Alistair.

But as a woman.

Cullen

As a gay man. When he talks, I want to see little purses fall out.

i didn't ignore it. i disagreed with it. what you're talking about is used all the time to adjust a character's sexuality away from something a person is uncomfortable with or dislikes. there are guys who fanboy all over Merrill but don't want to acknowledge that she's attracted to women too, maybe because they automatically associate bisexuality with promiscuity or they just feel all possessive. the "headcanon" youre describing is usually tantamount to gay and bi erasure and while there's no stopping people from trying to do that mentally it still gets a  from me.

A fanboy not wanting to acknowledge something that was written is one thing. If it was never written in the first place and is left to be authored by the player, that's another.

I don't request that Merrill's bisexuality is erased. If the writer writes someone as gay, I would not disrespect them and ask them to take it away.

I speak of future characters not yet born.

We have a limited narrative space. We have limited themes to explore. Perhaps I feel resources are better spent elsewhere. Not only that, but sometimes loving an important character is such an important aspect of the story, a sexuality barrier prevents a large section of players from experiencing it. Like Isabela, or Solas. If you don't romance them, a lot is missed. Playersexuality solves that.

Finally, by your logic I'm not just erasing bi and gay representation.

I am also erasing hetero.

I personally don't see with people wanting sexually ambiguous, regardless of whether or not I agree. I remember some people are arguing for sexually ambiguous characters.

The thing is you're assuming Solas would be romanceabled if they make everyone romanceable by everyone. As Allan stated, we would only have 4 options, so many of the options we have in DAI may no longer be available and options we could have had in DA4 may no longer be available if they make everyone available regardless of gender.

Illyria, they can have both Cullen and Blackwall, actually. All my liking of Cullen has sort of gone, which is sad...

Solas wouldn't be an option if everyone was bi.

In order for Bull or Josie to be romanced BW had to make 8 seperate sets of scenes, plus have four different set of dialogue recorded.  Cassandra, Blackwall, Sera and Dorian each have 4 sets of scenes, with two sets of dialogue each.  Cullen has two sets of scenes and two sets of dialogue.  Solas has one set of scenes, and two sets of dialogue.

That all costs money, and takes time (the only reason Bull has the full 8 sets of scenes is thanks to Epler working overtime.)

Dorian and Cass are my reason for rolling guys (I have a Lavellan lined up for Dorian, but can't decided between mage or rogue; and a mage Adaar for Cass).

I'll trade you Zev, Fenris, Anders, Dorian and Bull for Seb prior to becoming a Brother (you know, the actual rogue he once was) as a bi LI.

Lol, I'm just talking about the male options for romance. You can only substitue Harding or Charter with a female option. :D

Just throwing some ladies names in there.  This thread is about what we want in a romance, after all.  For guys... how about Servis? (he's actually a character I wish I'd seen more of.  Not too sure I'd actually romanace him, though)

(I am honestly hoping that Harding is going to be one of the LIs in DA4).

For some reason, when you said Servis, my mind thought you were talking about Erimond, and I was like hell no! lol

I'd drop a bomb in an elven alienage if I could romance one of the male qunari statues that come with the Par Vollen decoration.

Hot man tiddy and butt. Also long hair. Also thighs.

I really want a strong and stoic warrior in the next game, so I would rather not to have another mage or rogue, Instead of Knight in Shining Armor, I wouldn't mind a Knight in Sour Armor, someone who's a bit jaded like Archer from Fate Stay Night. An idealistic hero who has been betrayed his his ideal vision. That would actually be perfect with a Tevinter templar.

Is Dorian openly gay? He hides his sexuality from the public. I would think it would be easier for straight guys to accept gay characters to act like them rather than feminine. Anyway, feminine gay guys are so prevalent in the media that a masculine gay guy would actually be something different from Bioware.

Going back to this briefly: Yes.

Dorian doesn't talk about his sexuality frequently in public, but he doesn't hide it either. He easily mentions that the desire demon who attempted to seduce him took a male form, for example.
