatums   what do you mean with this?

There were various collections in ME1, and only one of those ever amounted to anything. It got you like one readiness in ME3. Stupid stuff like that that is put in to fill space but is completely worthless. I was also thinking of Dragon Ages collections. Bottles for example.

As for ultimatums. Maybe that's the wrong word. I do that sometimes. Basically, having moments where a friend isn't going to make it out can be beneficial to the story. They don't happen in ME2 or 3. Everything appears to be smooth sailing throughout the games. Boring.

I thought Alistair's death in DA:O was well done when he decides to kill the Archdemon against the Warden's orders/wishes. Killing Anders was a great story moment, and a very sad realization for my femHawke. Sadly Thane was handled really poorly in ME3 as were most of the ME2 cast.

I agree about ME3. But when it comes to DA:O, my warden and Alistair will always survive and marry. That's the great point, though; he can die but it's only optional, you can avoid it, it's not forced upon you, unlike Thane. So, death of a LI is okay but only as long as it is optional and you have a way to prevent it, one way or the other.

Yeah options are always nice. I'm surprised they at least didn't make Thane's death optional like Miranda's where you can do one or two things to save him. But yeah that whole sequence/mission was really bad.

True. And what made it even worse, was the way Thane's attitude towards his sickness changed in the end of ME2, that he actually wanted to live and the subtle hint at the SB's ship, that gave hope for Thane being okay in ME3. Then, in ME3 his attitude was like complete stranger's, he wasn't even close the person he was in the end of ME2. He reminded me of a tranquil from DAI.

Okay, I think I've derailed this thread enough now. :)

IMO, we haven't had an ME game where exploration wasn't filler on some level. ME1 draws heavily from old space exploration games like Starflight and Star Control 2, but the difference with those games was that exploration was essential. Unlike in ME1, where you're told to go to Feros, Noveria, Therum, etc. right off the bat, you didn't know where to go in those older games, and you could often discover plot-critical items and information just by randomly jumping into a new system. With the easy availability of FAQs, fewer players would have the patience to play that style; they would probably just consult a guide and figure out which systems you're supposed to go to. So it's difficult, although not necessarily impossible, to create the kind of space exploration experience that ME1 tried to replicate.

Drawing mainly from ME1

1)A dialogue wheel, rather than a V standing on it's side.

2) Combat hardsuits

3) Helmets

4) A codex and a setting that actually match up

5) Missions that don't involve shooting people.  Or at the very least make shooting optional

6) A protagonist who, however well-trained, is essentially an ordinary human.  Not a messiah, not a relentless undead cyborg, not a "symbol".  Just someone at the right place at the right time to do something.

7) An ending that actually feels connected to the story being told

8)  A nice-looking uniform that does not look like a super hero costume or a tinfoil miniskirt/thigh high boots ensemble

9) Romances where sex is optional

10) Romances where nude scenes are skippable

11) No save imports

12) Non combat skills

13) Environments that don't feel like one long corridor

14) ME1-style grenades.  Moddable.

15) No multiplayer

Thane was a terminal patient...he needed medical care daily, he was in peace with himself..that was stated in the game... he had one of the most honorable deaths in the game on that fight with Kai Leng. What more could we wish for him? He was critical to the game even on ME3 story.

and that line is memorable

that was for Thane, you son of a bit."

Return the ME1 ability to put your entire squad in whatever armor you darn well please.  I like to put the whole squad in Hahn-Kedar camo armor so they look uniform.  Especially Garrus.  Can't tell you how many times I shot Garrus in ME3 because at a distance he looks like one of those Turian things.  Sometimes instead of being behind and to my left he would go running out in front of me during a firefight.

"you're shooting at me Shepard!"  What? Garrus? No that's a Turian Thingy, you should be behind me somewhere.  Hold on, I'm trying to line up a shot!

"you're shooting at me Shepard!"   Man down, man down, enemies everywhere!"

Oops.

What benefit is there with no pausing anyway? It's removal doesn't really improve the game for people who already don't bother to use it.

There is nothing in my post that describes any intention to blurr the lines between SP and MP. Keep them separate for all I care. I just like the myriad of character choices and customization in ME3MP. And it's speed.
