..........

.....................

The guy is an ass, like, seriously, for me he took the Assholery crown from Arl Howe with little effort.

I can deal witht the fact that he gave Cory, and in so doing killed thousands of people, because the whole Dread Wolf thing is Badass as all hell...... but seriously?

Destroys the world once, goes to sleep, wakes up, gives to a maniac the means to destroy the world, kills/abrorbs/whatevers the single most interesting character of DA (and in so doing becomes interesting himself) and then, because he feels sorry about destroying the world the 1st time, he plans tod estroy it a 2nd time? I was litterally begging my Inquisitor to not freaking kneel in front of the crazy egomaniac and just stab the heck out of him.

But, more seriously, Bioware has really done a good job with Solas, the moment when i saw him in full-armor destroying hordes qunari without even trying was the moment i felt silly for trying to rush every fight so that my Vashot could be the one to kill him.

Plus, the fact that he was the one who actually made The Inquisitor him/herself coupled with how easily he just completely destroys any sense of power we may have gathered during the whole game(like, seriously, he could destroy the Inquisitor with a sparkle of the eyes AND seems to have spies everywhere in The Inquisition itself)..... it really made me understand the "Dread" part.

Amazing character, hate him and still wanna kill him, but amazing character. (If only Kai Leng was more like him )

Where the Thalmor are openly condescending and think themself as inherently superior to most other races on Tamriel, Solas openly admits that Elvhenan was "no better than Tevinter" in its day, and fully accepts that the elves were not that great even at the height of thier empire. Further Solas does express interest in a great amount of cultures, religions and races (with one possible notable exception being the Qun).

But yes, Solas is a dangerous potential future-antagonist not just because he is just powerful, but because he actually has the smarts to make use of it. This contrasts with Coryphaeus who essentially had the power to be reborn when he died and had a hefty army and just threw forces at everything with no apparent strategy (that, I'd wager, was mostly left to his advisors). Solas is more dangerous than Coryphaeus ever was. He was smart enough to deceive us the entire game, run a spy network, and then proceed to edge ever closer to his end goal while most of the world is oblivious to his presence.

So I'd say bioware wrote a pretty engaging enemy for us to deal with.

Yeah....

The Thalmor of the 4th era do everything from intentional race purges in Valenwood to calculated civil war incitement among the other nations. All to add to their already powerful and prosperous nation in the Summerset Isles and their connected Vassal States.

If I were to draw a Solas parallel i'd be more prone to sticking him with Ysgramor. They are not exactly the same, not by far, but they do have that whole 'I am making a land for my about-to-die people even at the cost of an another race' vibe. But where Ysgramor was fueled by vengeance, he is fuled by sorrow.

Of course, this glosses over the fact that Solas's people are by and large already dead, whereas the Atmorans were largely still alive even though the continent was implied to be going through a major change of some sort that would leave the continent uninhabitable.

The goal of the Thalmor is to unmake the world (Tamriel and Nirn) so that they, the Thalmor, can return to their Aedric immortal form. Or they think something like that is possible. The Thalmor also look down on those who are not Altmer (and on Altmer who don't agree with them) because they are impure in their eyes.

Solas wants to destroy the Veil and unmake the world as it currently is so that the can restore the world to the time of the Ancient Elves. Or he thinks that something like that is actually possible and achievable (even though none of his plans have actually worked and he has to contend with awakened Titans, awakened Evanuris, powerful demons like the Nightmare, the Blight, etc). To Solas, the people in Thedas are not real people to him, they are Tranquils.

So yes, Solas shares many similarities with the Thalmor.

What? Thalmor are great! It's a rite of passage for each new Skyrim character to kill one of their patrols as early as I can find one. Very satisfying and a good early equipment boost.

The Thalmor/Solas thing was meant more as a joke, but they do have some parallels between them.

Personally, i find Solas much more disturbing because he actually shows emotions different from disgust (unlike, say, the Thalmor who are jsut elitist idiots with no real depth to them) and yet is still capable of..... "selective apathy", i guess?

Which is why offing Solas' head in DA4 will be an excellent rite of passage for the DA4 protagonist. Just imagine the loot and the chance of wear his wolf jawbone as a trophy.

Yeah....hobo rags, the head of Mr. Baldness the Great, and a wolf jawbone.

....are you sure there is no greater loot elsewhere? Like, maybe Abelas or Flemeth?

Abelas and Flemeth has no plans to destroy the world so there is no reason to off their head.

Abelas and Flemeth has no plans to destroy the world so there is no reason to off their head.

Flemeth, when asked why Mythal came to her: "For a reckoning that will shake the very heavens."

Flemeth speaking on the state of things: "things happened that were never meant to happen! She was betrayed as I was betrayed... as the world was betrayed!"

Flemeth speaking of Mythal: "She crawled and clawed her way through the ages, and I will see her avenged!"

Yeah... not so sure she's no plans to do something that will be more or less destructive to the world as we know it.

Right now I wouldn't bet on Flemeths nebulous goals not being malicious. Too little information on them is avaiable and her rants about vengeance aren't very comforting. Then again her current status is ambigiously dead so maybe she doesn't have any plans at all any more.

But the loot....

It may not be much, but those two might give better stuff away. Solas' will probably give stuff like sentinel plat armor with no enchantments, hobo overclothing and an ugly necklace.

Flemeth has at least some sense of fashion and has some wicked boots/gloves that'll look nice on any inquisitor. And Abelas will most likely have something ceremonial on him that's at least good for holding as a trinket. Might even have bit of power in it.

Solas reminds me more so of Kreia from KOTOR II, who like Solas was also sort of 'know-it-all' and was also a villain hidden in plain sight.

Nah, Kreia was never a villain. She just was (and now i feel like her)

Seriously, in my opinion she wasn't a villain. She was a Mentor, and everything that that entails.

If there's a secret villain in Kotor 2 that's Atris, selling out the jedi on Katarr and acting superior in spite of it. Also, the freaking remaning jedi qualify as villains too for their close mindedness and prejudice
