@VodeAn:  That isn't an answer.

Well, it might be... if you're Cole.

Are you Cole?

In all seriousness though, Disney is the paragon of PC, so forgive me if I don't trust their ability at making a well-written character who happens to be non-straight just yet (also considering TFA greatly dissapointed me).

@VodeAn: Of course not, if I were Cole why would I ask if you were.

Still - it's not an answer to my question about filling a quota.  Was this a quota you imagined in your head?  Are you a mage?  Mages can make things they imagine real.

Movies can "appear" to fill quotas - but those quotas remain imaginary until 1) the writer actually has a quota or 2) the person imagining the quota is a mage.

Whatever, not gonna happen anyway. And I don't have to answer any question, yours or anybody's (you think you can give me orders just like that????? Well, YOU CAN'T). I never said they were filling a quota, I said they MIGHT. I just HATE Political Correctness, and I fear they M.I.G.H.T. do it for that SOLE reason.

You're now blocked if you don't mind. I suggest you do not reply to my posts if you have the need to be so disgustingly aggresive (you may not be Cole, but... are you J. J. Abrahms?). Not going to speak to someone who takes such a small thing so personal and resorts to outright rudeness at the first mention of the word "quota" (I still haven't forgotten how you barged in my thread and did the same FOR NO GODDAMM REASON).

Oh, just one last thing, my true identity is neither Cole nor a mage (the likes of which I take extreme pleasure in slaying), my true name is...

I thought I'd heard the expanded universe and the others material had some sort of caste canonicity: The films were of the highest canonicity with the exception of Word of God and so their canonicity were correct even if they contradicted non-film material.

True, there were about five levels, that said, some content like the original Clone Wars, the first TFU and Thrawn's trilogy had Lucas' personal blessing and were considered as official as the movies.

If there was ever a non-straight character in upcoming SW films I hope to God is not Poe, I don't really like when people get labeled for what might or might not be, I just hope it would be done naturally and not to fill a quota.

Depending on how this is shown, I'd be fine with Poe being a non-straight character since I could see where this interpretation originated from and why people were speculated it to be possible.

I do wonder why you are mentioning Poe but nobody else: why is Poe the one you are specifically hoping will not be non-straight, if you don't mind me asking? The reason you are providing would fit other characters as well.

Disney have featured non-straight people in their shows including on their own channel, from what I've seen, and quite casually;

All that is now moot because all the EU is non-canon.

Except anything now produced by Disney.

Because some people see certain look he gave to Finn as something gay, I'd prefer if, I don't know, Hux or even Kylo were gay, some character who people wouldn't expect.

This actually ties into what the thread is about.

You don't want the heroic character to be gay, and would rather the villians be gay.

Honestly, Poe is gay as hell.  You do not bite your lip and say 'it looks good on you' to a bro.

I just like the bad guys, nothing wrong with that.

Also, keep in mind new characters could be introduced, both good and bad. But I don't get why a bad guy can't be gay, heck Kylo could be redeemed (Vader was after bleeding dry almost the whole Jedi Order).

I know its not a popular opinion, but I wish there were only 2 LIs per game, 1 male 'n' 1 female, romanceable by any character.

Could work in several games:

KOTOR: Carth, Bastila

TSL: Atton, Visas

ME: Ashley, Kaidan

ME2: Miranda, Jacob

ME3: Ashley, Kaidan

DAO: Morrigan, Alistair

DA2: Anders, Isabela

DAI: Cass, Solas

That's an absolutely terrible list for me, since that means I would have yet to have a romance option I like in either Mass Effect or Dragon Age.

Hey, the bad guys in TFA are awesome.  Kylo Ren is a genuinely interesting character.

But having the only gay characters also be villians is also connecting being gay to being deviant.  If there's also heroic gay characters then that is not implied by what is seen on screen.

I'd rather have the awesome Dark Jedi as gay than a pilot, but then I'm a Sith lover so I'm extremelly biased.

And they'd be wrong. it's a good example with a faulty conclusion. especially since stories do that kind of thing all the time.

No it's an example of someone going lalala, lol.

Stories do this all the time, yes, but reasons for the strangeness is given. Guarantee people that have no idea who Jack Churchill is would claim his story was unrealistic despite it actually happening. Unrealistic doesn't mean it can't happen.

Reality is Unrealistic as the trope goes. In many films and literatures, events or people have been toned down or outright left out because of concerns that it would seem too unrealistic to have happened and this has been shown to be well-grounded concerns.

Wow some people are pathetically thin skinned. Simply challenging one's way of thinking nowadays is worth blocking communication. I guess it's one step up from stoning though, lol.

I really don't get this. So any LGBT character Disney makes is automatically going to be a quota and nothing more? Disney writes all of its characters as fairly flat wish fulfillment stand ins, so why can't the gays get in on that?

The opinions tend to be very mixed around him... He certainly didn't give me a good impression most of time, especially in his fight against Rey.

I don't hold that fight against him as not only was he wounded, he was also severely emotionally compromised to say the least because of what he had done; he may have thought that act would provide him with the certainty he so needed and smother the part of him that was Ben but it seemed to only serve to cause the opposite effect. I quite like that: I found it to be a neat subversion.

Interestingly, one of the ways people sometimes tries to cope with overwhelming emotional pain is by inducing physical pain because it can temporarily distract them from the former. That is my interpretation of why Kylo Ren was repeatedly striking the wound in his during the fight. It fitted with the emotional state he appeared to be in and the situation he was trying and failing to focus all of himself on.

Did anyone else get the impression that Kylo Ren is mentally ill? I do not mean it as an insult but as him being legitimately mentally ill. I think it was an impression partially brought on by his scenes with the mask of Darth Vader but it may be that he is delusional and suffering from psychoses.

Snoke might have taken advantage of that by presenting the existence of the Force and Darth Vader's connection to it as evidence that Ben is not delusional about his grandfather and it could have been a way to distance him from his family especially from his uncle who saw Vader returned to the lightside as Anakin which would be contradictory to what Ben percieved as truth.

That is an interpretation of mine I like and if I remember correctly, some of Kylo Ren's behavior do fit though I'll have to wait until I have my hands on the film to provide further examples since I want to be sure I am not misremembering scenes.

It could, of course, also be that Kylo Ren's behavior is a result of his internal conflict and he is trying to hang on to the Darth Vader's connection through the mask to steady himself so to speak or that Snoke is manipulating Kylo Ren in some similar manners like through the Force.

Kylo Ren can be an interesting but very difficult kind of character to write and while I thought there were flaws in the writing, I thought they've done an above decent job so far and I am looking immensely forward to where they are taking this character.

I consider the Force Awakens to be the best film in the Star Wars franchise though I will remind folks that it is my personal and subjective opinion; I am not making an objective statement; I am merely voicing my opinion.

All in all, I do find Kylo Ren to be an interesting character and so far, I've liked all members of the cast.

I'm not thick-skinned, I admit it. But I just can't stand extremists, specially when said person purposedly derailed my thread, which I had to nuke (to be fair it was derailed by other people every few pages (you also had a hand in that), so it was the best option anyway).
