You do see plenty of interracial relationships althroughout history, actually. There's constant intermingling, people just expect the babies to always be noticeably mix blooded, and they're not.
Not that I buy the accent idea but it's no secret that most people today come from various backgrounds and descent. Which is why the people claiming to be pure blooded are so ignorant, they're not pure to begin with. I'm talking more than "black and white", as Caucasians aren't a "race" and are rather numerous in variety despite modern social grouping.
Yeah, that's completely true. And I am distinctly aware of the bolded because I have enough (Canadian) First Nations' ancestry to qualify for programmes and the like even though I look totally white. Pale, even.
For the accent thing, I wouldn't say it's anything biological either, it's probably just as simple as people liking "exotic" things and a foreign accent being relatively unique in their homeland, things like that.
Depending on the races, Asian women and white men are the highest interracial couples. There are a lot of stuffs to take into account for when it comes to interracial relationship and also has cultural and societal influence. This is not really a thread to discuss that, to be honest.
Yes, definitely a lot of things to take into account, and I did take them into account. I wasn't trying to imply that interracial relationships were unheard of or anything, and I have no doubt they'll become more common as we go on. I was mostly just not buying that there is an inherent biological urge to seek a partner who has a different accent, even if I understand the whole genetic diversity angle. But yeah, not really the place to discuss it, sorry.
What about Cullen that makes you like him as a romance? What features in his romance that you want to have as a lesbian option.
Almost everything
And obviously part of it is that I like Cullen as a character, which is sort of required for the rest. He's a dedicated, loyal, strong-willed knight in shining/sour armour. He's duty-bound, but not to the point of zealotry. He's professional, but willing to fraternize. He's awkward and romantic, while occasionally deadpan and funny.
I like that the romance is primarily about just that: romance. There is sex, but it's not the foundation of the relationship. And personally, how they did the sex scene was perfect for my tastes (I realize this will be different for everyone). There was some sensuality (desk scene, woot), then fade to black, then the next morning. So there is still a scene, but it's not explicit.
I like that there is so much bonding, the support you can give him during his Perseverance quest (and the hug that shouldn't have been romance-specific), the solemn moment in the chapel before the final battle where he admits he's scared to lose you, along with another hug. And yet another hug when you come back safely. I also liked that hug because it's not only in public, but everyone's attention is on you. Why? I want the same thing in a lesbian relationship and I'm sure you want the same thing in a gay one: To not have to hide it. To be proud of your partner.
I loved the hilarious mix of feelings that was the first kiss scene. Awkward, then hilarious when the guard walks in at exactly the wrong time and the deathglare Cullen gives him, how embarrassed the Inquisitor looks, then surprising when he does kiss you.
I liked the awkwardness of the flirting at the beginning. Just all of it. Like during the chess scene.
Cullen: This may be the longest we've gone without discussing the Inquisition - or related matters. To be honest, I appreciate the distraction.
Inquisitor: We should spend more time together.
Cullen: *smiles* I would like that.
Inquisitor: Me, too.
Cullen: ...You said that. (Almost muttering to himself in disbelief)
I also liked that my character could be the awkward one some of the time, which is a nice change. I like that he's polite and chivalrous (for lack of a better term), and doesn't want to overstep his bounds, though I wouldn't mind the LI making advances instead of the player sometimes. I like that he's not above talking about his feelings with you. He's a great guy who has his troubles and flaws like everyone. I liked that you could kiss him anytime (which I did surprisingly often), though I wish that option also included cuddling and spending time together, like playing chess. No dialogue necessary for those.
A minor complaint is that locking the romance was tied directly to having sex for the first time; ideally you could lock it in sooner as well as skip or delay sex, but that's not a Cullen-specific thing. I also would have liked to say "I love you" more than just the one time (especially since if you want to say it at all you can't pick anything else in that scene), but again that's just a huge problem for Bioware in general, not Cullen
TL;DR: I liked how awkward it was, how heartwarming, and how romantic, with a healthy amount of humour thrown in!
