Talking about female tropes, it does feel weird if it applies to guys. I was just thinking about a stalking girl with a crush, and she would be considered cute, but a stalking guy with a crush, and you will have a creep. A yandere girl is moe, a yandere guy is a psychotic possessive douche. A tsundere girl is cute with her sudden bust of anger is caring, but a tsundere guy would kinda make him have an anger problem. It was just random thoughts I have since I was just thinking about how certain tropes were to reverse and how people would view it in general. Although some tropes can transfer between each other very well, like the archetype of character with little words and emotionless, as long as they're good looking, it doesn't matter guy or girl, I can see people go goo goo gaa gaa over them. Seen that for both guys and girls in fictions. :P

Maybe because society has certain roles and expectations for guys and girls, so certain tropes would feel like it fit certain gender more. Guys have certain expectations to be strong and stoic and protective while females are being viewed as more on nurturing role. It's like guys don't cry. Archetypes and tropes exist for a reason. It's just something familiar to the writers and people usually get their inspiration from the surrounding and what had been taught to them. I kinda want them to venture out into more different tropes like a guy who is more sensitive or a slobby female. I'm not saying they should do that, but it's just something they should think and explore while writing.

The stalking guy with a crush is actually not as uncommon as you make it out to be. Just think of popular female-marketed stories. Twilights Edward Cullen is stalking the female main lead all the time, and it apparently is considered as cute by many people since that franchise actually managed to get a huge following. Same with the rich dude from 50 Shades of Grey, and pretty much at least 40% of all the light romance novel and teenage urban fantasy male love interests. Hell even in the little experience I have with anime it wasn't unusual for the main to stalk a girl he had a crush on (mostly when she was on a date with some other dude). In general the rule that seems to apply is: If he's somehow good looking it's cute, if he's ugly, he's a creep.

My favorite Elves are the Dunmer of Elder Scrolls and the Aen Elle of the Witcher. Both can be are massive arrogant pricks.

However, you can understand why they are a bunch of arrogant pricks because they are actually strong, very capable and powerful. They even look the part. Have you seen how buff a Dunmer Battlemage can look ? Have you see the Elven meatslab that is Imlerith ?

You dare fight a Dunmer, n'wah ?!

Contrast the Dunmer and the Aen Elle with the Ancient Elvhen and the Dalish Elves of Thedas.

Having said that, as a human male, I would pick female Elves as romance partners all the time.

The fairy pretending to be a vampire.

I like Dunmer above all elves for lots of reasons. One being they're the most Lorkhanian elves out there, and two, they literally had a book that called Altmer "Pansy Elves", and that is epic.

Yeah, me neither, but apparently teenage girls love him, for whatever reasons.

What I want in a elf won't be available in DA series, I like a more muscular elf with a beard. DA elves can't grow a beard, and their body is too skinny, the elf is being described as beautiful and their eyes are pretty. I'm usually attracted to the masculine quality in a guy, so I usually like guys that have these quality.

GIMME.

Young teenage girls love androgynous or pretty guys in general. That would explain guys like Justin Bieber, Harry Style, Edward Cullen, etc. These girls are annoying and are usually attracted to what the media tells them to attract to. They are also pretty nasty to those who dare to question them. There was a rumor about Randy Marsh made a comment about Harry Style, and they made a bunch of racist remarks and calling her Asian boyfriend ugly all over twitter.

And here I thought everyone went through the phase of wanting to date a supernatural being that could possibly murder their face. I guess reading 'original fanfic' online as a kid had a bigger impact on me than I thought

Though my knowledge on that craze with the vamps is limited to 'sparkly vamps', 'love triangle' and 'imprinting babies'. Romance stories never interested me so never bothered to really look into it.

Well they are teenagers. All of those are annoying in some way and most also obnoxious by default (yes me during that time included).

I like a supernatural being that could possibly murder my face, not a sparkly vampire who looks like he needs 10 baths.

I like romance story, but it's depending on the tropes. Certain romances made for guys and girls follow different formula. For the guys, it's usually that unobtainable girl who's out of his league and he tries to impress her. For the girls, it's usually the strong, powerful and/or mysterious guy who protect the girl from any problem. I'm pretty much immune to it by now. I guess I just want something different.

LOL, even Halo got better love stories than twilight

Which reminds me, we haven't got a love triangle, right? That would be something new.

Same here. Though I've chalked that up to being a weirdo who for a long time liked to read on different supernatural things. (Used to read all kinds of vampire lore books at lunch and free time during highschool)

I can't really get into something that has romance as the driving force for the story but I think that's due to getting annoyed or tired of it with tropes in TV and movies and such. One of my least favorite being 'best friends start dating' or 'friend A has a thing for friend B even though they've been turned down x amount of times' though I doubt those kinds of tropes will really become too much of a problem in an rpg game like Dragon Age.

Well, we did have a love triangle in ME1 and DAO. They get catty and making you choose between them. I kinda like that. I want consequence to your action like in Witcher 3 where Geralt gets dumped by Yen and Triss. Unless it's an open relationship and we agree upon it, if he goes behind my back and flirt with other people, that's a big no-no, and I wouldn't ask him to choose, I would dump him right there. Still, it's an interesting concept if we are the third wheel instead to an existing couple. I remember they want to do a polyamory relationship where you join in a pre-existing relationship, but I guess we could also break up the couple and choose one of the partners in the relationship to be with.

Being a contrarian, I usually root for the people who serve as obstacles than the official couples. Official couples are always the most cliche in any relationship and the side characters who get in the way of their relationship are usually the more interesting ones. The official couples fall into pretty much the same pattern and same tropes everytime. In Dragon Age, there isn't an official couple, and there are many other characters to choose from. Still, just as I said in the OP, I want them to venture outside of the tropes we have in every game and have more variety like a romantic masculine gay guy or a horndog straight guy.

In the DAO? You also got a love triangle, if you do not wanted. :)

Morrigan and Lelianna get really catty with each other if you romance them both, talking about how Morrigan doesn't like sharing. She also comments on Zevran if you romance her and Zevran at the same time. At some points, they all force you to choose between one of them.

That's what I don't get, who the heck was the triangle? Anyway, no one has been better than Librarian/Didact/Endurance... Everyone ended screwed.

Don't remind me. My second Warden romanced Morrigan and was friends with Zevran. Once I wanted to talk to Morrigan, next moment she's telling my Warden how he dares having an affair "with the elf". I sat there flabbergasted, like... WTH!  My Warden had NEVER flirted with Zevran. I extra avoided all flirt lines and always went with his approval page on the DA wiki and I STILL had to breakup a non-existent romance.  <_<
