No, not the franchise, but the age, will it end? And will the next game still be called Dragon Age? Maybe a new age will mark the end of the Solas plot, while also tying up all other plots we've seen so far. Would be interesting to see the results. Imagine the protagonist being the great-great-grandson of the Inquisitor/Warden/Hawke and how the decisions we made during the Dragon Age will shape the world of [insert cool and marketable title here] Age.

PS: Just throwing some thoughts at the wind.

Yes, the Dragon Age will end just like the Blessed Age before it and the Storm Age before that and the Steel Age before that...etc.

We still have over 50 years left in the Dragon Age, so I don't see us leaving it for the next game. It would also not be called Dragon Age if it did.

I read somewhere they wanted to make five games, though, just as all the other companies, they are greedy, DA still has potential but I wouldn't be surprised if they ultimately exploit it even after when they should let it die, even then, I think they still would call it Dragon Age, I mean, Metal Gear and Halo keep the name, even when there are not Metal Gears or Halos on every game.

Taking place in a new age would give us the chance to make new characters and new story ideas. The real question though it is what would the new age be called?

Yes it will end when there are no more dragons left...a new age is just on the horizon. But what age? :)

The age probably won't end unless we skip over 50 years to the future. We're in 9:44 or something around there after DA:I? The next age will be named by the chantry at the end of 9:99.

It would probably take them a long time to even get that far, seeing as we still aren't even halfway through the age (And that's with us starting thirty years in).  Even then, they could set a more self contained story further back in the age.

I can just imagine Leliana naming it that. With Vivienne probably the Magic Age. Not sure about Cassandra.

I might be wrong, but didn't it take until Oblivion and Skyrim for the titular Elder Scrolls themselves to finally make an appearance?

I remember that in Oblivion one appeared as something we stole for the Thieves Guild, so discounting that, it's amusing that it took until Skyrim, the fifth (official) game that an Elder Scroll itself actually factored into main plot and advanced it.

Nah, Vivienne has the same views on magic as ol' Meredith. She would never call it Magic Age.

Maybe... Elite Age or Noble Age.

For marketing purposes they probably would call it Dragon Age with a subtitle to mark the new age it was going into.

No on the great-great-grandson, thanks.

At any rate, I don't think it will be marketable to change the name of the franchise to something else. They could do any number of things. The final game taking place in the Dragon Age, Dragon Age: <insert one word name here>, might be the name of the next age, but the player doesn't realize that until the end when it actually happens. This is plausible because a significant event from the last couple of years heralds the name of the coming age, as it did with the appearance of dragons at the end of the Blessed Age.

They could have successive games with the subtitle of the name of the age: Dragon Age: New Age Name - Game Name. That seems a little long winded... it worked for Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening because that was simply an expansion.

I am not sure how we get to Andromeda in the next Mass Effect, but if it isn't using Mass Effect, then I guess Dragon Age would follow the same kind of pattern. We are supposedly starting from scratch, leaving all existing relationships and attachments behind for new adventures in MEA - so, I would think Solas, or whatever catastrophe finally destroys Thedas as we know it - the game will still probably be called Dragon Age.

I hope it isn't though. I think if they tie up these string of events, they should contain it within the DA, and start over with new characters/adventures in a new age. I would still play it  :D

I believe the intention for Dragon Age is for the series to be open-ended.  There is no specific number they plan to make.

Baldur's Gate 2 took place in and around Athkatla, not Baldur's Gate.  So I doubt they'll feel compelled to change the name of the series  ;)

Hmm let me see.... what would each NPC call the next age?

Varric - Story Age

Cassandra - Disciplined Age

Solas - Elven Age

Dorian - Black Age (referncing the south having a male divine next.)

Iron Bull - Horned Age if he leaves the Qun. Qunari Age if he doesn't.

Cole - Spirit Age

Blackwall - Honest Age

Sera - Shite Age

Vivienne - Noble Age

Josephine - Nice Age

Leliana - Spy Age

Cullen - Lyrium Age

Okay corny but, hey you never know, the next age might be pretty corny.
