maybe it's the game, maybe it's the D&D rules, maybe it's me. these issues have been plaguing me since i first started the OC, and now that i'm in the MotB, it seems that they've only gotten worse.
there are literally DOZENS of things that happen, or don't happen, or don't work properly, but there are two that are the most pervasive and the most problematic:
1) my paladin cannot attack invisible enemies. and by that, i mean she cannot even TARGET them. i am currently fighting the slumbering coven, and they are literally invincible (i'll get to why they're immune to spells in a minute). i can see them. they turn to trees, and then heal literally faster than i can damage them. or sometimes they just stand there. or sometimes they summon allies, cast spells, punch me in the side of the head... and my characters just stand there. it's not just that the attacks miss, they literally cannot even be targeted.
my two melee fighters (including my paladin) have the feat called blind-fight. according to the description for this feat, i should be able to at least get a second roll against invisible enemies. well, that is a ****ing lie. i cannot even SWING THE ****ING SWORD. my character literally does nothing. so either something else is happening here, or the description is a ****ing lie.
i understand that there are two different statuses, concealment and invisibility. every reference i can find to concealment talks about it being a blanket percentage dodge. so i would understand if my paladin was struggling to CONNECT... but she cannot even initiate the attack. the other-- invisibility-- is supposed to be countered by blind-fight. well, that's a ****ing lie. even then, it is supposed to "cancel" if the character takes any action. that is also a ****ing lie.
again, this has been happening since the OC. i got fully wiped out seven times in the final dungeon-- not for being underleveled or poorly planned-- but because my teammates literally stood there and did not even defend themselves as they got torn apart. then, one time, it didn't happen, they actually used their swords... and i won those battles within seconds.
2) my casters cannot cast spells. similar to my paladin and her sword, they simply cannot be initiated. gann is not silenced, he has plenty of castings for ALL levels of spells, he's not engaged with an enemy, these enemies aren't even invisible (they are the summons from the invisible, invincible slumber coven)... but he simply CANNOT initiate spells. i click the button... nothing happens. unlike the attack thing, there simply is NO explanation for this (unless, of course, they're related).
also, safiya starts off this battle dead. i don't know why. she wasn't dead before i went into the dream worlds, but she's dead now. i've even reloaded (at this point, six times) from before i talked to the slumbering coven... and she's still dead by the time the battle starts. even after dove revives her, she dies in one hit. that is not an exaggeration, it's one hit. maybe she's got some serious constitution damage, but she's literally never been alive long enough for me to see it.
so in the case of magic, there's nothing for the game to even lie about... it just doesn't work.
given how much of the information about this game is ****ing lies; and how many things are completely, incompatibly, inexplicably written and re-written across it's many updates; and all of the random bugs and things that simply don't work; and the fact that you cannot see enemy status effects... it's perfectly conceivable that there are status effects of which i am not aware, that the game does not mention, and that have absolutely no indication in the game. if this is the case, what do i do? if-- as seems more likely-- this is a series of bugs... what do i do?
something is horribly broken here

well... i found a solution: i just walked away. safiya stayed dead until i fought my way back outside... but the coven members didn't follow me out. they kept casting at me as long as i was on (or near) the dais... but as soon as i got out of the room, i just had to contend with the minions. so maybe i've royally screwed up and i have permanently broken the game... but i'm out and i'm alive.

There is also possibility that one of the Coven cast Drown on Safiya. If she is under-equipped, not high enough level or been affected by some Fortitude damage, she can be dead in a mere rounds.
Regarding invisibility statuses, there are actually three kinds. The concealed and invisible, like you described,.......and etherealness. This last status is the one you found (most high level spellcasters have this). Ethereal creature can not be targeted by anything until the ethereal status expired. Not even by spells. And True Seeing won't help either. That's why neither Gann nor Safiya can target them once they become ethereal. However, ethereal creatures can still be affected by area spells (like Fireball, Horrid Wilting, etc) as long as you don't directly target them (target a visible area instead).
Hope that help.

Paragon animals have high Armor Class and Reflex. There are at least 2 ways to tackle this situation.
First, use multiple attacks. This fight favors characters with dual-wield since they got another attacks with similar attack bonuses from their main attacks.
Second, use spells which by-pass high AC and Reflex. There are spells which can do this. It isn't really that difficult.
For general advice, be prepared. MotB is a high level adventure, not high level adventurers vs low level setting. Lot of encounters require preparations specifically designed to tackle them (that's why you got a wizard & cleric instead of say, sorcerer). You can't simply charge and cleave through everything like in OC. If you run out of spells, retreat and rest.

I recently used a mod called Kaedrin's Pack (or something similar). This mod makes hit points modifiers to characters using CON-increasing items. The claimed purpose is to prevent HP stackings, but it can backlash to actually lowering your HP to near-fatal condition at area transitions (especially enforced ones like the battle vs the Coven).
Not just near-fatal -- it can actually kill you if your HP is low enough. It'll just whittle away at your HP with every area transition or game load, making it lower and lower, possibly without you even noticing, until your character dies. I've heard one of the recent versions included a way to turn off that feature, but I removed it manually in the older one, and never upgraded.

thanks for the help, guys.
i do have kaedrin's pack, so maybe that's why safiya was dead. at some point i noticed that a +con helmet was not-so-slowly killing dove... so i took it off. (she still has the same problem, but it's not as fast... i'll look for another +con item as well...)
as for the etherealness, i was not aware that was as third type; i just assumed it was a super-powered conceal. either way, even the description for etherealness says that it is canceled if you make any attacks. the slumbering coven was making dozens of attacks between spells, summons, and regular melee attacks, yet they were still ethereal. so either they had super-etherealness, or it's more ****ing lies. regardless, this at least means there is a game mechanic related to this problem.
the problem with the paragon animals was that i was out of decent spells. in the OC, i just rested between most skirmishes... but that's obviously not an option here.
speaking of which, how do you manage spirit energy effectively as a lawful good? i have read a few boards that talk about getting feats that allow you use your spirit-eater abilities on a broader selection of enemies... but here i am, at the end of chapter 2... and evidently those are ****ing lies as well. as it stands, i think the last time i was able to use "eternal rest" (or whatever it's called) was the monk in the vault of the god of the dead. can some one give me a list of enemies on which it DOES work? i know it works on undead, but i haven't seen any of those since the death god's vault.
also, how much damage is my curse supposed to be doing to me? it's about a third of the way down the bar, right around the "stage 2" mark. sometimes it does as little as 10 or 15 damage, and sometimes does 10 or 15 damage... but triggers over 10 times all at once. with that happening once every minute, even 460+ hp and regen +4 doesn't last too long. soo... what's the deal with that?

Eternal Rest only works on undead, but since you have spellcasters you can summon undead. But if you use Suppress instead, although it won't restore the bar as much, you'll be reducing your craving, so it doesn't run out so fast. With Suppress, you can do it with any spirit, such as elementals. Summon as many elementals as you can, and if possible also be near some other spirit creatures like telthors, and use Suppress. You'll soon find that the spirit meter becomes a very minor concern. See here:

Another, If you check at the remains of polymorphed enemies, you'll find an unremovable item added by Kaedrin's. I'm not sure what is the purpose of such item, but I guess it greatly enhanced the polymorphed forms as well as preventing them to forcefully revert back to original form. It seems possible that this item interferes with your enemies' status and give them effects which shouldn't be.
As for hunger, as said by Tchos, use Suppress. I usually use Suppress near that pestering spirit badger in Mulsantir. Have Gann & Kaelyn summon elementals and Safiya summon orglash. You can usually recover spirit more than you lost while resting.
Another method is using Eternal Rest at Myrkul's Vault. You see those urns ? Don't destroy them all at once. Instead, destroy them one by one whenever your spirit is low. Each urn held one ghost-like undead. Use your Eternal Rest against those ghosts until your spirit is full, and left the rest of the urns, so you can repeat the process again whenever your spirit is low.
At stage 2, it's said you'll be damaged by 2% of your total HP + 1d4 every minute. So 2% of 460, about 9,2 damage + 1-4 = 10-15.

Ah yes, I never battled the Coven, so I don't know what it's like. I resolved the matter diplomatically. I did use the urns in Myrkul's Vault on occasion.
