PROMISE ME STEVE

STEEEEEVEEEE!!!!!1111

(I'm still wondering how they managed to mangle this reaction enough to cause me to ROFL the first time I heard this... So fake...

but then again, as much as Mark Meer seems like a cool guy I simply can't stand most of his Shepard VA)

If I wasn't 99% sure it would be an MMO, or some other form of multiplayer only game, I'd be more interested in their new IP. I'd like to be wrong. Historically, Bioware has done well introducing new franchises, they've just struggled with sequels.

After ToR I'm 99% sure BioWare isn't going to be attempting another MMO anytime soon.

I'd argue, as a franchise, Dragon Age isn't even in the same level as Mass Effect. Even though I liked all three, especially Inquisition, none of them come close of the best of Mass Effect.

Yeah... Still, off the top of my head I can't really remember a really successful EA MMO, do they have anything like that?

Their niche is sports games me thinks.

Relative to what?... I don't think any of EA's MMO's were considered a major success in MMO terms.

ToR was one of, if not the most, expensive game ever made. It was originally hyped up as this huge thing and started off pretty well but then tanked in subscribers and went free to play within a year which is usually a fairly bad sign for a subscription MMO to do.

Admittedly these days they've seemed to have carved out a decent niche for themselves, but I imagine it's not something EA wants to pump that much money into a second time.

I remember jumping on the TOR train at the beginning, the disparity between the hype and the amazing trailers to the actual game was rather large...

I still enjoyed the few Class stories I played through, just wished that I could have had them without all the MMO BS that I had to swallow with them.

I remember feeling: "Do I really need to play through all the empire quests of Belsavis just to get to the interesting bit of story that I really wanted?"

It didn't take long until I gave up on it.

Tried going into it again now as a trial to see if I should buy the expansion, but the graphics and mechanics didn't really age well. (at least for me)

Yeah, I got it at launch too. It was fun up until end game fumbled horribly and there wasn't much else for my guild to do. Most of us were veteran WoW raiders who just blew through the ToR raids like they were nothing.

Honestly at this point I'd just want BioWare to make an entire single player game inspired by the Imperial Agent storyline. I loved the story, but it'd be better without all the MMO getting in the way.

Yeah... About that.... I don't think it's going to happen as much as I may wish otherwise.

I enjoyed the Inquisitor story, the Jedi knight story (consular was meh...), and from what I saw of the imperial agent it seemed like it was also a good story.

I mean, if they really wanted to, I guess they can make a KOTOR 3 or something, but it just seems to me that killing the franchise is the likely thing to do for EA.

I have always preferred ME to DA.  I love both but ME is the priority for me.  That said while I am looking forward to ME A I am not superhyped for it like I was for ME 2 and ME 3.  That is because I was so invested in the original trilogy's story and characters I wanted to see what was going to happen next.  I wanted know if Tali would ever step foot on her homeworld,  I wanted to see if Wrex would ever get to live to see the genophage cured, I wanted to see how my efforts would affect the way humanity is viewed in the galaxy, I wanted to learn more about the Reapers etc....  All I know about ME A so far is that I am leading a colonization effort for humanity in another galaxy.  There is a lot of potential in that but I suspect it won't be until I play the game that I get truly emotionally invested it.  Whether or not I get into it the way I got into the Shepard trilogy remains to be seen.  I am looking forward the exploration and gameplay mechanics more than anything else right now.

I should also note that the trespasser dlc got me super pumped for DA 4 and I am really looking forward to that whenever that comes out.  Bioware seems to be taking more time with their games now.  It's been four years since ME 3 came out and there was a 3 1/2 year gap between DA 2 and DA I in which I believe DA I benefited.  DA I had it's critics but overall I felt like it was a good game and it was a step in the right direction for the franchise.  So I am confident that ME A will have it's gameplay and exploration mechanics nailed down nicely.  Hopefully they take a good look at DA I and avoid some of it's mistakes (such as long stretches of grindy busywork content, and Skyrim style dialogue sequences)

Totally this. Also, I would like to know if this game is going to be a part of a trilogy as the other ME games, where you have the same protagonist through the three games, or if they are going to follow the Dragon Age route: one protagonist per game. The continuity in the story and characters would help me a loooot to get invested. I rather have the same protagonist and see his or her evolution in Andromeda's story

Yep, I am glad they moved on from Shepard since that story is over but I want to see if that can establish that continuity in the new story and if the new characters will be as interesting.  If the new story and the new characters get me as hooked as I got when I first played ME 1 then it has the potential to hook me the way the original trilogy did.  That is of course assuming that they decide to go the same route again with the continuity between games like the original trilogy did.  What DA does is sort of an indirect continuity.  Characters and story elements will carry over between DA games but each DA game has a different cast with a different protagonist, I think a more direct continuity benefits ME more.

I played ME first before DA so I'm looking forward to this game more. I do like both though, and am excited to see what they could do with DA4.

ME never interested me - despite playing ME1 and liking the Kaidan romance (I think that's the only thing about ME that was worth it) and I'm slowly kind of losing interest in DA itself due to DAI, I really liked DAO and that's pulling me through this faze of wanting to just to leave the DA series be....

I don't care which really. I admit to being kind of addicted to BioWare's brand of colorful characters and lush fantasy backdrops. Whichever comes first will simply get my money first.

It doesn't have to be in the Star Wars universe, I'm just a sucker for espionage stories =P

The IA one was well done but as you mentioned before, all the other stuff gets in the way. I get a few cool missions dealing with my IA stuff and then it's "Sorry, do the entire planet to level up enough to be able to do the next mission".

My guess is also that KotoR as a franchise will be dead after ToR is done. I seem to recall EA mentioning something about BioWare working on a Star Wars game when they got the licence to make them from Disney, although I'm not sure if that was referencing continuing work on ToR or something else.

Even if it is something else however, I'd imagine it will try to link up with the new movies as they come up and will probably be from that time period. Especially considering that Disney has ruled the entire Old Republic era that BioWare created to be non canon.

Why do I have to be angry? I'm just expressing my opinion.

I found DA: Origins to be decent but overall it's never been a preferred franchise for me. I've gone back to the ME trilogy multiple times. I can't even sit through DAI for 2 full playthroughs. I'm not that into fantasy as I am Sci fi, but I can still enjoy them and there are better fantasies out there than DA in gaming. ME was in a league of it's own in terms of video games, though. Everyone knew it, hence the huge backlash about it's ending. The franchise was among one of the biggest of last gen and had a huge impact on many.

My biggest gripe about the DA franchise is how everything seems to revolve around mages, the chantry and after 3 games of focusing on the oppression of mages and yadda it's just boring. I feel as though without that trope, DA just loses it's identity altogether and just becomes another fantasy game whereas ME is so rich that it doesn't matter that the big bad of the franchise (reapers) are gone. It has a lot more to lean on. It doesn't help that I don't really find any of the races or the main enemies in DA (darkspawn) interesting. They're basically just demons, bleh been there 3892823828923 times. ME we went from zombies, giant worms, psychopathic AI, mind controlling plant thingies, giant bugs, sea monsters.

If pushed I'd chose DA, but really....I just want another BioWare game, any will do.
