Will we be naming planets or will they be given a alpha-numerical designation like in Stargate or have all planets be named after the system's sun and have a number after like in the Andromeda TV show (ex. Seefra-1, Mobius-6)?
Will we get to name planets?

Wow, first post in, and there's already Uranus jokes. ![]()
As for actually naming planets in ME:A, while it would be cool, I highly doubt it. There hasn't really been that much level of creativity in ME before, I don't see why there would be outside of Character Creation.

There's money to be made here.
Hello travellers, and welcome to Planet Ryncol™, home of Ryncol's newest brewery facility - made possible by your magnificent land gains, and staffed by the indentured natives so expertly convinced to work for us at cost effective labour prices.
Planet Ryncol™ is the third planet in Binary Systems™, the newest colony system in the Fashion Wing of the Alliance News Network Cluster.

Cool in which ways? You wouldn't enjoy any ludic component in naming planets, because it will be (or hopefully for who's buying a Bioware game) an rpg centered on a story and its characters, not a galactic exploration game where the rpg part and narrative are secondary.
What I mean is: given the nature of the game, will you have any more fun if you name your planet X instead of having the default Y? If you think that is integrable with other interactions you're lying to yourself.

If you want to name planets, systems, and galaxies, try No Man's Sky.
I'm guessing the inhabitants of Andromeda will have already named everything, but we'll see!
That's what I was thinking either we would use the Andromedan names or whatever alternative names the Milky way species come up with. That being said I would love to name the planets. Maybe every single planet, but it would be cool to name a few yourself.

No. How many planets are their going to be? A dozen? Two dozen? A hundred? More?
There will be too many planets for that.
No. They'll be given assigned names. Whether they be "our" names or the galactic inhabitants names, but we won't get a say in them.

Indeed I certainly could probably could com,e up with a few. Although I have to admit I named one of my DAI elves I think it was my rogue elf Sobek after a planet I found in the ME trilogy mostly because I thought it sounded like a decent elven type name. But I doubt we'll be able to get any more creative other than creating our heroes just as before and those will be the only people we'll get to name

Why would those old guys ( those guys are extinct anyway ) inhabited my planet this is a ME universe right. So i want aliens and humans inhabited my planet and while were at it i want a holodeck in my house so i can play ME and Dragon Age
And that people would say let's visit Patricia on her home planet Patricia and let's play ME or Dragon Age together. It would be cool though to live in that kind of Universe.

Ignoring the fact that "guys" are not extinct (at least last I checked), they are patricians. Inhabitants of Earth are Earthlings, while inhabitants of Patricia would be Patricians. It's a play on words. Eh? EH?

That's not what i meant by that by saying that guys are extinct i meant those guys in those clothes. To me they look like ancient Greek or ancient Romans and i had no idea there were actually ancient Patricians back then. I need to get some more history lessons
.
edit. and yes you are right the inhabitants of Patricia should be called Patricians that also has a nice ring to it.

I don't see this happening. We didn't get the option in the previous games, so we probably won't get it in MEA either.

Creativity? Letting us name planets would rather indicate a lack thereof on the writers' side. Unless they set a default and allow us to change it. In any case, I'd go with a coded designation. There are simply too many planets to bother with naming them all, and in any case it would feel wrong to name them using the cultural background of a civilization 2.5 million light-years away.
I propose a designation of stars like XX.X-YY.Y-ZZZZZ-N where XX is the angle from the galactic plane centered at the central black hole, akin to latitude; YY is the angle from a line between the central black holes of Andromeda and the Milky Way vertically projected onto the galactic plane, akin to longitude; ZZZZZ is the distance in ly from the central black hole, and N is the index of the star in the system (can be more than 1 in the case of binaries and trinaries) ordered by mass. The designation of planets uses Roman numerals in a sequence, by distance from the star, and moons are designated with arabic numerals. Globular clusters use their own designation systems.

But we weren't exploring planets in previous games, the planets had already been surveyed and colonized.

@OP: I wouldn't want to name planets on the fly. I think they should be given their own designations like in the previous games. Unless such a feature would serve a tangible purpose, I see no point.
