You're not a villain, you just have bad teeth. :P

Most Americans love British and French accent, to be honest. I have never heard of British being villain. The stereotypes I have heard of British are they have bad teeth and proper. When you see a high class character, they speak with a British accent.

On a big side note, they used to use a faux accent in movies. Dubbed Mid-Atlantic English.  It's not British, but aristocratic sounding. Like Katherine Hepburn... I guess.

Well, i'm British so i'm apparently a villain according to most American media. So many villains have British accents even when every other character is American and it doesn't make sense (The Lion King and Sleeping Dogs being two of the more egregious examples.) Even when the bad guy is American he's played by a British actor, putting on an accent haha. Like Gary Oldman playing the part of Lee Harvey Oswald in JFK.

Scar is my ****** tho, lol. Favorite character in Lion King.

Honestly, we mostly poke fun at Great Britian, we don't see you as villains. Well, maybe black people do because of historical junk, but at the same time they and everyone else still loves Harry Potter, lol XD.

Snape is the ****.

Anyway, no most Americans don't see British people as villains, they just make villains slightly feminine, and we think the British accent is feminine, lol. Sorry :P

It's called the evil Brit trope. I'm talking about films, TV and videogames though, not just everyday stereotypes.

The thing is do people make stereotype of British people with being evil though? Stereotype with gays and racial minorities can connect with their identity more because the lack of exposure, they're noticeably difference in their looks and/or behaviors. At least from where I live, stereotypes are not bad, especially if most people dismiss it untrue, but stereotype becomes bad when it affects how others are being viewed and treated by society like the nerdy, virgin Asian guys or black guys are violent and aggressive and robbers.

That's why saving before each conversation is a good idea!  :wizard:  Though I don't over-do this on a first playthrough, it's good in case a paraphrase was totally different from what you expected. I don't do it to gain max approval, I just want to know what my options are and pick the one most suited to my character.

Oh I do that too. :)

Tbh I don't remember which option I used with my Inquisitor.  I just know I didn't use the Hug-one. Might've been the "I'm sorry" one.

Indeed, besides it's just the guys that say that. Women, well, you see how they responded to Mr. Cumberbatch, lol. He gets all the bitches.

Had a British guy come here in highschool, and all the chicks loved his accent.

It was a joke. It was a post to show what people would see me as if people took media representation seriously, but luckily they don't. And American women just LOOOOOVE our accent/s which is a bonus.

Actually, Americans just love European accents in general. Guys and girls with a European accent become more desirable in general.

I especially loved the accents of Eastern European women on my vacation.

I'm from Pennsylvania. I'm not aware of any region-specific stereotypes for it. I have the Generic American Accent™, which is fairly common in pop culture.

Well, there's all the Penn State jokes and Ridge Runner stereotypes, which basically equates to country bumpkin jokes for mountain roamers.

Something I do find hilarious though is in the Resident Evil games Wesker actually sounds more and more British as he becomes more evil. That's the only time i've seen that done and it's amazing.

No, we don't, but that doesn't mean that americans don't like european accents in general. ;)

Just as some people I know in RL who love british accents. :)

Not that they can tell them apart.  Bioware pretty much cast the dalish elves in DA2 with the hope that non-british players wouldn't know the difference between a welsh and irish accent.

Well, I played DAI in german first and I can say, in the german dub, NO ONE has an accent :(

Orlesians use some french words and sound generally snobish, but that's it.

I switched to english some time ago and wow :o

I do agree that I can't tell welsh and irish apart, but that's more, because I don't know the difference. :( I'm more used to the difference between US english and british english.

Edit: just saw that's about DA2

The only character in the german dub of DA2 with an accent, specifically in Mark of the Assassin, is Duke Prosper.  <_<

Edit 2: here a video from before I switched languages.

Spoiler

The more people grow up in mixed communities (even slightly so), the more this bullshit won't phase them. Because things right in front of your face always hit home. The media doesn't have power over that. Over everyday life.

Tbh, I'm half-Asian so I avoid the worst kind of stereotypes. But even then, I only see it from rednecks. I live in the US South, and believe it or not, most people are cool. You'd think there'd be rednecks everywhere, but there isn't :P

I'm half-asian too yay

*runs back out*

*note I disagree that the south is cool. I was constantly bullied growing up in Texas and racists made my entire childhood a living hell for my family and I.

I grew up being bullied by racists, black and white, but just because I've had bad experiences doesn't mean I'm gonna say all of the south is bad. Or even most. People will have bad experiences growing up everywhere. And times have changed.

I can't describe to you the stark contrast.
