Kiiiiind of:

Nathaniel: You don't always wear robes, do you?
Anders: Not when I'm naked I don't.

Nah, that was just a joke. Anders was mage Alistair back then, remember?

Besides...

"Anders: "I'm not only a dwarf, I'm a moron! Listen to me fart!"
Oghren: "Oh no, big templar man! What are you going to do with that sword?"
Anders: Eww.
Oghren: Don't play with fire unless you want to get burned, son."

This guy definitely wasn't bisexual back in DAO:A.

Lelianna with her job as a bard probably has her fair share and she would be readily jumps in bed with Isabela for a four some.

I don't want to touch the mess that is DA2 where they want them to be sexually ambiguous, but then the bisexual erasure accusation being raised, so they change it to bisexual. Fenris was also written from the perspective of a gay character based on David Gaider's blog. That's why I said canonically bisexual characters.

Okay, one quick google search and I got this: http://dragonage.wik...ia_to_a_Fangirl

Quoting Xelestial here: Favorite part: Gaider wrote the Fenris romance with a male Hawke in mind! I am a F!Hawke/Anders, M!Hawke/Fenris girl so this was neat to me. The rivalry romance was the one he wrote first, and the one he prefers. He absolutely insisted on the whole slamming against the wall bit. Which, oh god, great judgment call. mmmf, hawt

He wrote a bisexual character with the male protag in mind.  That's doesn't mean he's gay - it means that Garrett is the one Gaider pictured while writing the romance.  I can't speak for Gaider, but I can speak as a writer.  Dialogue doesn't just spontaneously appear on the page - you need to picture the characters, and hear their voices.  And, for whatever reason, he pictured m!Hawke.  That doesn't stop Fenris being attracted to women, or prevent him from being bisexual.  You may as well say that rival route is more canon because he wrote that first.

If you go by Bioware history, none of the lesbian options was actually a tough or masculine females, they tend to be feminine. Lelianna, Isabela, Merrill, Sera, Josephine, Liara, kelly, Snooki, Samantha. It would be a bit questionable whether ME games made lesbian for straight guys or for lesbians based on comments like Asari is not a lesbian or a race of bisexual blue alien female that breeds exclusively with other race to get pregnant. Not that there's anything wrong with it; it's just that who are their intended target audience? Similar to the gay characters, do they think people would appreciate a world where gay people are being treated as normal people or a world where gay people are once again the outcast and being treated horribly by society?

Isn't that a good thing? That's another stereotype, that lesbians look like dudes, and that they're not really attractive. The hot "lesbian" thing is really a hot bisexual since heterosexuals fantasize about women kissing for threesomes. Bisexuals get the stereotype that they're very sexy, and are oversexualized all the time. Something that bioware is guilty of too.

As for what they think, I think their intended target audience is as many people as they can get. And sex sells. Asari are literally an entire race of chicks that anyone and everyone can screw, that is ultimate convenience. Especially with them looking so humanoid. It's likely for both straight males and lesbians, especially since they can get pregnant, male or not.

Yeah, that was Oghren he was speaking to.  That is the standard response of anyone being hit on by Oghren (joking or serious).

Just as a general note, I'd argue that we need to be careful when talking about "breaking" stereotypes when it comes to LGBT characters, as while a character portrayal might be stereotypical, there are also people in real life that that might accurately represent, whether it be the more "masculine" lesbian or the more "effeminate" gay man.

Would have prefered a bi Seb instead of Anders anyway (and I'm not an Anders hater in the slightest). Also, he should have been included in the vanilla game (same for Zaeed, Kasumi and specially Javik in ME).

The thing is that there wasn't any gay option, and only lesbian option. They continue it in ME2 with Kelly being the only bisexual options. All of the lesbian options are shared with guys, so basically, you were on point with the bisexual females being "hot", it was catered to straight guys. My roommate is a straight guy, and he watches lesbian porn exclusively, so not everyone wants to see a guy in the picture, and especially for guys who like to play female characters.

Anyway, nothing wrong with the lesbian options being feminine, but it would be cool to offer some variety, afterall, they have a gay angst, gay conversion guy who's metrosexual and into fashion. It wouldn't be a stereotype for lesbians if there are other options to counterbalance it.

Pretty sure Gaider has said that he thought it was obvious that Anders was bi in DAO:A.

That's the dominant perception is a problem, in the media, you see gay men often being portrayed as an accessory for straight women, or effeminate, and fashion loving. My friend who is very pro-gay think that there needs to be an effeminate gay guy in a relationship and some other friends and family thinks that being gay, you need to be effeminate. There is a lack of these average, masculine everyday gay guys to counterbalance out these views.

Never said there wasn't an issue. I only said to take care when talking about breaking stereotypes, nothing more.

Ah yea, I guess Sera and Dorian are pretty much the only real lesbian and gay characters they've made, right?

The excuse that lesbians can't have a Jack or Cass because of stereotype wears very thin.

I would have kinda liked to flip Cass and Josie, cause that would've been cool. Granted, I'd romance Cass no matter what the romance locks, but it would have been cool for people that wanted a lesbian romance to be able to romance Cass.

She was, but for some reason, it worked as Bi for me. I didn't realize she was lesbian until I came here.
