Y'know I have to say, despite really looking forward to this game, I can't help but want Dragon Age 4 more.

And the thing is, it's not because I like the DA series better, I actually prefer Mass Effect.

But it's like, the Dragon Age series, each game is a different story, new main character, new cast. But with Mass Effect the first three games were all one big story with the same main and cast. So while this is a sequel, I can't help but feel like it's more a spin off type of thing. Y'know? And that kinda takes away from my hype for this game somewhat. It just doesn't feel like an upcoming sequel like DA4 would.

Anyone else feel this way at all or is it just me?

MEA. Dragon age doesn't click as well as Mass Effect for me. Although, I want to see the new Star wars game bioware is cooking up.

I can understand your preference. But the general feel I get around here is ME>DA.

I find the shifting story and protagonist to be a con rather than a pro. You have to reset with each installment.

Comparing the two now though simply isn't fair.

While I prefer ME3 to DA:I. Inquisition itself is a much newer game and is more refined, especially where dialogue is concerned.

ME all the way with me.

I liked DAO, but DA2 and DAI fell flat in many aspects, and the setting of Dragon Age does not interest me nearly as much as the setting of Mass Effect. As such, I will always prefer Mass Effect to Dragon Age.

After playing through ME1 again, I realized both ME2 and 3 is missing the rich lore driven dialogue ME1 had. I have to say after this lastest play through I'm looking a little bit more forward to Andromeda. I hope they revert back to what made ME a good game. I want them to put more effort into this universe.

I actually prefer that they do a whole new story, because all the branching paths of choices that Shep could make were piling up and it can start to interfere with the current story if you have to keep making alterations to account for previous choices.

It's good to wipe the slate clean once in a while.

Also, fantasy RPG games are a lot more common than Space Sci-Fi Shooter/RPG hybrids. I've actually been looking for another Mass Effect like game but I just can't find one.

I like Dragon Age more tbh but I think they ruined the story with Inquisition so I'm not completely looking forward to DA4. I'm at this moment looking more forward to MEA.

I like ME more despite me3. was underwhelmed by DAI. So definitely looking forward to mea more, though I'm looking at both games with some trepidation in terms of whether they are going to be satisfying.

At this point, I'm more curious about the new IP. Maybe because I don't even know what it is. I used to like DA more than ME, but they're both a little ridiculous now.

Unless they manage to come up with some really awesome information about their games which I would somehow be willing to believe despite their "alpha footage" and "by PC gamers for PC gamers" shenanigans, I will stick to my "wait and see" attitude towards anything BioWare may release in the future. I really have no preference at the moment.

And even if they manage to wow me, I will adhere to the family motto of House TotalBiscuit: "We do not preorder."

It took me awhile to learn.. but I did.

So the question is Mass Effect or Dragon Age? My answer is the same as to whether I like blondes or brunettes.

Yes.

For now? ME: A, for sure - I'm actually getting some hype, which doesn't happen often these days - but I'm really interested in seeing how they follow up on Trespasser in the next DA, and I really like that setting just generally, so once Andromeda's out and done with, I'll definitely be excited to see what's next for DA.

That said, I'm also really looking forward to seeing this new BioWare Star Wars game we're supposed to be getting - though, as a massive KotOR II fan, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't kinda disappointed that this whole EA exclusivity thing means Obsidian probably won't get another crack at the IP - and there's supposed to be a whole new IP in the works, too.

All in all, it's a good time for BioWare fans, I think.

What new Star Wars game?

I know Amy Hennig is writing one for EA, but not Bioware.

I hated Obsidian for years because of Kotor II (and nwn2). :P It wasn't until New Vegas that I eased up. What did I miss? It was buggy when it came out.

Huh, could've sworn I read somewhere that BioWare were making one. Guess I just assumed BioWare were working on it, 'cause Amy Hennig's game's supposed to be an RPG.

It's hard to say whether you'd like KotOR II now if you didn't when it came out. The fan restoration project has fixed most of the bugs, and restored a lot of the cut content, so if that was your main issue with the game, you might well enjoy it more now... For me, though, the plot, characters, and to a lesser extent, a few of the smart refinements they made to the basic gameplay systems - the far more in-depth lightsaber customisation, for example - were enough that I loved it pretty much unreservedly even back when it was a buggy mess. It's one of the most subversive Star Wars stories I've ever experienced.

I know her studio is working a bit with Bioware, but they're not the same. I'm looking forward to it though.

Well, I planned on revisting Kotor sooner or later. So hopefully Kotor II will be better this time around.

It's definitely worth another go. Just grab The Sith Lords Restored Content Mod before you start, either from ModDB, or the Steam Workshop if you've got that version

I prefer Dragon Age overall, it has more depth in the dialogue and the companions have more personality and screen time.  I feel like BioWare can go full RPG with DA, but with ME they're restricted to the FPS RPG-lite style so don't go into as much depth.

I'm also finding more options when replaying DA, but ME has less paths to chose and my Sheps are more homogeneous (not so much in ME1 tho).

However, after the added banter and dialogue with squad mates in ME3, and the really good romances in DAI, I'm hoping for great things from ME:A.  I'm optimistic.  To see what BioWare can do with a clean slate in the ME universe is an exciting prospect for me personally.

I love both, but if I had to chose it'd be DA.

Ah yes, the Cynical Brit mantra.  I stick to that too with most games, however it doesn't matter how crap ME:A is, I'm pre-ordering.  If only to avoid being stupidly spoilered before playing it like I was with DAI.  I waited, and ended up knowing way too much.  :(

So TB will have to look the other way and forgive me this one indiscretion.

Therein lies my problem. I don't even see it as a universe exactly. I saw it as a particular story. And the setting just a hyper-realized form of our own.. a big what if.

Now that that's over, and it's trying to be it's own thing removed from that, it's weird to me. I think people who were really dissatisfied with the story though are gonna be looking forward to it the most. Because they want a do over and hated the ending.

I hated much of DAI, but still like the DA setting. If it wasn't for that, I wouldn't have played at all. And that keeps me curious enough for the next game (if and when that comes).

MEA by far.

In fact I've never played DA, DA2 or DAI - I just don't care at all for that dark fantasy rehash, it doesn't do anything for me. And the gameplay doesn't look like something I enjoy from videos I have watched.

Only one is dark fantasy... barely. I wish that was the case for all actually.

For the moment its Andromeda. Once its released, I would say the new IP, if its released before DA4 otherwise it would be DA4

I'm definitely looking forward for MEA more, much more. And I hope that MEA will be another trilogy. That way you can get more attached to the characters, to the story... get deeper into the game. DA series is okay but each instalment felt somewhat shallow due to each part having different protagonist, when compared to ME trilogy. Shepard will always have a special place in my heart.
