I'd love to see a game mode where both the player and the ai deal the same amount of dps to each other. Only increasing the health and shields of the ai is kind of lazy. Skyrim did this and it was pretty stupid. Who has played Ranger Mode in Metro Last Light? In this mode both the player and the monters can kill each other easily but resources are scarce. I'd love to see more game modes like this in other games. Why not add another difficulty and copy Heaven or Hell mode in Devil May Cry, in this difficulty the demons and the player can one hit kill each other. I've never played that mode before but it sounds great.

Normal.

Hardcore.

Insanity.

Nightmare.

The game needs a setting higher than ME3's Insanity. And Inquisition is so easy it's laughable.

Please can we have frustratingly difficult combat?

Excellent idea. We will call it... Dark Souls.

That game isn't that hard either. Its restarting that gets you.

Edit: Sorry wrong game I was thinking of Bloodborne.

No, you're right. None of the Souls games are actually that difficult. They certainly don't coddle you nor do they have a difficulty slider for extra accessibility, but their difficulty is perfectly fair. Souls games don't punish lack of skill as much as they punish lack of thought.

Personally, I'd like to see that sort of difficulty be Mass Effect's baseline hard difficulty. Casual for those seeking story alone, normal for some reasonable push-back, hard for those willing to pay attention and pay the price for sloppy tactics, and anything beyond that for those who need their skills thoroughly strained.

Yes please. I'd love to see all the SP babbies deal with something that would be ball-crushingly hard to them.

Or they should do a realistic difficulty where if your shields go down, you will die from one shot.

Exactly, nightmare setting.

Imagine the missile battery mission if you actually had to use cover and there wasn't a room full of ammo you could duck into.

On higher difficulties we should be required to get tactical in order to win.

Use the geography to your advantage.

Flank the enemies.

etc

Yup "increased lethality" for everyone is a good idea - if implemented correctly.

(there is going to be a need to implement something to balance that and give you a chance against the never-missing cheating AI, a stealth system maybe?)

Except of course many of those people just wouldn't bother playing on that difficulty.

A difficulty that actually forces you to be tactical instead of just spamming powers harder and shooting more bullets would be great. Playing the Vanguard like most people play the Vanguard should be hard as **** on the higher difficulties, not easy.

They should start with removing aim assists and having "targeted" abilities act like homing missiles. Give the AI the same options that players have - cloaked snipers, shotgun-in-your-face vanguards. Should make things plenty lively.

What I'd mostly like is for Insanity to be much more challenging than it was in ME3.

Especially after playing the MP, the SP difficulty was a joke. Even before playing Gold/Plat, it was still incredibly easy.

In terms of difficulty ME2 was perfectly fine, while ME1 was too abusable at decent level making this tedious but easy, and ME3 was just plain easy. I don't want a ball crushing difficulty, if I want that I would just play Starcraft 2 Multiplayer...

Always in favor of increased difficulty modes.   Very few games made today have an actual challenging mode.  No need to tie achievements to them or anything because thats when people start to complain about them.    Just offer a mode above and beyond the hardest that is usually offered for those of us that just enjoy being challenged during the gameplay.

You love to see a one hit kill?

I suppose you also like to spend waiting 40 sec+ for the inevitable game reload? .... rinse and repeat?

Nah....... bad idea.... really bad idea...

It's not as if the MP is hard either.

I have played the Heaven and Hell mode. In that mode, you have three lives and the enemies are easy to kill. However you die with only one shot or one strike. There is more. There is also the Hell and Hell mode. You have three lives (you die with only one strike) and the enemies are hard to kill. I am planning to try that.
After playing ME3 so many times, now Insanity is too easy for me. I finish the run almost not dying once. I'm looking for more challenge and I play the Multiplayer because it's harder.
I would like more challenging options for SP too :)
ME2 wasn't bad for difficulty by the way. Its challenge level was good for me but one more level that would make the game harder could be nice.

I'm personally hoping there aren't difficulty achievements, but I'm probably wrong.

I agree with that. I don't play the harder difficulties so that translates to missing achievements. Kind of bothersome.

Dark Souls is hell the first time you play it. Once the game clicks, you will be fine.

There is a problem with your guys ideas and that is the idea that no matter how hard the difficulty is it will always get easy as you play it cause you will get use to the skills, power and ways to fight. DS 1,2,3 are all examples of this learning curve. It would be hard for a game to have a system were the AI learns and improves from your actions. Instead what we have similarity difficulty which is just the game making the enemas hit harder and take more damage. The ideal form a difficulty would be a system in which the game times your ability to complete tasks and your damage per sec on a target then scale the next encounter. In this way you will have to learn, make in ways to fight not relaying on the same plan over and over again IE vanguard charge in shotgun fire rise repeat. SO given the example I gave this system could then place enemies in your way with close combat weapons and high shield so your charge and shotgun does less damage. This would cause you to see that you cant just spam a skill over and over again. In terms of the player will when have to use other skills and weapon to better approach to battle.
