Lol, I didn't even know Juhani was even a thing till I came here. Only played male Revan, who I role played as gay lol.She was, but for some reason, it worked as Bi for me. I didn't realize she was lesbian until I came here.

Ah yea, I guess Sera and Dorian are pretty much the only real lesbian and gay characters they've made, right?
Dorian is being praised as the first gay character written by Bioware (Steve is chopped liver apparently
) Yeah, he was the first gay character for DA and the first gay companion for Bioware. With being the "first" gay character, I was hoping they would have gone with someone less of a stereotype, especially when his story is bringing attention to his sexuality instead of being just a part of him. I want them to show that being gay is normal and being treated as normal instead of not only the gay conversion but also hiding his sexuality from the public. It's weird how lesbian characters like Sera and Samantha being lesbians are not a big deal to them and they have storyline unrelated to them being gay.

There is also Juhani, Samantha Traynor, and Steve Cortez.
Sorry, I meant like main roster characters.

I would have kinda liked to flip Cass and Josie, cause that would've been cool. Granted, I'd romance Cass no matter what the romance locks, but it would have been cool for people that wanted a lesbian romance to be able to romance Cass.
It would be better to have them both be bi. Cass being in ladies would break the BW trend of butch women only being into men, and Josie is a very sweet and fairytale-like romance and it is fantastic that women get to experience a (non-het) romance like that.

Those are main roster characters. Though if by that you mean companions that fight then there is still Juhani.

That said, those kinds of stories deserve to be told, but at the same time, I feel like we need a hell of a lot more variety. We had our after school special in DAI. Can we get something different in DA4?

Well, being gay isn't "normal" but there's nothing wrong with being abnormal. Most people aren't normal, but they're still people. That's how I look at it. It's certainly not so strange anymore though that everyone should make a big deal about it, and I think Bioware did that with Dorian. Yes, his father tries to change him, but not just because he's gay. He tried making him straight with bloodmagic because he thought that was the reason he didn't like the chick he was supposed to marry. He was wrong, and I think that also is good, as it shows Dorian didn't like her personality, not just because he was gay, which in my mind draws away from his sexuality being center stage, so to speak.
And up to that point, no one even mentions Dorian's sexuality. Honestly, it didn't come off to me as overly flamboyant because he was a tevinter mage, lol.

Battlebloodmage is trying to mock straight guys.
It's ironic in a thread that's about avoiding stereotypes he is stereotyping.

I'd only complain if it was done for players' sake. I'm glad the writers made orientations.. the characters aren't real, but I think it's fair to give them their own minds. And didn't make them just tools to fulfill the player's wishes.

I would love Cass to be bi, but I also love Josie and her romance. And I think being able to have the tropes that Josie's romance has are also highly important for lesbian/bisexual women. Not every romance has to be tears and angst. Sometimes you want Disney and fairytales.

What do you mean by isn't "normal". I would have prefer if they treated it like Steve where him having a husband was just treated as a regular thing, Shepard didn't make a big deal or even act surprised. That's what we call an allegory, it's allure to real life problems that gay people face, not only with the gay conversion but him hiding his sexuality from the public, how he treats sex as a no-string-attached, a problem that is very relevant among gay men. Seeing as how Dorian was written from David Gaider's personal experience, it has to do with his sexuality. Still, I would have prefer for another Steve instead of another Dorian.

I was talking about how the media reacts and how Bioware treats Dorian rather than whether it actually is or isn't.
